What do fluent readers do?

Fluent readers:

• read accurately

• know what to do if they need assistance with a word they do not recognise

• read the text as it would be spoken, paying attention to:

–punctuation

–speed –tone

–phrasing

–emphasis for the most impor tant words

–making the text sound like oral language.

• under stand and can talk about what they have read.
