I have consulted with the remaining staff and have decided that our magazine has outlived its purpose. It was a very fun ride to say the least and I think I can speak for all of us that we benefitted immensely from producing Electric Trash. This was never a long term project but it makes me sad to depart with it so soon! After all, this was my baby and I’ve invested so much time and energy into making it what it is. We will all be doing our own projects from now on so thank you for supporting us all the way!

6ft.down Interview by Gloria Do Translated by Shihomi Kobayashi Photos by 413tracks & 6ft.down
Welcome to ELECTRIC TRASH! We are happy to have you with us this issue! Electric Trash: First please introduce yourselves! NAO: I’m Nao! In charge of the Vocal&Piano Qoo: I play bass for 6ft. down and I’m Qoo. TAKEO: I’m guitarist Takeo TAICHI: I’m TAICHI on drums. Electric Trash: How did you all meet and decide about starting the band? NAO: When the vocalist before me had left, the band was doing recruitments and auditions. I met then when I was chosen to the new vocalist. TAKEO: I knew Qoo and TAICHI on internet at first. We had a session at the studio, and I realized with us, it could be really cool. TAICHI: Firstly, Qoo(Ba) and I are childhood friends so we really wanted to do something together and so we made this band. I was recruiting members on the internet and that was when we met the previous vocalist and TAKEO. After the vocalist resigned, NAO came and joined. Electric Trash: Who are your influences? NAO: Korn, evanescence Qoo: When I began music, X JAPAN had a tremendous impact on me. Also, Slipknot , Limp Bizkit, and Korn also had influences on me. TAKEO: In Japan would be BUCK-TICK and overseas would be METALLICA. TAICHI: I love Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers so I really wanted to play the drums tight and powerful like him! 8

Electric Trash: We still want to learn about you! so please say something about another band member! Qoo: I have absolute confidence in TAKEO. His ideas and sense are very impressive. As for TAICHI, I’ve known him for a long time and he is like a dependable older brother as well as a threatening younger brother at the same time. NAO is a person who has mystical powers with the aura able to attract people! The existence is tooooo great you can’t ignore! TAICHI: TAKEO is a guitarist who makes motivation goes up! The sound he makes is soooo cool. I can’t live without Qoo. I think Nao is a person who carries her own views. That is very important for being an artist. Electric Trash: For “Invitation to Anesthesia” Album, why did you choose to write all the lyrics in English? NAO: It was easier to make them in English rather than Japanese because I lived in LA. Electric Trash: Could you briefly tell us about the music-making process? TAKEO: Firstly, I create and paint the image of the song briefly in my mind. Then I think about the melody to really catch my feelings. After, the song is build up gradually and lastly we finish it up with our producer. Electric Trash: 6ft Down can be considered “Gothic Metal” band. Are you into the Gothic scene? What is the gothic scene like in Japan? TAKEO: I personally like Gothic Metal. In Japan, the fashion has a big influence so I think that there are a lot of girls metal band that can give that “gothic image”. http://electrictrash.com

Electric Trash: Can you tell us about your most frightening or weirdest experience onstage?
“I think our band grasps both of Metal’s depth and catchy factors.” -Nao NAO: We just had a 70 minutes live on November 7! We did songs we don’t usually perform so I really practiced hard for them. It was difficult to sing and play the piano together. Qoo: My strap came often! TAKEO: A lot of machinery troubles. I feel bizarre and mysterious phenomenon happening in the live house and the studio where it is place of many strong spirits TAICHI: Qoo’s bass strap will be coming off but I’ll be playing the drums so when I see it, it’s very funny to me! (lol) His face becomes instantly desperate (lol) Electric Trash: 6ft Down has a very heavy sound, do you ever think of experimenting with other elements? TAKEO: Up until now, we’ve tried lots of different things. What kind? That is a secret. The things we are playing now is the completion, but we will explore more. Electric Trash: Since NAO joined as the new vocalist, are you still performing older songs? TAKEO: We do a couple songs, but someday probably won’t be doing them anymore. Electric Trash: What would you all be doing if you weren’t doing music? NAO: work in a bakery 10

Qoo: perhaps a hairstylist? TAKEO: somehow I would think I’ll become some kind of creative person. TAICHI: a teacher in your middle school or high school!
Electric Trash: If we were to take a look into your music player right now, what would we find in there? NAO: Of course heavy metal but also jazz fun blues rock. I listen and put various genres in. Qoo: Heavy and Metal sounds TAKEO: 2000 Metal songs, 1000 hardcore & punk songs, 500 rock songs, 500 techno songs, and 1000 J-POP songs. Electric Trash: If you could choose one song to represent 6ft Down, which one would it be? TAICHI: probably FANATIC FOR REJECTION NAO: same, it is FANATIC FOR REJECTION TAKEO: FANATIC FOR REJECTION Electric Trash: Takeo, you are also the guitarist of another band ROSEROSE, are there any difficulty in scheduling rehearsals and doing gigs? TAKEO: Yes. It is pretty hard to fix both schedules. But, both things are what I wanna do so there’s no choice for me. I’ll troubled if someone asks me to choose just one. Electric NAO: You TAKEO: I tors. In perhaps?
Trash: What separates 6ft Down from other bands? can see someone playing the piano actually in our concert! think our band grasps both of Metal’s depth and catchy facterms of it, I guess our band comes top of Japanese bands
Electric Trash: Now let’s go to some music unrelated questions. Electric Trash: If you were all in a van, who is likely to be the driver? Qoo: Mainly TAKEO! Basically, going there is TAKEO and coming back is me but I wholly depend on Electric Trash: Places you would like to visit? NAO: I want to tour all over Japan. Also, I want to go overseas! Qoo: I don’t ask for much. If you wanna take me, I’ll be there. TAKEO: I’d like to go overseas. TAICHI: Speaking of foreign countries, it would be England and West Coast of America. I want to try to do lives in unheard of places. http://electrictrash.com

Model: Page Ruth photo: Cristina D. Viseu Clothing: Rockin Bones 20 http://electrictrash.com
Hi! Thank you for taking time to do an interview with Electric Trash. First off, how did you come up with the name “Rockin’ Bones”? Kendra: Robert came up with the name for the company when it was founded in 2002. It was an homage to his favorite band, The Cramps and the name of a song originally recorded by rockabilly singer Ronnie Dawson. How did Rockin’ Bones develop into the style that it is today? Or did it originally start off with a consistent style? Kendra: From the beginning, Rockin’ Bones clothing has always had the same concepts in terms of cut and printing processes: raw edges, mini length outfits, lots of shredding and cotton fabrics, and splattery prints with distressing. We have always stuck with the horror theme throughout the years too. Off an on, geometric shapes and prints such as hearts and stars have dominated our line along with bright colors, but we tend to lean towards darker themes and imagery. We were 80s kids, so we both have a fascination with pop culture, significantly horror movies and rock music. These themes will always appear in our line. What is the thought process that goes behind each of your pieces? Kendra: We really have no set blueprints when designing a new piece. We just look at the situation and what new item we want to add or need to add to benefit our collection as a whole and play it by ear when it comes down to what makes it to the photo shoot. Sometimes we have really good designs that are thrown wayward because it’s not the right time and then pop up much later and perfected. It’s a lot like songwriting when you’re in a band. We see a lot of skull and bat motifs in your clothing. How do you go about designing the prints for each piece? Kendra: Robert designs the prints. He’s been drawing skulls and bats since he was a little kid and on some occasions has used some of the material from 20+ years ago. For the new prints, he uses a combination of sketching and photography that passes through photoshop before it’s finally burnt to a silkscreen. How do you decide when a piece is really finished? Do you ever want to go back and redesign your pieces? Kendra: Actually, sometimes we do end up redesigning a piece. Often, especially when there is a new fabric cut or graphic involved, we do a test shoot ourselves and I model the design to see how it looks in pictures and how our clients respond. http://electrictrash.com 21
If we don’t like the initial result we’ll go back to the drawing board and alter the length, cut, print, & detailing on a design. We also do this to upgrade an older popular design when it doesn’t quite fit in with the new stuff that well. We never consider a design completely finished and off limits for restructuring. What is your favorite article of clothing or accessory to design and why?(one-piece, cutsew, necklace, etc) Kendra: I really like designing halter tops the most. There’s just so much you can do with a halter top in terms of detailing. I really like adding flowers and chains and fun things like that to tops and then layering them with simpler pieces from our line. The versatility makes them fun. Do you wear Rockin’ Bones clothing everyday? What is your personal favorite outfit? 22
http://electrictrash.com
Kendra: We both wear Rockin’ Bones clothing frequently. It definitely makes shopping easier! Sometimes we design new items simply because we are bored with the clothing in our closets so we can wear the stuff after it’s made. Right now, I personally like the new boat neck tee dresses that we’re releasing (we’ll be adding them regularly from now on). I hate wearing pants and they tee dresses are fun to layer with tights, boots, and jackets on cold winter days. Again, thank you for doing this interview with us. One last question, are there any new surprises that we should be looking out for coming from Rockin’ Bones? Kendra: Some of the biggest Rockin’ Bones surprises are even surprises to us so you should always be on the lookout at rockinbones. net!

The Quest for
Beauty
bY: gENINE cUMBA
How
many times have you’ve waken up in the morning, anxious to step on a scale? How many times have you’ve opted out of dining out with friends for the sake of losing a pound or two? people, especially women, often worry about their weight. It’s a normal concern, but sometimes these petty concerns morph into serious and life-threatening disorders. These disorders such as anorexia and bulimia all start with a distorted self-image, an image brought about by certain factors in a girl’s life. Some factors that affect self-image are cultural pressures, genetics, family environment, life transitions, and finally, psychological issues.
The
ubiquity of ads, shows, and even toys portraying skinny as an equivalent to beauty endangers women, particularly young girls. At a young age, girls are exposed to dolls like Barbie whose proportions are…far from reality to say the least. Sadly, to little girls, Barbie and other similar dolls serve as an example of how a perfect girl should look like: a tiny waist, enormous breasts, and plastered smile all wrapped up in a tiny plastic package. As these girls move on to adolescence and adulthood, 44
http://electrictrash.com
Celebrities
and supermodels graze the cover of popular magazines and television shows. The media glorifies the skinny image and sets a high standard for beauty. Even in high school, the stereotypical cheerleaders are put up on a pedestal and praised for their tight behinds and rock-hard abs. Many people are happy with their image, but to those who are self-conscious and vulnerable, these constant reminders of how beauty should look can lead then down a path of misery and self-hatred.
Another
factor is genetics. One of the more surprising factors, genetics affects people, primarily those who come from families with histories of eating disorders, alcohol abuse, and depression. If a family member suffers from any of those factors, it is likely that their influence could affect another member of the family. Although it may seem that these disorders are only prevalent in torn and dysfunctional families, they are also common in children surrounded by Loving, caring parents that provide a safehaven for their children and a feeling of closure, a feeling that can often become a feeling of suffocation. The pressures of being a part of a “perfect” family can affect a child’s mentality. In addition to living up to their parents’ sometimes unrealistic expectations, they must also live up to their own. In order to reach that standard, some are willing to go through drastic measures for the sake of perfection.
Another
contributor is life transitions such as death of loved one, the end of a relationship, failure in school or work, and etc. These sudden changes in the flow of one’s life can trigger a disorder. Perfection as a subsequent action to loss or change. Events such as these can lead to psychological turmoil, depression, a need for control, and other psychological issues. An unstable state of mind could be the bane of one’s life. The need for control, as harmless as it sounds, can lead to a stronger desire to control one’s body. After a while, this desire can spiral out of control when a person feels that he or she cannot achieve that perfection. In their eyes, they can never be who they want to be. No matter how beautiful they really are, that beauty is blocked by the fake image of beauty glorified by society. In the end, many continuously and unknowingly harm themselves and carry their distorted self-image to the grave.
In order to stop this epidemic that has plagued countless families and communities, we have to realize that we’re not manufactured creatures molded to perfection. We’re all individuals, each with our own image and unique kind of beauty. We need to reconcile ourselves to the fact
