The construction industry had been waiting for a date for an event that had been postponed because to the Covid-19 outbreak, and that date has now been selected. We're talking about Excon, the most important event in the industry. The 11th edition of EXCON, South Asia's largest construction equipment and construction technology trade show, will be held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) from May 17 to 21. In keeping with the industry's progress, the fair has developed to become one of the key global events. One of the significant things that will gain more attention this year is the alignment of its topic – "Building India for a New World - Competitiveness, Growth, Sustainability, and Technology." The concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat and various aspects of it would be reflected at the Excon 2022. The Indian infrastructure industry is flourishing, and events like Excon keep the industry linked and demonstrate its capabilities to the rest of the world. The infrastructure business is clearly on the mend following the Covid-19 epidemic, and India's government is boosting growth across sectors. Furthermore, India is the world's third-largest market for construction equipment, with a number of global companies producing and selling their products there. The event provides a complete picture of the industry to these major and small businesses in one location. We attempted to cover issues linked to the event in this edition of Construction Mirror, such as construction equipment, concrete batching plants, road and highways, tyres, and more.

WHAT IS MB CRUSHER DOING ON AN ISLAND? Withstand material shortage by using your heavy equipment
Press Release
Type in ‘’island’’ on a search engine and a dreamy image of a piece of land surrounded by clear blue water will appear. Those pictures immediately make you feel at ease - and secretly a little bit envious- they might even prompt you to plan your next vacation. In the dictionary, an island is also defined as isolated and detached. Undeniably, living on an island can be blissful but certainly for those companies in charge of construction and development being remote represent a series of difficulties that have been more accentuated by the shortage of materials that is happening all over right now. From the world’s biggest island of Greenland to the tiniest inhabited one located off Alexandra Bay in the state of New York - the Just Room Enough Island - planning development jobs can be stressful, material transportation is laborious and not only from the mainland to the Isla itself but very often the internal roads are small or inexistent. Everywhere in the world, to prosper an area, roads must be built. Not an easy task. to build them materials are needed, and they are hard to get at the moment.
It is in these difficult situations where you find MB Crushers units to the aid.
Excavators are the main machines used to build roads. They are the only ones that can travel even where there are no roads at all. Simply attaching an MB Crusher bucket to any brand of the excavator will transform it into a mobile jaw crusher. All the rocks laying around are quickly reduced and reused to build the missing roads. An arduous job with MB Crusher units became effortless and connecting roads are created linking remote areas to society without the need to outsource the materials for the job. CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

The unspoilt island of Meganissi in Greece
‘’If you build it, they will come’’ the quote from Field of dreams is a mantra for holiday destinations like the Greek islands, where there is a constant need to build tourists accommodation. In Meganissi, a small island with a population of around 1000 people to build villas they used an MB Crusher unit. The BF90.3 mounted on their Caterpillar 329E is crushing sea rocks to create the aggregate needed for the construction, meaning they did not need to bring in further machines or materials by sea from the larger island of Lefkada, again the jaw crusher gave independence and overcome the shortage of materials by transforming local raw material into a usable product.
The Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden
There are approximately 670,000 islands in the world. Some of them belong to Antarctica and others are unclaimed territories but Sweden itself owns 221,800 of them. Although the majority are inhabited and difficult to connect to terrestrial infrastructure, the capital of Stockholm is built across a 14-island archipelago. In one of those islands, a Case TR340 skid steer has become a mobile jaw crusher after installing an MB-L140.
A demolition in Puerto Rico, Caribbean islands
Being versatile is another reason why MB Crusher units are largely used as not only natural materials can be processed to be reused, but also demolition debris. As in Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean, the old Costa Salud Aguada hospital was dismantled and the crushed down concrete will be reused as the foundation for the new Health Prevention Center building. What can we take on board from all of these stories? That it can be done, and it can be easier. A key to development is a good strategy and an MB Crusher for your carrier. Current coal shortages are only temporary, according to the CEO of a mining equipment manufacturer
The present coal shortages are going to be short term with the supply position beginning to ease by July, the head of a heavy engineering manufacturer has said. “It’s a very temporary thing. The coal shortage situation has arisen from the fact that economic growth has gained good traction after passing through a difficult phase for a couple of years due largely to the Covid-19 pandemic,” chairman, Gainwell Engineering, Sunil Chaturvedi told Business Today on Wednesday. “The summer season is in any case a difficult for India as this is when the energy requirement peaks. Hopefully, in two months we should see a solution. This is a temporary thing and is not going to be a CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

long-term problem,” he further asserted. Chaturvedi, a former Bharat Forge executive director who has also served as a bureaucrat, said that the country must continue to dedicatedly work towards ramping up domestic coal production to stabilise its energy security. “Any time that Indian starts to grow at 7-8 per cent, energy requirement also goes up by 10-12 per cent. Two years of muted demand for energy followed by a very robust upsurge has caused this shortage. However, one cannot ignore the fact that India is still dependent 15-20 per cent on imported coal,” observed Chaturvedi. CM www.constructionmirror.com

Stainless steel critical for Ethanol blended motor fuel in India Stainless steel is critical for augmenting Ethanol supply chain to meet Government’s plan of blending 20% Ethanol with motor fuel
Press Release
Karan Pahuja, President, Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA)
The Government of India has announced the National Policy on Biofuels, under which ethanol blending of petrol has already reached 10%, and is planned to go up to 20% by 2025. Blending locally produced ethanol with petrol will help India strengthen its energy security. It will enable local enterprises and farmers to participate in the energy economy and reduce vehicular emissions. This national goal can be met by augmenting supply chain for blending ethanol, where stainless steel has a significant role. According to the Niti Ayog report [1] 'Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India by 2020-25’ released in June 2021, phased rollout of 20% of ethanol blending by 2025 is very much possible. The report says "Most of the petroleum products are used in transportation. Hence, a successful E20 program can save the country US $4 billion per annum, i.e., Rs. 30,000 cr.” Besides, immense benefits can accrue to the country in terms of energy security, lower carbon emissions, better air quality, self-reliance, use of damaged food grains, increasing farmers' income, employment generation, and greater investment opportunities, According to Niti Aayog, initially, pan-India ethanol production will be raised from the current ~700 crore litres to 1500 crore litres to make 20% target feasible. Ethanol’s price is around Rs. 50-60 per litre and therefore, its blending with petrol is highly cost effective. The differential price policy for ethanol blended petrol announced by Finance Minister in the Budget, making it cheaper by Rs. 2/Litre, will further improve its economics. However, oil marketing companies can face challenges in terms of additional storage tanks for ethanol at refineries/terminals/depots and need for ethanol compliant dispensing units. Thus, the right casing material needs to be considered for its safe storage, supply and transportation. [2]. In addition, it is crucial to note that ethanol cannot be stored in an average container because it causes corrosion. Although 100% pure ethanol is not corrosive to most metals, its impurities such

as oxygen that cause high level of corrosivity. Some of the contaminants like water, organic acids and chlorides can cause high level of corrosion in ordinary steels and disrupt operations of ethanol supply chain. There are two methods that can be used to store ethanol: Removing any oxygen content and other impurities in the ethanol sample, which is an expensive process [3], or storing it in a non-corrosive material which is more cost-effective. Stainless steel is a corrosion resistant material which makes it the ideal choice for Ethanol production and distribution systems worldwide. With stainless steel, pipes can often be made with a lighter wall thickness which makes it easier to distribute. In addition, stainless steel is easy to maintain which reduces costs implied with storage: no paint or other coatings on internal or external surfaces need to be maintained, surfaces remain smooth due to non-corrosion, has a longer life and allows for easier cleaning and disinfection and lower pumping costs. Therefore, stainless steel is the material of choice in Ethanol production and distribution systems worldwide Secondly, ethanol is a highly flammable material and stainless steel is fire-resistant. Tanks containing ethanol are required to be fire resistant, and stainless steel will prevent the spreading of flames in the case of a standard structural conflagration. Apart from the general benefits of using stainless steel, the successful impact really depends on the type of project it is used for. For example, tanks for food-grade ethanol are constructed using type 304(L) of stainless steel whereas very large tanks with heavy plates would use a high strength lean-duplex grade such as S32101 [2]. Type 304(L) is usually used in the more alkaline operating media of biodiesel processes, such as piping and tubing systems. Type 316(L) is used in places where the acid content is greater and the temperature is more extreme. To summarize, the type of Stainless Steel normally www.constructionmirror.com
required for Ethanol Projects is generally within grades of 304/316 and used in shell material for distillation columns, shell material for heat exchangers, fermenters and other process tanks, storage tanks, pipes and fittings, plates, tubes for heat exchangers, dryer and other equipment and Ethanol tankers. A typical stainless-steel requirement for a 500 kilo litres per day Ethanol plant is about 1300 tons. In line with the national priorities, stainless steel industry has geared up to meet this demand, with supplies expected to double this year.
What’s the technical opinion of stainless steel as the ideal material choice for ethanol?
Using the wrong container for ethanol has been a recurring concern at a global scale since the early 1990s: Research carried out by the American Petroleum Institute (API) has shown that Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of steel in fuel ethanol environment is a subject matter where awareness of the issue is growing dynamically as a result of documentation of experiences and research works in progress [4]. The conversation around the ideal container for ethanol still continues today: In a recent webinar conducted by ISSDA on ‘Stainless Steel for building Ethanol supply Chain’ in association with Nickel Institute, the expert speakers pointed out that stainless steel is in fact used extensively for Ethanol sector in North America and Brazil, who are the world leaders in blending Ethanol in motor fuel. (The Nickle Institute, an international non-profit industry association was established for the purpose of
offering guidance and neutral technological advice regarding stainless steel applications). International Energy Agency (IEA) has said that India is set to overtake China to become third largest Ethanol consumer by 2026, next only to Brazil and USA. The Government has plan to even go beyond E20 fuel and working with automakers to develop flexi fuel engines which can use a range of fuel blends going up to 100% Ethanol, like in Brazil. In any case, whether the auto industry in India can successfully shift from petroleum to flexi fuels will depend entirely on what steps are taken to build and augment the ethanol supply chain down the line to ensure wider availability. In this context, Stainless Steel is considered critical for the ethanol eco-system for blending in motor fuel across the entire supply chain. It is estimated that about 1,00,000 tons of high-grade stainless steel will be required to augment ethanol capacity for achieving national goal of 20% blending. The potential is even higher when flexi fuel engines are introduced. Indian stainless-steel producers have already stepped-up supplies to OEMs like Praj Industries, Excel Engineering, Alpha Level etc.to meet this national objective. Indian stainless-steel producers are capable and committed to meet the growing requirement of ethanol industry. However, Government policy support in terms of ensuring a level playing field with respect to dumped and subsidised import of stainless steel is also crucial to enable further investment, so that such critical requirements are met by domestically produced stainless steel only. The government intends to build 18,000 km of highway in FY23, at a rate of 50 km/day The road transport and highways ministry aims to construct a record 18,000 km of highways in 2022-23 at a pace of 50 km per day, said minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday. The FY23 target is 33 per cent higher than that last fiscal. The target is ambitious as the ministry in 2021-22 set a 40-km per day construction goal, but later revised it to 32 km per day at 12000 km for the full fiscal. “This is a target… I’m not giving a guarantee that we will achieve it. But targets are always high, and it will push us to try and meet them,” said Gadkari at an event. The government also plans to award construction contracts of 18000 km in FY23, he added. Sandwiched between two waves of Covid-19
www.constructionmirror.com
and monsoon rains, the government, through its implementing agencies, reportedly constructed 10,457 km of national highways in 2021-22, which was a 24 per cent decrease from the previous fiscal. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget speech, had said that the government will add 25,000 km to the national highways network. Later, road transport and highways secretary Giridhar Aramane clarified that it contains both new construction, widening works, and conversion of state highways into national highways. While India’s highway construction trajectory has largely been on the upside, sector experts have previously expressed concern that 50 km per day construction could prove a tall order, even with the government’s infrastructure push. Gainwell Engineering partners with World Coal Association to promote sustainable coal mining in India •
Press Release
•
Calls for Clean Tech in mining to meet the energy security of the country welcoming India’s commitment to ‘Net Zero by 2070’ Gainwell aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported equipment for underground mining from their manufacturing facility at Panagarh in West Bengal
Gainwell Engineering, the manufacturing venture of Gainwell Commosales Private Limited (formerly Tractors India Private Limited), has partnered with World Coal Association to promote sustainable coal mining in India. With this Gainwell becomes only the second organisation in India to have partnered with World Coal Association. According to the Economic Survey 2021-22, Coal demand in India is projected in the range of 1.3-1.5 billion tonnes by 2030, an increase of 63% from current demand. The partnership is also aimed at reducing India's dependency on import of coal mining equipment and instead, manufacture state of the art equipment locally to augment domestic production of coal in a sustainable manner. This will also help India reduce coal import bill and enable it to meet its energy security. Coming from the stable of Gainwell Commosales which has a rich legacy of supporting infrastructural progress in India for nearly eight decades and the proud partner of Caterpillar Construction, Mining and Power Solutions in India, Gainwell Engineering has forayed into Coal Mining Equipment Manufacturing and is setting up a plant at Panagarh, West Bengal. With a philosophy of supporting India’s true infrastructural growth, Gainwell Engineering aims to end India’s dependence on imported equipment for underground mining, and leave a sustainable impact on the environment with the use of clean technology.

Coal still remains the largest source of energy in the world and sustainable coal mining in India is the need of the hour. Commenting on the association, Ms. Michelle Manook, CEO, World Coal Association said “It is critical that countries like India and companies like Gainwell Engineering are leading the discussion on coal’s sustainable journey. We welcome the Gainwell Engineering management team who understand that as a cohesive coal value chain across multiple jurisdictions (including Australia, China, Russia, South Africa, United States), we will have the best chance to deliver on our global community’s collective economic development and environmental goals. For countries such as India, these ambitions are not mutually exclusive.” Welcoming the WCA membership, Mr. Sunil Chaturvedi, Chairman, Gainwell Engineering said “While concerns over climate change and air pollution have highlighted the need to pursue a more sustainable path forward, no discussion of global climate change can ignore India, and no discussion of India’s energy future can ignore coal. Coal remains the mainstay of energy security for India, but the country so far was entirely dependent on imported underground mining machinery for expanding its underground mining operations, especially coal. With our state-ofthe-art manufacturing facility at Panagarh in West Bengal rapidly coming up, Gainwell Engineering will help India and other global geographies, not only mine their underground mineral resources far www.constructionmirror.com

directly and/or indirectly to support the evolution of coal through clean technologies. We are all part of the solution.”
World Coal Association endorses Responsible Coal Principles under the climate change situation which are grounded by the principles of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Gainwell Engineering joining WCA gives impetus to India’s coal leadership.
Gainwell Engineering and World Coal Association believes, India has already made a positive impact in resetting the climate change agenda and it has the capacity to truly revolutionise coal’s future.
The confluence of recent global energy events have ushered in a “new reality” that places issues of supply security and affordability back in the spotlight. •
According to the data released by the Ministry of Power, Coal contributes to 51.6% of installed generation capacity in India’s energy mix; while hydropower, solar, wind, etc. contribute 38.5%.
Coal Insights:
The challenge and opportunity for ‘Indian Coal’ and the global coal value chain resides in embracing and guiding the world’s community to the numbers and the science. This education is based on communicating the irrefutable coal facts, including: •
Coal remains essential to electricity supply in more than 80 countries.
•
Coal will play a role in mitigating the worst effects of poverty for the 800 million people who still have no access to heat, light, fuel for cooking, transportation, and other essential services as a basic human right.
•
Coal remains the building block to economic success and is critical to the production of 90% of the world’s cement2, 70% of global steel34, and more than 60% of the energy used to make aluminium.
•
Climate Change and Air Pollution have been the areas of concern for many years now. Indian Govt. has announced an investment plan of $55Billion in in clean coal over the coming decade, putting India at the forefront of the Coal industry at large.
Steel, cement, and aluminium are intrinsic to the construction of renewables infrastructure. Every wind turbine that is constructed requires 170 tonnes of coking coal!
•
Ms. Manook said “WCA applauds India’s position towards the issue of phasing down of unabated coal as against phasing-out coal. Coal is still world’s largest source of energy. Recent and current events reconfirm that coal is still needed and not in decline. Coal is not disappearing; it is simply transitioning to a more sustainable model. Every member of the coal value chain in every country can do something
The Paris Agreement was drafted with the understanding that the international community needed to move away from prescribed pathways and recognise the importance of respecting sovereign choices and timeframes.
•
There is no 100% credible renewables scenario (IPCC).
•
It will be 138% more expensive to achieve Paris without CCS/CCUS (IEA). CM
•
•
Also, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Coal is still the world’s largest, single source of electricity, powering 39% of the global electricity mix. In 2021, as per IEA, coal generation reached an all-time high at over 10 000 terawatt-hours (TWh). In industrial processes, coal demand rose 6% reaching close to the record levels of 2013 and 2014.

Construction Equipment - Preventive Maintenance Benefits And Checklists In the construction sector, where business objectives are rigorously time and margin oriented, modern construction equipment is critical. Modern construction equipment is extremely fast and dependable, and it has high-quality control systems built into it as it has progressed through time. The proper use of this equipment contributes to the project's economics, quality, safety, speed, and timeliness. It optimises the use of material, manpower, money, and the scarcity of competent and efficient labour while also keeping a close eye on the quality controls in place. One of your most valuable assets is your construction equipment. Downtime and maintenance expenses can have an impact on project deadlines and earnings when something goes wrong with it. These are just a few of the reasons why it's critical

to follow the manufacturer's instructions for correct usage, conduct pre and post-operation inspections, and be proactive about preventative maintenance. It's also crucial to be aware of frequent warning indications that your heavy equipment is being overworked. Excessive wear and tear might occur if your machines are overworked. It has the potential to reduce power and efficiency while also causing harm. This reduces productivity, needs additional maintenance and repairs, necessitates more frequent part replacements, and raises costs and profits in various ways. Prevention of Construction Equipment from Hot Weather Warm to scorching weather may take an extra toll on construction machinery in various parts of India over the summer and beyond. necessitates extra safeguards and constant attention to maintenance activities that keep heavy equipment running smoothly in the heat. Naturally, the value of preventative maintenance cannot be emphasised. It's critical for keeping your fleet running at maximum capacity, efficiency, and safety, as well as avoiding costly downtime, repairs, and part replacements. It also helps your machines last longer. This entails specialised maintenance to keep big machinery running smoothly in the heat. •
As much as possible, keep your equipment out of direct sunlight.

Remove Any Debris or Dirt: Remove any dirt, mud, debris, and materials from around the radiator and other engine parts, as well as from the engine compartment; all engine parts must be able to move, breathe, and cool correctly, but any foreign matter might obstruct this.
Inspect the Exterior: Make sure there are no apparent leaks or pools of fluid under the machine; if there are, the cause must be located and the leak fixed. Inspect the tyres, rims, and undercarriage for dirt or debris collection, excessive wear, and any obvious damage; faults in these areas can pose major safety concerns and reduce the machine's performance.
Check Warning Lights: Warning lights are an important warning symbol, which should come as no surprise. The equipment's sensors have discovered a problem, and we're alerting you about it. Ignoring (or concealing with electrical tape) bright warning light will not solve the situation. The equipment is likely being

thorough heavy equipment inspections both before and after operations. These checks are essential for worker safety near machinery and are an important component of preventative maintenance. Before and after getting into any taxi, operators should glance at and for the items listed below. Of course, some heavy equipment has unique parts, functionality, or other variables that demand specialist inspection regions; for specific instructions and suggestions, see the machine's operator's manual.

overworked and underserviced if the indication lights come on more frequently than normal. And it's even worse if they go out without the issue being resolved; it signifies the light has most likely burned out due to being on for too long or too frequently. Malfunctions: This is one of the more visible symptoms that your heavy equipment is being overworked. Machines should not break down if they are utilised properly and repaired on a regular basis. Downtime is a tremendous annoyance that may throw a project's timeline off, and it's also expensive. While machine failure is an inherent component of the industry, it is typically avoided. If it's occurring to one or more of your computers on a regular basis, you're probably overworking them by leaving them in use for too long, overextending their capabilities, or failing to do simple maintenance. Check Fluid Levels: Fluid management must be carefully monitored to ensure the longevity and productivity of your equipment. If engine or transmission oils, hydraulic fluids, coolants, or other fluids are consistently low, even when checked and replaced on a regular basis, the equipment is most likely overworked. It's also possible that there's a leak someplace. If you can't see it on the outside of the machine, the problem might be an interior seal that has cracked. Fluids frequently leak into other components of the engine or hydraulic system as a result of this. Check Exhaust Colour: The exhaust of an automobile or construction equipment might reveal crucial information about its condition. Exhaust should be colourless in most cases (though it's typical for it to seem somewhat yellowish at first). If the exhaust from a piece of heavy equipment becomes visible, it's an indication that you're overworking it and that something is wrong with it. Here's some background on the various exhaust colours and what they mean.

Check Unusual Sounds: Other reliable warning indications that your heavy machinery is overworked include auditory. Operators and other on-site employees should be familiar with the typical noises of the heavy equipment they use. They should also be on the lookout for new or changing noises, since this is a significant indicator that something isn't quite right. It's time for a machine inspection if you hear rattling, clanking, hissing, or notable variations in the loudness or pitch of typical sounds, among other noises.
Machine Prevention Checklist Checklists must be comprehensive, including every critical and non-critical maintenance point specific to a certain piece of equipment. They detail what should be done and when it should be done. They also remind maintainers to anticipate problems so that they may take preventative action before something goes wrong. A heavy machinery maintenance checklist could include the following tasks: Batteries: Batteries are infamous for losing charge or dying unexpectedly. A battery's age, voltage retention, and acid ratio should all be included in a checklist. The terminal and cable conditions are also crucial. Belts: Compressors, alternators, and pumps are all driven by belts in most construction equipment. An equipment list should include belt age, fraying, slackness, and discolouration. Body: Using a checklist, inspect and note the general state of your body. Take note of any damage, corrosion, looseness, or paint flaws. Brakes: The condition of your brakes should be towards the top of your checklist. The condition of the pads and shoes, as well as the health of the drums and discs, are all important considerations. Fluid levels, pressures, and cable conditions are all important. Coolants: Radiator and gearbox coolants reveal a lot about the condition of the equipment. www.constructionmirror.com

Aside from acceptable levels and typical hues, coolants should be analysed on a regular basis to look for interior issues that aren't visible to the naked eye.
C o n s t r u c t i o n E q u i pm e n t
Electricals: Checkpoints for electrical components extend beyond battery conditions. Voltage and amperage testing, cable inspection, and fuse conditions should all be included in checklists. Exhaust System: Exhaust systems reveal a lot about the performance of an engine. Smoke is another potential sign, as is unusual sound. Clamps and hangers, for example, should have their own checklist boxes. Filters: There must be a check-off for each filter on the equipment. This contains filters for oil, gasoline, air, and hydraulic fluid. Cabin filters are another possibility. Filters were cleaned or changed, for example, according to the checklist. Fluids: Every regular service inspection must include a check of the machinery fluids. Engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, and engine coolant fluid analysis is similar to a blood test for people. They show what's going on within the machinery. Injectors: Injectors are used to provide fuel to diesel engines. Injectors that are clogged or malfunctioning have an influence on power and efficiency. Cleaning or replacing injectors should be on any equipment maintenance checklist. Lubricants: Greasing and lubrication are, of course, listed on a check sheet. Important moving regions, such as joints and sleeves, should also be included on the list. Tires: If the equipment is on wheels, it must be included in the checklist. Tire wear, tread depth, and pressure should all be recorded. Another point to add to the list is balance. Tracks: On a maintenance checklist, tracked equipment demands specific attention. Treads, cleats, and idlers should all have their boxes, as well as be in good working order.
Benefits of Preventive Maintenance CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
50
May 2022
Preventive maintenance is more resilient than routine maintenance because it considers the larger picture. To minimise unexpected breakdowns, service personnel seek for faults early on and undertake maintenance while the equipment is still operational. Preventive maintenance can be done on a regular basis (planned inspections) or dependent on consumption (every 10,000 km). As you can see, preventive maintenance is more expensive than routine maintenance, which is why it's critical to determine which equipment to maintain routinely and which might benefit from preventative maintenance strategically. Longevity: Construction equipment and machinery endure longer when normal and preventative maintenance is performed. There's no denying that well-maintained machines and various construction equipment components last longer than those that aren't. Servicing machines on a regular basis enhances their life and hence their availability. When difficulties are avoided, equipment is always accessible when it is needed. Availability: Any heavy machinery that breaks down unexpectedly is out of commission. This not only makes them unprofitable due to unavailability, but it also makes it costly to remove them from service and undertake unanticipated repairs. When a machine is not accessible for use, the equipment operator frequently sits idle. This results in increased costs due to human and equipment downtime. Expenses: Breakdowns aren't something you prepare for. They aren't even budgeted costs. Budgets are used by every productive heavy equipment firm. Routine and preventative maintenance work is planned and budgeted for. Sudden breakdowns frequently exceed budgetary limits. Repair expenditures, when combined with lost income due to equipment downtime, add up to costly charges that might have been avoided with periodic maintenance. www.constructionmirror.com
Safety: Ones that are reliable are also safe machines. Keeping all construction equipment in good working order and repairing it on a regular basis greatly improves its safety. Workers may be put in risk if a component fails unexpectedly, and the environment may also be harmed. Keeping construction equipment safe is part of a preventive maintenance program.
reliable. Operators are demoralised by poorly maintained equipment, and they rapidly acquire a lack of confidence, which leads to business disdain. As a result, there is a lack of safe operation or a failure to disclose possible issues. Routine maintenance might help you avoid poor self-esteem. Litigation: Accidents sometimes happen, no matter how well-maintained construction equipment is. When they do, authorities and inquiries into the reason are almost always involved. If the disaster was caused by carelessness owing to inadequate maintenance, www.constructionmirror.com
Why Preventive and Routine Maintenance is Important? Construction equipment lifetime and availability are extended and ensured by a well-established programme combining routine and preventative maintenance activities. In addition to lowering overall business expenditures, a successful preventative maintenance programme boosts worker confidence and enhances safety. It also reduces the risk of lawsuits if something goes
wrong. Preparing a normal and preventative maintenance schedule isn't difficult at all. It's all about a construction company's dedication to inventory management and taking proactive actions to do so. A regular and preventive maintenance programme simply lays out a predetermined schedule and develops procedures for ensuring that it is followed.
w w w. c o n s t r u c t i o n m i r r o r. c o m
Confidence: Machine operators, like construction equipment, are precious assets. Operators, on the other hand, are human beings with emotional needs. One of them is knowing that the equipment they're working with is safe and
the equipment owner would be held liable. It may result in legal action. The risk of costly lawsuit is considerably reduced if there is a clear trail of regular and preventative maintenance.
Three essential components are covered by routine and preventative maintenance programmes. The first step is to schedule normal maintenance jobs such as lubrication and oil or filter changes. Fluid analysis, which is one 51

of the most crucial duties in any equipment service, is also included. Visual inspections, on the other hand, are critical. They go beyond normal maintenance and make it proactive. The third element is a proactive part replacement. Mechanics discover parts that are showing signs of wear or are nearing the end of their expected life. Before they cause difficulties, they're replaced. Milestones and intervals need to be met on a regular basis. Seasonal fluctuations, working situations, and equipment operating duration are all important variables to consider. The finest guidance is derived from a mix of the machinery owner's handbook and on-site operators' and maintainers' expertise.
Know the Types of Equipment Failure? Unexpected Equipment Failure: This occurs when heavy equipment fails abruptly and unexpectedly, and it is the most dangerous of all equipment failures. In most cases, there is no contingency plan in place for equipment downtime, and construction equipment must be removed from operation until it can be repaired. Repairs for sudden failures are the most expensive of all failure kinds, due to unanticipated costs such as mechanic fees and ordering components. These breakdowns normally occur as a result of a component wearing down, and they may be avoided by performing periodic and preventative maintenance checks. Failure that Comes and Goes: This isn't a complete failure, but rather a series of little

faults that new operators may overlook. Sputtering or momentary halting are common symptoms. If the operator is skilled, he or she will detect the intermittent failure and take action to resolve it. Intermittent failures, if ignored, might gradually lead to dramatic breakdowns. Routine and preventative maintenance can also help prevent intermittent failure. Gradual Failure: Gradual failure occurs over time and is typically caused by normal wear and tear on the equipment. The good news is that progressive breakdowns take time to develop and may be readily prevented with frequent maintenance. Gradual failure, if ignored, can eventually lead to intermittent failure. Failure Caused by Thermal Issues: Changes in temperature, such as excessive heat or cold, drive construction equipment to its limits, resulting in a sudden stress failure. Thermally caused failures can be avoided by understanding the equipment's temperature limitations and anticipating temperature fluctuations. Failure Caused by Mechanical Forces: Mechanically induced failure is just what it sounds like—failure caused by a component breaking or failing in construction equipment. Lack of lubrication, equipment misuse, overexertion, or crashes are the most common causes. Routine and preventative maintenance, as well as ensuring that parts are lubricated, fasteners are tightened, and moving parts are properly aligned, can help prevent mechanically caused failures. CM

Q. How choosing the right lubricant is essential Q. What products in ExxonMobil’s portfolio can
to improve construction equipment reliability and productivity and reduce breakdowns?
Q. How can premium lubricants lower heavy equipment costs and improve performance?
With more focus on durability, fuel efficiency and dual function, the quality of lubricants matter the most when it comes to ensuring seamless and unhindered equipment performance in the construction industry. Lubricants should be regarded as an integral part of the component of machines to lower unwanted maintenance costs and significantly improve performance. Premium lubricants are manufactured to be much more robust and able to hold their characteristics under extreme conditions – maintaining engine health for a longer period. With less oil drain interval, better performance of machines can be achieved with fewer gallons burned each day. Most premium lubricants are designed exclusively for a specific type of equipment to last longer and yield improved productivity. Premium lubricants are designed to optimize friction and help reduce fuel consumption. Even a small improvement in each system will make a huge difference in overall machine efficiency and opting for a premium lubricant can add to overall profitability. www.constructionmirror.com
With 150 years of formulating advanced lubrication solutions, Mobil™ Lubricants has earnt its reputation as a leading industrial provider. Mobil’s diesel engine oils under the Mobil Delvac MX™ ESP 15W-40 are formulated with a mixed detergent system that delivers cutting-edge performance in both new and older engines. Along with assuring excellent control of oil thickening due to soot build-up and outstanding TBN retention for long drain intervals, the product provides outstanding resistance to oil consumption, oxidation, corrosive and abrasive wear, and high-temperature deposits. Additionally, the Mobil Delvac 1™ ESP 5W-40 is an advanced synthetic heavy-duty diesel engine oil that helps extend engine life while providing long drain capability and potential fuel economy for modern and latest diesel engine technologies operating in severe applications. ExxonMobil had achieved a breakthrough with its Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ Series of premium hydraulic oils. The products exhibit outstanding oxidation and thermal stability – allowing long oil life and reduced deposit formation in harsh conditions, and with severe hydraulic systems using high pressure, high output pumps. Similarly, Mobil’s greases have also shown proven results in improving regreasing intervals, enhancing equipment life and providing exceptional protection even in extreme conditions. For instance, the Mobilgrease XHP™ 462 Moly is fortified with 3% molybdenum disulphide and is particularly recommended for applications such as bucket pins and fifth wheels, where sliding friction and oscillating motion can lead to rupturing of the oil film, resulting in metal-to-metal contact.

Lubricants play a vital role, especially in the construction and mining segments, where equipment needs to perform under severe conditions – from heavy loads and extreme temperatures to excessive wear and dirt along with water contamination. Following these challenges, machine breakdown is possible and can lead to long unplanned downtime and unexpected costs. With engine oils, some key considerations are viscosity grade and performance attributes. For construction equipment working in warmer conditions, a heavier grade oil may be more suitable. These oils are often better suited for higher operating temperatures by ensuring adequate lubricant flow and subsequent protection of critical engine components. Another consideration is the lubricants’ ability to resist thermal and oxidative breakdown, especially when exposed to oxygen and certain metals or compounds at high temperatures. Thus, choosing the right lubricant is essential to improve reliability, boost productivity and reduce the frequency of breakdowns.

. How SANY is going to participate in EXCON-2022, is there any product launch from your side? 59
May 2022
Yes we are launching new products in all the verticals that we operate, all our upcoming products will see an improvement in terms of technological upgrade as per market needs. However, our adherence to stringent quality methods will continue to remain the same.
Q. What positive impact will the Budget 2022-23 have on the infra industry?
The major highlight of the announcements made in the budget for us is the Big infra spending boost of Rs. 7.5 Lac Crores in financial year 2022 - 23. Provision for Rs. 1 lac crores - 50-year interest free loans to state government over and above the current limit will surely put more money in the hands of the state government to increase spending on infrastructure development. Green bonds announced in the budget session also look very promising in order to reduce the carbon intensity of our economy. Increasing impetus given on the 7 engines of growth in the Pradhan Mantri Gaati Shakti program shows the government’s commitment towards rapid 360-degree growth in the overall infrastructure sector. Some key measures announced in the budget are a definitive step towards this goal. Expanding highways by 25000KMS, will prove to be a major growth booster for our economy. Similarly, Multi modal logistics facilities were previously not given the due attention it needed but thankfully this year’s budget seems to have changed this trend with the announcement of construction of 100 cargo terminals in the next 3 years.
Q. What will be the industry's outlook
for coming years?
Moving ahead, we shall increase our focus on the road, mining and port sectors in addition to our current strongholds. These sectors are the core drives of the Indian economy which contribute to the country’s GDP. Government's focus on world class infrastructure has fuelled the growth of the road development sector in India. We are also witnessing a remarkable growth in the mining sector especially after the introduction of mining reforms. This has certainly spurred the demands for mining equipment in the CE industry. Similarly, the increasing seaborne trade across the globe is prominently driving the demand for the port equipment market in India. CM

Q. How has TATA HITACHI grown over the years and what a milestone has it achieved? Which are the specialist segments that TATA HITACHI is successfully focused on?
Q. As quality comes with a price, how do you balance quality with affordability?
Tata Hitachi hydraulic excavators are renowned for their superior hydraulics, leading to high operational speeds and low fuel consumption. In addition, their easy maintainability, longer change intervals for consumables and high resale value lead to phenomenally high returns on investment for the customer. We have been able to further enhance productivity by predictive and preventive maintenance through use of cutting-edge telematics solutions. We have also kept abreast of advanced engine technologies as they developed from mechanical to electronic engines, and from naturally aspirated to turbo charged engines to CRDI technology today. We are also currently investing in alternate fuels. Hydraulic excavators are increasingly being used for applications that expand its capabilities beyond just use of buckets for digging and loading. We have therefore introduced a wide range of attachments that can be easily mounted onto our excavators to suit a range of applications. All these initiatives ultimately add up to enhance productivity without compromising on performance, thereby enhancing profitability for the customer.

Q. What are the new products shown by TATA
Interview
HITACHI in recent years?
We at Tata Hitachi put in special efforts to forecast trends along several parameters, including market and regulatory requirements. Based on these forecasts, strategic initiatives are taken by the top management to accordingly invest in new product development. Resources have been enhanced in the areas of engineering design, development, and testing. This has led to a faster rate of development and introduction of new products than compared to previous years. In 2013 we launched our advanced, cutting-edge ZAXIS GI Series excavators as part of our global initiative to introduce state-of-the-art international technology in India. As part of our commitment towards environmental obligations, we ensured that our wheeled equipment adheres to regulatory requirements of CEV-IV emission norms. The ball was set rolling with the introduction of our Shinrai Prime backhoe loader in 2018. In 2021 we launched the CEV-IV compliant TL340H Prime wheel loader. We also expanded the Shinrai backhoe loader portfolio during FY2021-22 to include a larger range of machines to cater to a variety of applications. In January 2022, we launched our advanced cutting-edge EX70 Prime Series Hydraulic Excavator, which signalled the introduction of Tata Hitachi’s new range of Prime Series Hydraulic Excavators. We have also introduced a range of indigenously manufactured mini excavators covering both 2-Tonne and 3-Tonne classes that meet the diverse requirements of customers. Some of the key advantages of our range of compact excavators include superior hydraulics, smaller footprint leading to easier manoeuvrability in confined spaces, enhanced digging reach, faster travel speed and turnaround time, superior operator comfort and safety, reliable engine for exceptional performance, higher fuel-Efficiency, a range of bucket and attachment options, and enhanced telematics suite to maximise productivity and machine uptime. These machines are being used in a wide variety of applications from panchayats, town municipalities and city corporations for assistance in Swachh Bharat programme, real estate, agricultural plantations, urban development, roads construction, utility works, to name a few.

The increases in the above-mentioned outlays are enabling drivers for a healthy growth in the CE industry this year. Further the proportion of greenfield multilane highways increasing and the PM Gatishakti Master plan for Expressway being formulated, the increased intensity of CE deployment in these projects will further add to the demand. In addition, the huge backlog in construction has led to extending the target to complete Bharatmala to FY27, which will expedite execution in the coming years. An announcement of start of the Ken-Betwa river linking project has also been made. And Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region will fund infrastructure to the tune of ₹ 1,500 crores. All this should enable a double-digit growth in equipment used in these applications like excavators, road construction equipment, and crushers, among others.
Q
. What will be the industry's outlook for coming years? What positive impact will the Budget 202223 have on the infra industry?
The union budget 2022-23 has demonstrated continuity and consistency over the previous year, with focus of driving growth by increasing Capex to ₹ 7.5 lakh crores. Within this Capex outlay, the following ministries and programmes are seeing growth over the previous budget:

The long-term view is also similarly optimistic. Bharatmala 2 is already in the works, and at least three more river linking projects are in advanced stages and are likely to be implemented in the coming years. Jal Jeevan mission targets 2024 to provide piped drinking water to household in rural areas. Railways will need investment of nearly USD 740 billion till 2030, more than half of it in construction and upgradation of lines. Coal India is targeting 1 billion tonnes of coal production by 2024 and 47 coal mines have been auctioned for commercial coal mining. All this will drive sustained demand for a range of construction and mining equipment as well as customised equipment over the years ahead.

Greases combine well with the lubricants in the oil, providing stickiness and allowing the lubricants to concentrate on the surfaces. Grease can also serve as a barrier, shielding surfaces from impurities that could
construction equipment. Lower viscosity fluids are simpler to pump around, and you may minimise total losses by lowering friction and heat by using them. Even a small improvement in each system will make a huge difference in overall machine efficiency. Improved Friction: Friction has been reduced. Most lubricants are designed to reduce friction, but there are instances when you want to maximise it. In some circumstances, especially with clutches or a wet brake system, you may wish to enhance friction. Obviously, you don't want to reduce friction in a braking system. You want the machine to come to a complete stop, but you also don't want any braking

They're tough to push out between the lengthy chains' surfaces, but you may create a slick barrier between them by using oil. The viscosity of oils determines their weight. The lower the number, Penetrating Lubricants: You'll understand why these lubricants require their own section if you're a shade-tree technician. A number of stuck-bolt warriors use these lubricants as shields. On the other hand, these coated components, penetrating lubricants, are not intended for long-term lubrication. These oils are particularly created for one purpose: to enter microscopic gaps on surfaces, promote lubrication, and break up the rust, thanks to their low viscosity. Penetrating oils come in a variety of forms, but you must know how to manufacture low-cost penetrating oils.
of these particles is extremely slippery, which lowers friction between these surfaces. They're also available as a spray, which is made up of alcohol, water, or other volatile solvents that evaporate after use.
Different Types of Lubrications Manual Lubrication: Manual lubrication necessitates the use of a grease gun or other traditional lubrication gear by a professional. This technique of lubrication has a number of drawbacks, including increased machine downtime, high maintenance costs, and uneven lubrication (too much, too less or not frequently enough). Automatic Lubrication: An automated lubrication system delivers the proper quantity of oil to your equipment at the right time and in the right location, generally while the machine is running. It takes the place of a traditional lubricating system, resulting in longer equipment life, less wear, and lower maintenance costs.
Benefits of Automatic Lubrication Automatic lubrication reduces wear and extends the life of your equipment by giving the appropriate quantity of oil at the right time and in the right location. To prevent moving

The components will be shielded from wear and will last longer if direct metalto-metal contact is avoided. Automatic lubrication systems deliver tiny quantities of lubricant more often, lowering lubricant usage. This not only saves money on oil and grease, but it also helps the environment. When a film of oil supports a spinning component, such as a shaft, it stops the shaft from touching the supporting bearing, this lubrication state occurs. In contrast to boundary conditions, hydrodynamic lubrication necessitates the preservation of the oil's physical qualities, notably its viscosity, under all circumstances. If the viscosity is lowered too much due to the working circumstances, metal-to-metal contact between the high spots or asperities may develop. When the viscosity of the oil is excessively high (thick), the internal resistance to the shearing of the oil molecules reduces operating efficiency and causes temperatures to rise substantially. A

oil rises dramatically. This pressure raises the viscosity of the oil, which raises the pressure even further. The pressure builds up to the point where the oil becomes a pseudo-solid. This will somewhat distort the components' contact zones, altering the rolling element's contact regions elastically. At the same time, the oil film thickness will prevent surface high spots or asperities from breaking the oil film as the rolling components rotate through the contact zone, providing the oil's physical parameters such when viscosity and viscosity index are correct for the application. Because temperature has a direct effect on an oil's viscosity, inappropriate or atypical operating temperatures will obstruct the production of the elastohydrodynamic lubricating layer. In bearings, the production of EHL coatings is invariably followed by a rise in temperature. Severe damage can occur if the temperature rises high enough to drastically lower the viscosity of the oil.

Effective OTR Tyres Selection And Maintenance Requirements Whether you're in the mining and earthmoving i n d u st r y, t ra n s p o r t i n g freight across the nation, or handling containers at port and terminal locations, your machines can help. The significance of tyres in keeping you moving is critical. Downtime is expensive and, at the very least, inconvenient. Since they provide mobility and efficiency, tracks and tyres are crucial components of every heavy equipment design. If the wrong selection is picked, an end-user customer's ability to accomplish their task will be significantly impacted. OEMs and their end-user customers have different requirements for the tracks and tyres they utilise. They must be able to move across a range of terrain and withstand operation in harsh operational environments, among other things. As

a result, track and tyre manufacturers must design equipment that can meet a variety of needs. Bias ply tyres have long been significantly employed in the construction and industrial industries due to the way the industry has always worked. Other equipment owners continue to assume that a tyre is simply a tyre, a commodity purchase that should be made based on the lowest price. However, in recent years, this thinking has begun to evolve. The conversion from bias ply to radial tyres for compact equipment, such as skid steers, backhoe loaders, and telescopic handlers, is gaining pace as more owners and operators discover the many benefits of radial tyres. They also understand that the lowest price does not necessarily indicate the lowest total cost of ownership.

The business model of equipment operators is shifting to a just-in-time one. They can't afford to have spare tyres on hand in case of flats, which is a common problem with bias-ply tyres, and they can't afford the downtime, especially on job sites where the nearest repair centre is miles away. As durability becomes more important than ever before, puncture-resistant, steel-belted radial tyres are a more enticing alternative than ever before. Radial tyres have a significantly longer life duration than traditional bias-ply tyres. One of the most common reasons for the retirement of a compact equipment tyre is sidewall failure. A typical cause of failure is tyre fatigue caused by the extremely severe loads placed on them during normal daily activities. Radial tyres have a far longer life expectancy than bias-ply tyres. bias-ply tyres may have noticed a difference in ride quality. Because of its wider footprint and more level wear, radial tyres give a far more enjoyable ride and a seamless transition from lug to lug.
Surface-Based Selection Tread pattern and tyre structure are two design features that impact how well a tyre will perform in different situations (radial or bias). These features can have a significant influence on tyre longevity. Here are some things to think about based on the sort of equipment. Skid Steer Tyre: There are three types of lugs to consider when analysing skid steer tyre tread patterns: diamond, bar (also known as sweeping), and turf (also known as button). On hard surfaces like rock and concrete, a pattern with diamond lugs and tiny spaces works well. It still provides high grip when needed as a deep tread design that puts more rubber on the ground than a bar lug design, but it also provides the best wear and impact protection for skid steers typically working on hard terrain. Choose a swept/bar lug design if you're working in deep muck or in regions where traction is an issue. Bar lugs overlap near the centre of the tyre www.constructionmirror.com
terrain, but they may wear faster and create a harsher ride on the road. For people who operate on both hard and soft terrain, a tyre with a high lug-to-void ratio in the centre and a lower lug-to-void ratio near the shoulder is frequently the ideal option for all-around performance. Grader Tyres: For graders, there are two major tread styles available. A directed tread pattern with a central riding rib is a suitable alternative if you're grading gravel roads with a grader. This is utilised on hard rock and abrasive surfaces when even wear and traction are required.
Backhoe Loader Tyres: When choosing tyres for a backhoe, it's important to consider where and how it'll be utilised. Front backhoe tyres are available in two tread styles: I-3 and F-3. On soft terrain, an I-3's open-bar lug design gives improved grip. An F-3's ribbed construction ensures lifespan, durability, and a smooth ride over rough terrain. When selecting a rear backhoe tyre, pay attention to the lug-to-void ratio. Tires with a greater lug-to-void ratio are preferable for hard terrain because they provide a more stable, smooth ride and longer, even wear. However, in mud, snow, and sand, these tyres would lack the grip of a tyre with a low lug-to-void ratio. Low lug-to-void ratio tyres are better for acquiring grip on soft www.constructionmirror.com
Loader Tyres: Smooth-tread tyres, available in tread depths of L-4S and L-5S, feature the most tread rubber for protection in harsh environments that don't require traction or extended tramming, such as scrapyards and landfills. Traditional basic bar lug designs, as well as varying tread depths dependent on use, are available in E- and L-style tyres. In the case of loaders, the choice of bias vs radial can make a significant difference in lifetime cost per hour. A bias might be a great, low-costper-hour investment if a loader is used in an application like operating at the face of a muck pile, where the machine is only traversing short cycles at low speeds, digging into a pile, and loading a truck or crusher. In contrast, if a loader is tramming around a jobsite at full speed with a heavy bucket, a radial will be a superior, longerlasting investment.
w w w. c o n s t r u c t i o n m i r r o r. c o m
and extend with greater voids toward the tire's shoulder in the swept/bar lug design. The big spaces give good grip on soft terrain while also allowing the tyre to clean itself more effectively when transitioning to a harder surface. Turf/ button lug designs are similar to diamond lugs, but they have very shallow treads with very little vacuum space between them. This design works well in situations where turf disturbance is a problem, such as golf course landscaping.
The other tread pattern is an all-season tread pattern that is utilised for ploughing snow and is important for traction and self-cleaning on all surfaces. It is again dependent on the use when deciding between a radial or bias grader tyre. If you're tramping over lengthy miles, a radial is the way to go. A bias tyre, on the other hand, is frequently sufficient and, when utilised properly, may save you money.
Hauler Tyres: Radial tyres are commonly employed in hauler applications due to the high-speed, long-distance nature of the task. However, several 85

details about earthmoving radial tyres, such as TMPH values and tread compounds, should be examined. The ton-mile-per-hour (TMPH) rating is a measurement of a tire's capacity to handle the weight, speed, and distance of the carrying. It's critical that transporter tyres have the appropriate TMPH ratings for the machine and the haul route. Compounds are vital for big loader and transporter applications as well. Radial tyres are classified into three types. Cut-resistant (C) is designed to withstand chipping and ripping in rocky environments. Wear-resistant (W) tread is designed to last longer in load and carry applications that require frequent stopping and starting. Heat-resistant (H) is designed for hauling big loads over long distances and at high speeds.
How to Extend the Life of Your Off-Road Tyres? Every consumer is unique, therefore it's critical to examine their requirements. This begins with getting to know the consumer — where they are, what they do, and the obstacles they face in their business – before moving on to what they want from their tyres. The location, the temps the tyres will be working in, and the ground conditions at the job site are all elements to consider. Everyone wants to save money; some clients want to cut down on downtime, while others may need to carry greater distances. When it comes to choosing a tyre with a client, the information acquired throughout the gettingto-know-you phase will help you decide: which tyre would be ideal for the application, how much the customer wants to spend, and how performance against price corresponds to customer happiness. Tyre specialists can then discuss heat-resistant vs cut-resistant alternatives, as well as other application-specific requirements, such as if the customer need additional sidewall protection. It's impossible to declare that one tyre suits all operations; it's a matter of analysing the data and taking into account the customer's job site

circumstances and requirements. Once they've gotten a feel for the roads, the choice tends to become clear. Different tyre manufacturers have their own tyre monitoring systems that might assist a business in determining whether an issue is possible before it becomes a problem. Utilizing these devices can pre-emptively avoid a breakdown before it happens and increase the life of the tyre. Tyres that have been properly maintained are more likely to wear evenly, making the casings suitable for retreading. It's critical for operations to know when a tire's life may be prolonged with a repair in order to keep it on the vehicle.
Maintenance Requirements Rotation and inflation: The greatest strategy to extend tyre life is to maintain optimum inflation pressures. At the very least, check inflation every time the machine is refuelled. It's also critical that the fleet manager inflates each machine to the tyre manufacturer's suggested levels. Individual machine rotation schedules should be specified. Repair Versus Replace: You should also be aware of when to replace and when to repair. All repairs should be discussed with your tyre dealer, as a general rule. If a tire's tread is worn out but it's still retaining air and is structurally sound, it can be worth retreading. With roughly 15% of the tread left on that tyre, pull it off. It's too late if it gets any farther and any of the under-tread compounds is revealed. Maintenance of the Wheels: Wheel maintenance is sometimes overlooked in favour of tyre maintenance, but fleet managers should be aware that wheels are just as critical. Observing the overall profile of the tyre and wheel combination should be part of a daily machine inspection. This entails inspecting component elements such as the rims, flanges, lock rings, and driver keys for any signs of corrosion. The valve stem, caps, and core should all be examined. There is a risk of losing air pressure if any portion of the valve malfunctions. CM www.constructionmirror.com

Q. What will be the industry's outlook for the
Interview
coming years?
The outlook seems to be positive so far. The construction industry here in India is expected to grow steadily over the next four quarters recording a CAGR of 9.5% during 2022-2026. Proud to learn many ambitious steps being undertaken by the Government of India as most of the investments are expected to be in ‘PM Gati Shakti’ projects across seven sectors Roads, Railways, Airports, Ports, Mass transport, Waterways & Logistics. Schemes such as the revolutionary Smart City Mission (target 100 cities) are expected to improve the quality of life through modernized/ technology-driven urban planning. Under NIP (National Industrial Policy), India has an investment budget of $1.4 Tn on infrastructure (24% on renewable energy, 19% on roads & highways, 16% on urban infrastructure, and 13% on railways). This is destined to help the industry to regain the momentum in coming days.
Q. Due to COVID-19, several industries are now
using new technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, etc. How is the construction and infrastructure industry using these technologies? Does it affect the industry or employment? The Indian construction industry contributes 9% to the nation’s GDP and any development in this industry would majorly impact country’s CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

The construction technology ecosystem has shifted towards integrated software platforms that better serve customer needs. Significant opportunities exist for strategic and financial investors.
AI based solutions can help during the construction process in many ways. AI can improve construction execution planning, the updating of construction sequences and task management while keeping all stakeholders updated. Furthermore, AI can also increase the productivity within construction execution itself. AI based tools could detect possible clashes, delays and changes within the construction process by comparing the digital twin of the building that is present in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) cloud against the actual physical representation. Robots and drones can be used for frequent image recording and 360 degree laser scans. These images and measurements provide the necessary input so that the AI can track the timely progress of the physical building against the plan stored in the BIM cloud. Furthermore, comparing the physical building progress against the digital twin enables automatic identification of errors/deviations from the original building plan during the construction phase. That provides the opportunity to react immediately, and thus perform troubleshooting at an early stage. This avoids the need for more costly correction at a later stage (e.g. if pipes or cables have been installed in the wrong location, they can be moved before all walls are closed). Possible delays and changes could potentially trigger the AI to perform an
www.constructionmirror.com
automatic change in the construction schedule that is stored in the BIM cloud. Building on this basis, all stakeholders, such as distributors and manufacturers, could be informed automatically. As a result, the construction site logistics would also be optimized as sub-contractors and suppliers could adjust their planning to the updated timelines. An AI driven construction process could therefore be the key enabler for just-in-time delivery of construction supplies.
The use of AI also increases safety in operating construction machinery. Cameras continuously observe the environment and check for potential collisions with people or objects and can warn the operator before accidents happen or stop the machine itself. AI therefore enables operators to work faster and more precisely for longer periods. In procurement, AI can help companies forecast prices for raw materials (sand, gravel, iron, etc.) and other input factors. In order to do so, AI will analyze data on both past price development and the development of other factors that influence the price of a raw material, or even identify such relationships autonomously. AI can then forecast the price and determine the optimal point in time to buy. The use of AI and the underlying digitization can help the industry fundamentally transform itself. The completion of this journey will not only unlock unimaginable productivity gains for the industry players, but also reap long term economic rewards for our nation.
Q. We have already had so many debates on
women empowerment. So, how are you encouraging women to empower themselves? The construction industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India and employs about 50 million people of whom 51% are women. It www.constructionmirror.com
The contractual nature of the construction industry often nullifies the minimum wage standards that exist in legislation. Women are paid less than men for performing the same work. Moreover, women are the first ones to be laid off or underemployed. Certain areas require urgent attention in order for women to cement their position in this industry. These include the Gender Sensitisation of all stakeholders, Capacity Building of women power that enhances the value of their efforts, implementation of comprehensive legislation, recruiting women to higher echelons of the industry and leveraging market mechanisms favouring women. Having said this, the industry is seeing winds of change, with an increasing number of women architects, project managers, bankers in the home loan segment , women entrepreneurs in construction companies etc.
w w w.w o c - i n d i a . c o m / h o m e
A major driver of construction delays and cost overruns are accidents. The use of AI in the form of computer vision in combination with cameras at the construction site might mitigate risks and reduce the number of accidents greatly.
is exceedingly rare for women in this industry to gain access to opportunities to acquire skills in more lucrative but predominantly male-dominated trades such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrician training. They instead perform various unskilled jobs in the industry such as cleaning building sites, carrying bricks, gravel, mortar and water up to the skilled carpenters and masons. Regardless of their level of experience, they are not upgraded to the position of skilled workers from unskilled workers. They are simply unable to ascend in the industry.
WoC 2022 Expo will offer the perfect platform for all stakeholders, including women in construction, to bring to fore the issues pertinent to them and discuss & debate solutions that are immediate need of the hour. This includes their roles in design and planning of urban spaces, housing and transport development, better safety practices at construction sites and better industry practices. The role of women in New India will be as important for this industry as the industry itself. CM

The major components of the concrete mixing plant There are high-rise structures everywhere in a city, and the construction of these buildings necessitates the use of a mechanical system: a concrete mixing plant. The concrete mixing station has storage, b a tc h i n g , t ra n s p o r t i n g , mixing, control, and other equipment for various raw materials necessary for concrete preparation, and various aggregates, adhesives, admixtures, additives, and water are passed through in a certain proportion. For centralised mixing and delivery of fresh concrete, the mixer uses a comprehensive set of equipment. A mixing transmission device and a mixing device are the major components of the concrete mixing plant's mixing system. Concrete production is a rather simple process to comprehend. This substance is made up of a variety of components and materials that have been combined. The base component, cement, is mixed with water, fly ash, sand, and aggregates in

specific proportions to form concrete. Roads, walkways, and sidewalks will all benefit from some of the concrete you'll produce. It may be used for a multitude of other purposes as well. Depending on the sorts of work handled by your organisation, this might be a significant benefit. Increased infrastructure investments in Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America are propelling the concrete batching plant industry ahead. The market is expanding as a result of the growth of large-scale infrastructure projects in Asia Pacific and other nations, as well as the recovery of the economy. Furthermore, governments in major countries are concentrating their efforts on improving transportation and energy infrastructure. Furthermore, improvements in the technology necessary for the manufacture of concrete aggregates have resulted in greater manufacturing process efficiency, resulting in increased productivity and

high-quality concrete. The aforementioned reasons are projected to increase demand for concrete batching plants in the near future, driving the concrete batching plant market forward. The mixing host, weighing system, conveying system, storage system, control system, and other auxiliary facilities make up a concrete batching plant. According to the stirring techniques, the mixing host machine is divided into forced stirring and self-unloading stirring. The forced mixer is the most common type of concrete mixer used in both local and international concrete plants. It can mix a wide range of concretes, including fluidity, semi-dry, and dry concrete. The self-unloading mixer is mostly used in the concrete batch plant to stir the fluid concrete. According to the construction, the forced mixer is made up of spindle planetary mixers, single horizontal shaft mixers, and twin horizontal shaft mixers. The twin-shaft forced mixer offers the best overall performance of the bunch.
Weighing system A significant component of a concrete batching plant is the material weighing system. It has an impact on the quality of concrete and the cost of manufacture. Furthermore, it is divided into three sections: aggregate weighing, powder weighing, and liquid weighing. The superposition weighing method is used in batching plants that produce less than 20 cubic metres per hour. To put it another way, the aggregate (sand, stone) is weighed on a scale, the cement and fly ash are weighed on a scale, and the water and liquid admixtures are weighed separately. In a batching plant with a capacity of more than 50 cubic metres per hour, however, each material is normally weighed independently, and all weighing is controlled by an electronic scale and a microprocessor.
a basic structure. The belt conveyor, on the other hand, has a long conveying distance, great efficiency, and a low failure rate. Furthermore, belt conveyors are primarily used in concrete batching plants with aggregate storage bins, which boosts the mixing plant's productivity.
Transporting powder Cement, fly ash, and mineral powder are the most common powders used in concrete. Screw conveyor conveying is the most frequent powder conveying technology. Spiral conveying also has the advantages of a simple structure, cheap cost, and dependable use.
System of storage The methods for storing materials in concrete are essentially the same. The aggregate is normally stored outside, the powder in a fully enclosed steel structure silo, and the admixture in a steel structural container.
Control System The control system of the concrete batching plant is the central nerve of the complete set of equipment. The control system has different functions and preparations according to different requirements of the user and the size of the concrete plant. Generally, small batching plant has a simple control system. On the contrary,

and the system of the large batching plant is relatively complicated.
Horizontal Concrete Mixing Machines A horizontal concrete mixing machine is a machine that produces concrete in a continuous manner. These machines are used in mass production to save time and money, lowering the final product's price. These machines may be installed on a trailer or chassis and transported from one site to another without interrupting the process.
Verticle Concrete Batching Machines Vertical concrete batching machines are a relatively new development in the concrete mixing business, and they have the potential to change the way we make concrete. These new machines, which can be managed totally
The usage of vertical concrete batching machines is common in the construction of large structures. They're made to make concrete without the use of any other ingredients. Waterscarce environments, such as arid regions, might also benefit from vertical batching machines. A hopper with cement powder and aggregate is included with the equipment. To make concrete, an operator pours water into a revolving drum inside the machine through an entrance on the side.
Plants for Dry-Batch Ready-Mix Concrete The mixing operation of the truck mixer provides a consistent concrete mix in this type of ready mix concrete factory. The mixing action is essentially a two-step process. Consider the complicated flow of plastic concrete that has already been mixed in the drum. Ignore the blade movement at first, then rotate the drum, and both the concrete internal friction and its friction on the drum inner surface cause the concrete to seem to travel up the drum's right-hand wall.
Plants for Ready-Mix Concrete in Wet Batch Wet batch systems come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with the most common being the plant-based mixer. This implies that various concrete mixture components, such as cement, aggregate, and water, are combined in the system. Wet batch concrete plants have a higher output than dry batch concrete plants, which is why they are sometimes referred to as big plants. Furthermore, if mortar manufacturing is required, a wet batch concrete facility is required. There are many mixer sizes ranging from 0.8 m2 to 6 m2, with the biggest mixer drum capable of mixing around 6 m2 polymeric concrete in around 45 seconds. Furthermore, there are other elements, such as the need to output, that must be considered.

The horizontal concrete batching machine is a relatively modern addition to the concrete industry, which has existed for many years. This machine is effective because it can generate 100 cubic yards of concrete every hour, which is ideal for major projects that require a huge volume of concrete in a short period of time. A tilt-up hopper and a self-contained mixer are also included inside the drum. With these features, the operator merely needs to add water and aggregate to generate high-quality concrete.

an electric motor. The link between the conveyor belt and the aggregates should be strong enough to carry enormous loads. A cleaning brush is sometimes placed beneath the conveyor belt to clean it and extend its life.
Plants for Ready-Mix Concrete in Combination Batches
Mixer: Various mixers are available for your site, depending on the size of your concrete batching plant. The smallest mixer has a capacity of 0.5 m3 while the largest mixer has a capacity of 3 m3.
This type of batching plant combines the dry batch and wet batch systems, and the majority of the concrete is mixed in the dry leg, while tiny mixers with 0.8-2 m3 are used to transport concrete to the client.
Components of a Plant Aggregate hopper and weighing system: Because the batching plant is self-contained, an aggregate hopper is required. The quantity of components utilised at the location determines the number of compartments in this hopper. With an unloading piston under each section, it can be 3 to 6 divisions. This permits the weighing system to order the unloading pistons automatically. Each unloader has a weighing system that measures the aggregate. The same stated ratio is assured when the process is controlled by the weighing system, and the quality is maintained. Conveyor Belt: The aggregates are transported from the weighing system to the mixer via a conveyor belt. It is propelled by a gearbox and

Building companies employ commercial mixing stations to speed up construction while lowering rental expenses for equipment, racks, pipes, templates, and other materials. Shortening the building process can help unit owners lower their investment risk. The design unit may avoid the "fat beam," "fat column," and "heavy plate" according to the mixing station's design since the commercial mixing plant's quality is constant and trustworthy. The use of mineral active admixtures (such as slag and fly ash) in the mix mixing station can increase the long-term performance of concrete in terms of waterproofing, antifreeze, anti-cracking, and abrasion resistance, as well as the building's service life. The quality of the machinery is one of the most significant elements to consider. It makes no difference how much money you have; the most important thing is that you find a high-quality machine for your plant. Some countries charge a premium for high-quality machines, while others charge a cheaper price for identical machines since their labour costs are lower than in other countries.
on it. It requires little upkeep. It can function 24 hours a day, and many problems, such as electrical and mechanical part failures, that can arise with the main system, will not occur if the machine's quality is excellent. The other issue is your capacity; you should think about expanding your business in the future and purchasing a machine that will meet your future needs. If you live in a developing country where the building industry is growing at a rapid pace, you can consider purchasing a batching plant with a larger capacity than your existing requirements. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. Otherwise, you should sell your old equipment and purchase new equipment. This will be significantly more expensive than purchasing a larger item. CM
However, in other countries, low prices are accompanied by inferior quality. High-grade devices may appear to be a little pricey at first, but the quality much outweighs the cost. When you have a high-quality machine, you can rely www.constructionmirror.com

Therefore, it is highly recommended to set up a small work shop at site or nearby to process the entire rebar as per schedule. If you have multiple projects in one city, better to set up a rebar processing shed and send to various sites according to site requirements. This will definitely speed up your project and can save cost. CM For more details, please visit us at Hall 2/A4 on May 17-21/2022 EXCON – BANGALORE

Layher Allround for maintenance of Bridge
Allround Scaffolding Innovative Concept : Solutions for Bridge Construction and Maintenance For more than 75 years, the Layher (the name of German Company) has been synonymous worldwide with high-quality and practically tested scaffolding systems. Layher is present worldwide with more than 30 sales subsidiaries. The products are used for building and construction, in all kinds of industries like chemical plants or power plants, at shipyards and offshore. Due to innovative products, superior technical solutions and Layher’s absolute customer orientated service package Layher has become the standard in scaffolding systems worldwide. Quick to assemble – safe and flexible to use Allround Scaffolding from Layher lives up to its name: its efficient assembly and dismantling, its enormous performance and the highest level of flexibility make it suitable for practically every application. At civil engineering sites, construction companies have to build a whole range of structures in addition to handling the actual building work: from classic work scaffolding to reinforcing and

shoring structures and accesses such as stairs and bridging. In many cases, steel or timber structures built specifically for the project are used for these requirements – the drawback being wage-intensive production and limited applicability. Layher can offer with its Allround Scaffolding a holistic approach, and as a result a considerably more economical alternative, for these extensive requirements. Allround Scaffolding Lightweight from Layher The basis for all temporary structures is the four basic components of Allround Scaffolding – standards, ledgers, diagonal braces and system decks. Fast and material-saving assembly is assured not only by the low weight of the system components, yet high loading capacity thanks to the use of the latest higher-strength steels, but also by the self-locking wedge head connection using the proven Allround Connector with its structural advantages and up to eight connection options in one plane, the automatic rectangularity of the system, and the predetermined system dimension. Time-consuming measurements can be www.constructionmirror.com
Scaffolding) Allround scaffolding uses a simple, unique and bolt free connection technology. Sliding the wedge head over the rosette and inserting the wedge into the opening immediately secures the component. There is still sufficient play to secure the other end of the ledger. A hammer blow to the wedge transforms the loose connection into a superbly strong structurally rigid one. The face of the wedge head is now precisely positioned against the standard. Shoring was built to provide temporary support for the formwork during construction of a motorway bridge. Using Layher Allround Scaffolding ensured an economical solution here: since there are load concentrations in the area of the bridge walkways, shoring towers were simply integrated into the Allround Scaffolding using the high-strength Allround Shoring Frames TG 60. This allowed the heavy loads to be safely transmitted. The bolt-free and self-locking Allround wedge head connection Auto- Lock, automatic rectangularity plus the Allround System lengths also allowed rapid assembly – with no need for tiresome measuring work. The safe assembly sequence for Allround Shoring TG 60 automatically provides scaffolding erectors with all-round side protection, even without additional components, during upright assembly. This allows the valid safety regulations to be met in full for the first time. The use of the new Allround Shoring TG 60 thus ensured crucial advantages for Scaffolding Company: compliance with the tight schedules required by project planning, optimum working conditions for the formwork and a high degree of safety during assembly work. dispensed with. The free selection of the angles for the connections and the different standard lengths ensure flexible adaptation to building geometries, ground plans and topographical peculiarities – using standard components. For further applications, the Layher construction kit also includes matching supplementary components – structurally and dimensionally integrated into the system: in conjunction with a stairway stringer, the four basic Allround components are quickly transformed into a site stair-tower. Combination Allround Shoring Frames TG 60 with Allround Scaffolding allows shoring towers with a loading capacity of up to six tonnes per standard to be built. System solution versus steelwork-based one-off structures Fast and economical assembly is just one of the advantages that system scaffolding has over steelwork-based One-off structures. –or other scaffolding systems. Also important: rapid availability of the standard components, rapid costing on the basis of the existing listed prices, simple structural strength verification based on building authority approval, flexible adjustment even to complex building geometries – and not least repeated and above all versatile opportunities for use, from facade, suspended and birdcage scaffolding to shoring, reinforcing scaffolding, stairs and bridging, plus site protection – i.e. roofs or enclosures. Integration of Allround Shoring Towers TG 60 into Allround Scaffolding enables economical solutions Layher Allround shoring TG 60, (The False work frame – even more possibilities in Allround
