Ci sarà pure una ragione se dal febbraio 1928 la Fraglia Vela Riva continua ad organizzare regate internazionali: lo splendido scenario dell’Alto Lago di Garda fatto di natura, colori, sole, vento rimane nel cuore di tutti i regatanti che hanno la fortuna di navigare in questo magnifico lago. Nel 2015, secondo anno di attività del Consiglio Direttivo che presiedo, presentiamo un calendario fitto di importanti impegni: 95 giorni di regate distribuiti su sette mesi che comprendono tre mondiali Topper, Cadet, Musto Performance Skiff - oltre al celeberrimo 33° Meeting Optimist (Guinness World Record 2012 ancora imbattuto).

Fraglia Vela Riva non vuol dire solamente “Regate” ma anche “squadra agonistica”, con numerosi campioni che proprio da queste acque vengono temprati per imprese sempre più difficili ed anche “scuola di vela” con numerosi partecipanti di ogni età e anche un attrezzato centro per il diporto che accoglie le imbarcazioni cabinate. Sarò lieto di accogliere tutti Voi nella storica sede sociale per un 2015 ricco di quelle emozioni che solo la vela e la “nostra ora” sanno regalare. Buon Vento!

Is it any wonder why Fraglia Vela Riva has been organising International regattas since February 1928? The wonderful scenery and natural beauty of Northern Lake Garda with its colours, sunshine and winds, capture the hearts of all who are lucky enough to sail on this magnificent lake. As I enter my second year as Chairman I, along with my fellow Board members, present yet another calender packed full of important events for the 2015 season. Ninety five days of regattas are planned over 7 months including three World Championships for The Topper, Cadet and Musto Performance skiff, as well as the famous 33rd Lake Garda Optimist Meeting ( with its still unbroken 2012 Guinness World Record!).

But Fraglia Vela Riva isn’t just about “regattas”, it also means“Racing Teams”, with its numerous champions who, thanks to these waters continue to improve their strength and skills that help them tackle increasingly difficult challenges. Fraglia Vela Riva also means “Sailing School”, for its many participants of all ages and its well-equipped centre to accommodate pleasure boats. I look forward to welcoming all of you to our historic clubhouse and to spend yet another year together to experience the emotions that only sailing and our “Ora” wind can provide. La Fraglia Vela Riva è stata insignita della “Stella d’oro al Merito Sportivo”, l’onorificenza del CONI istituita nel 1933 e assegnata a quelle società che si sono dedicate con impegno a favore dello sport per almeno 50 anni di attività. Fraglia Vela Riva, has been awarded the “Stella d’Oro al Merito Sportivo.” (the gold star merit in sport). This award, established in 1933 by CONI, was presented to Fraglia for its 50 years of commitment and promotion of sport.

La Fraglia Vela Riva Ă¨ entrata nella storia della vela con la certificazione Guinness World Records per lâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;organizzazione della regata di vela monoclasse piĂš numerosa al mondo. Millecinquantacinque i partecipanti raggiunti in occasione del trentesimo Meeting del Garda Optimist, nel 2012. Un record conquistato grazie soprattutto ai giovani timonieri di oggi, che rappresentano la vela di domani e su cui la Fraglia Vela Riva dedica gran parte dei propri sforzi.

Fraglia Vela Riva has gone down in sailing history by being certified by the Guinness World Records for organising the largest, single- class regatta in the world. One thousand and fifty-five participants came together for the 30th Garda Optimist Meeting in Spring, 2012. The record was made thanks to the young helmsmen of today who represent the future of sailing and of whom Fraglia Vela Riva dedicates a large part of its time and energy.

LA STORIA - HISTORY

Fondata da Gabriele D’Annunzio nel 1928 è uno dei circoli velici più attivi a livello internazionale, nonchè Guinness World Records con il Meeting del Garda Optimist. La Fraglia Vela Riva si può definire un club multi-tasking, dato che è impegnata contemporaneamente nell’organizzazione di regate, ha una florida scuola vela per bambini e adulti e giovani regatanti che ottengono risultati d’eccellenza. Il termine fraglia pare derivi dal dialetto

veneto-istriano, che indica una corporazione di arti e mestieri; termine che qui prenderebbe valenza marinara e sportiva. Un’altra ipotesi è una contrazione delle voci fratellanza e famiglia nel latino medievale fratale. Quale che sia, ispirò d’Annunzio nel chiamare “Fraglia della Vela” la nuova sezione autonoma della più generica Fraglia Atletica Benacense. Il Circolo si trova nel parco della città di Riva del Garda, di fronte allo storico “Canale della Rocca”

e alla fortezza del 13° secolo. La sua attività inizia negli anni 20 anche se inizialmente conglobata all’interno della Società Sportiva Benacense. Risale al 1920 il restauro di un cutter austriaco (Sirius) recuperato dal fondo lago, che fu poi ribattezzato “Galeotto” e che rappresentò la prima imbarcazione ammiraglia di una piccola flotta della canottieri S.S. benacense: l’inizio di una lunga storia di barche, di campioni e di importanti regate. Nel 1928 la

Fraglia si costituisce sezione autonoma, impegnandosi attraverso lo statuto nello sviluppare l’arte della vela, favorendone la competizione sportiva attraverso le gare. L’inaugurazione del club come circolo sportivo è datata giugno 1934, stesso anno in cui fu inaugurata l’adiacente spiaggia degli ulivi, che trasformò la città di Riva del Garda da un luogo di cura di impronta asburgica, a ridente località italiana dal sapore Mediterraneo.

Founded by Gabriele D’Annunzio in 1928, Fraglia Vela Riva is one of the most dynamic sailing clubs on the international scene. It also holds a Guinness World Record for the Garda Optimist Meeting. Fraglia Vela Riva can define itself as a multi-tasking club as it commits itself to both the organisation of regattas and to its flourishing sailing school for children, youngsters and adults who all achieve excellent results. The term “fraglia”, is thought to have

come from Venetian-Istrian dialect meaning “guild”; which could prove its association with marine and sport. Another hypothesis is that it is a contraction of the voices “fratellanza and famiglia” in mediaeval monastic Latin. Whatever the case it inspired d’Annunzio to name “Fraglia della Vela” the new independent section of the generic Fraglia Atletica Benacense. The Club is situated in Riva del Garda’s Park in front of the historic “Canale

della Rocca” and 13th century fortress. The Club started up in the 1920’s even though at the beginning it was part of the Società Sportiva Benacense. In 1920 the restoration of the Austrian cutter (Sirius), retrieved from the bed of the lake and renamed the Galeotto,became the 1st flagship of a small fleet of rowers known as the S.S. Benacense: thus signalling the start of a long history of boats, champions and major regattas. In 1928 Fraglia

became a separate entity working towards a statute on the development of the art of sailing encouraging competitive sport through racing. In June 1934 the Club was inaugurated and in the same year the adjacent area known as the Spiaggia degli Ulivi was opened, transforming the town of Riva from a Hapsburg health spa into a charming Italian resort with a decidedly Mediterranean flavour.

Tra i personaggi di eccellenza che hanno frequentato e sostenuto la Fraglia quello più rappresentativo e importante è stato il grande poeta nazionale del tempo, Gabriele d’Annunzio, che il 31 agosto 1937 fu nominato Presidente ab aeterno dai soci dell’associazione. Nel 1951 si disputò la prima edizione della Settimana Velica Internazionale, l’Intervela. La Fraglia Vela Riva nella sua storia ha sempre promosso l’attività velica in perfetta simbiosi con il turismo dell’Alto Garda e del Trentino in genere: oggi Riva del Garda è famosa in tutto il mondo per le sue eccezionali condizioni climatiche e ventose; è un punto di riferimento per moltissime regate internazionali, come per tutti gli appassionati di sport all’aria aperta, in una “meraviglia” di lago, così come definito da Goethe. One of the most notable figures to have patronised and supported Fraglia was the great Italian poet Gabriele d’Annunzio. On the 31st of August 1937 he was named President ab Aeterno by the Association. In 1951 the first edition of International Sailing Week, Intervela, took place.Throughout its history Fraglia Vela Riva has always promoted its sailing events in perfect synthesis with the tourism of Upper Garda and Trentino. Today Riva is well known throughout the world for its excellent climatic and wind conditions and is a major attraction for numerous International Regattas and enthusiasts of outdoor sports .Lake Garda..... “a marvel of a lake” as described by Goethe.

Riva del Garda dista ad un’ora d’auto dall’aeroporto Internazionale di Verona e Brescia da cui fa servizio 4 volte al giorno uno shuttle bus. Inoltre dista un paio d’ore dall’aeroporto Internazionale di Milano. Rovereto è il centro ferroviario più importante nelle vicinanze (30’ ca.). Un servizio autobus Trentino Trasporti collega Rovereto con Riva del Garda. La sede della Fraglia Vela Riva è confinante con il Centro di Riva del Garda e quindi comoda ad una serie di strutture alberghiere, esercizi commerciali, bar e ristoranti, che si possono raggiungere a piedi.

Riva del Garda is an hour’s drive from Verona International Airport and Brescia Airport where a shuttle bus service runs four times a day. Milan International Airport is also approximately a two hour drive. Rovereto is the closest station if coming by rail ( 30 Km Ca.) Trentino Transportation provides a bus service which connects Rovereto and Riva del Garda. Fraglia Vela Riva’s clubhouse is close to the town centre and within walking distance of hotels, restaurants, bars and shopping.

La storica sede della Fraglia offre una struttura che soddisfa le esigenze dei regatanti 365 giorni l’anno. Segreteria, officina, spogliatoi sono a piano terra comodi alla gru e allo scivolo di alaggio delle barche; bar e ristorante, sala comfort/internet, terrazza, offrono al primo piano una vista sul lago mozzafiato e una serie di servizi comodi per il pre o post regata. In particolar modo la terrazza, in gran parte coperta con struttura fissa, si addice a cene e party, che fanno delle regate un momento socializzante di aggregazione tra regatanti, accompagnatori e ufficiali di regata, spesso provenienti da paesi diversi. In prossimità del circolo c’è la passeggiata lungolago, con uno spazio che si addice per eventi di marketing pubblicitario come ad esempio l’esposizione di auto, piuttosto che prodotti di vario genere rivolti all’utente finale.

LA SEDE CLUBHOUSE

Fraglia Vela Riva provides a wide range of facilities for competitors 365 days a year. The administration offices, mechanic’s shop and changing rooms are conveniently located on the ground floor next to the crane and boat launch; situated on the first floor there is a restaurant, bar and lounge with internet, a terrace that offers a breathtaking view of the lake and a number of services for before and after competitions. The covered terrace is a perfect venue for dinners and parties and gives competitors and officials from all over the world a chance to relax and get to know each other. Close to the clubhouse along the lake there is a special area which is suitable for marketing expositions, for example car shows, offering an alternative to the more traditional venues.

LOGISTICA - LOGISTICS Il circolo Ă¨ attrezzato per ospitare barche, mezzi, ospiti regatanti ed accompagnatori, con una serie di servizi e mezzi interni alle strutture del club. Questi i mezzi e le strutture esistenti: Il parco barche adiacente al club ha 250 posti, 2 scivoli di alaggio, parcheggio auto, area coperta per stazze vele, ulteriori 80 posti barca liberi nel porto per uso regate, 3 pilotine per il Comitato di Regata, 14 gommoni di proprietĂ , magazzino per le barche e vele, 2 sale riunioni, scuola di vela, bagni, docce spogliatoi, ufficio di segreteria regata, 3 Uffici per Giuria e Comitato di Regata, bar - ristorante, terrazza coperta di 400 metri quadrati per feste e premiazioni, solarium superiore, stazione meteo, web cam di rete, wireless, cablaggio fibra ottica. The club is equipped to host boats, transportation, competitors and their entourage with a number of services and facilities. IL TELERISCALDAMENTO FA BENE ALL’AMBIENTE AGS (Alto Garda Servizi Spa) è un'azienda multiservizio fortemente radicata nel territorio dell’Alto Garda e Ledro dove svolge molteplici attività nel campo della produzione di energia elettrica e calore, opera nella distribuzione di energia elettrica e gas metano, del ciclo idrico, illuminazione pubblica, nonché distribuzione e commercializzazione del servizio calore mediante Teleriscaldamento. Il Gruppo AGS riconosce da sempre l’importanza di trovare il giusto equilibrio tra esigenze di consumo energetico e salvaguardia dell’ambiente perseguendo ed impegnandosi in obiettivi e progetti di sostenibilità ambientale. La realizzazione della rete di teleriscaldamento abbinata ad un sistema di cogenerazione è una soluzione alternativa, rispettosa dell'ambiente, sicura ed economica per la produzione di acqua igienico sanitaria e il riscaldamento degli edifici pubblici e privati, siano essi residenziali, terziari, commerciali o industriali.

Il termine “teleriscaldamento” sottolinea la peculiarità del servizio, infatti significa letteralmente “riscaldamento a distanza”, ossia la distanza esistente tra il punto di produzione del calore e i punti di utilizzo. La produzione di calore avviene tramite la nuova Centrale di Cogenerazione, realizzata nel sito delle Cartiere del Garda Spa, tecnicamente all’avanguardia ed abbinata al Teleriscaldamento. Infatti, la Rete, utilizzando energia di recupero, rientra tra gli strumenti che concorrono alla riduzione delle emissioni di anidride carbonica e, in questo modo, contribuisce al raggiungimento dell’obiettivo nazionale di rispetto del Protocollo di Kyoto.

SCUOLA VELA La scuola vela della Fraglia Vela Riva è organizzata e gestita tecnicamente da istruttori federali, che garantiscono la massima qualità didattica e metodologica dell’apprendimento velico nei suoi vari aspetti con l’obbiettivo di saper condurre al meglio una barca sia in regata che in crociera. Da alcuni anni c’è stato un forte incremento di iscritti ai corsi di vela, nonchè al progetto “vela-scuola”. iniziativa che oggi anno avvicina alla vela almeno 300 giovani studenti del territorio. Dettagli su tutti i corsi di vela sul folder disponibile sia in segreteria, che sul sito web www.fragliavelariva.it Scuola Vela Adulti Con età minima di 14 anni la scuola vela “adulti” si articola con offerte, che possono essere ampliate a seconda delle richieste: i corsi si sviluppano sia in week end, che a settimana, o a uscite giornaliere. Le lezioni pratiche si svolgono su imbarcazioni Laser Stratos o J 80.

Scuola Vela Giovanissimi La Fraglia Vela Riva organizza corsi di vela per bambini dai 7 ai 13 anni, adatti a tutti i ragazzi che desiderano imparare l’abc della vela; si svolgono in due settimane consecutive, utilizzando l’Optimist, il piccolo scafo che assolve alla funzione di prima barca per avvicinarsi all’arte marinara. Frequentato il corso di iniziazione e previa valutazione degli istruttori, si può frequentare uno speciale corso di perfezionamento e un corso di pre-agonistica, con l’obiettivo di partecipare alle prime regate. Pacchetto Famiglia La Fraglia Vela Riva aderisce al progetto FAMILY, proponendo delle agevolazioni per quelle famiglie che vogliono imparare ad andare in barca a vela: due le proposte: a) per genitori che vogliono fare un corso insieme ai propri figli; b) per genitori che fanno il corso adulti e hanno uno o più figli iscritti alla scuola vela giovanissimi. Le agevolazioni variano a seconda del numero di genitori e di figli iscritti. Team building Per le aziende che vogliono offrire ai propri collaboratori un’esperienza formativa di “team building” la Fraglia Vela Riva propone per un numero massimo* di 15 persone le opzioni week end o “full day”. *per eventuali numeri maggiori sarà valutata la fattibilità. Children’s Sailing School Fraglia Vela Riva organizes courses for children from the age of 7 to 12 years and are designed for all youngsters who want to learn the ABCs of sailing. The courses are held over two consecutive weeks using the Optimist, considered the best craft for learning the art of sailing. Students who have completed the beginner’s course can, with the recommendation of their instructor, attend one of the specialist courses available. One for perfecting their skills and the other course to prepare students for their first Regatta.

SAILING SCHOOL Fraglia Vela Riva’s sailing school is organised and managed by federally qualified instructors who guarantee the highest quality of teaching and methodology in the instruction of all the various aspects of sailing and the mastery of handling boats for both cruising and racing. 2012 saw a large increase in enrolment in sailing courses, including the “sailing school” project which drew to the sport no less than 300 youngsters from the local schools. Details can be found in our folder (Sailing School) available in our administration office and also on our website www.fragliavelariva.it. Adults’ Sailing School A minimum age of 14 years is required to enrol in the adults’ school. Groups can be divided or enlarged according to demand. Courses are held on weekends, during the week and the also by the day. Practical lessons are on Laser Stratos or J 80.

Family friendly Fraglia Vela Riva offers 2 package deals for families who enjoy the pleasures of sailing: a) for parents who want to do a course together with their children b) for parents who are doing an adult course and have one or more children enrolled in the children’ sailing school. Team Building These courses are structured for businesses who want to provide staff development through “team building”. La Fraglia Vela Riva è da sempre una delle squadre più competitive dell’attività agonistica nazionale e internazionale giovanile; gli sforzi si sono concentrati in particolar modo nell’attività delle classi Optimist e Laser con una seria programmazione, che sta dando continui successi di squadra, oltre che dei singoli atleti. Nell’Optimist, come nel Laser, si registrano importanti vittorie; i principali obbiettivi per ogni classe e categoria sono stati sempre raggiunti: titoli italiani Optimist e Laser nelle varie categorie giovanili, medaglie di prestigio ai Campionati europei e mondiali a squadre Optimist, partecipazione alle Olimpiadi Giovanili. Nella classe olimpica Laser radial Joyce Floridia è attualmente la componente più giovane della squadra azzurra; Joyce nel 2013 si è laureata campionessa italiana Under 21 del singolo femminile olimpico. Le squadre pre-agonistiche e agonistiche sono impegnate circa 150 giorni l’anno tra allenamenti e regate.

LO STAFF TECNICO Lo staff tecnico della Fraglia Vela Riva è composto da istruttori federali, alcuni dei quali laureati in scienze motorie e sportive, per offrire agli allievi una formazione completa in merito alla disciplina, ponendo l’attenzione non solo agli aspetti tecnici e agonistici, ma anche alla postura e alla preparazione fisica adattata ad ogni età e disciplina. Mauro Berteotti segue in particolar modo le squadre agonistiche e pre-agonistiche della classe Optimist, coadiuvato da Santiago Lopez. La classe Laser è seguita da Fabio Zeni, ex atleta dell’olimpico 470, e ora concentrato come allenatore nel singolo Laser. La classe 29er è seguita da Lavinia Tezza, ex atleta 29er e attuale regatante nell’olimpica 49er FX Partecipano alla crescita agonistica di tutte le squadre altri ragazzi nel ruolo di “aiuto istruttore” come Alessio Spallino e Tomas Lopez.

COMPETITIVE TEAMS Fraglia Vela Riva has always had one of the most competitive juvenile teams in the national and international racing circuit, in particular with the Optimist and Laser classes. The athletes, in both team and singles, continue to have great success thanks to the intensive, training programme in place. National Optimist and Laser Championships, medallists in European and World Team Championships and representation in the Juvenile Olympics. In the Laser Radial Olympic class,Joyce Floridia is the youngest member of the national team. In 2013 she was crowned National Under 21 Champion in the Women’s Olympic Class. The pre-competitive and racing teams are kept busy for around 150 days of the year between training and regattas.

COACHING STAFF The coaching staff at Fraglia Vela Riva is comprised of federally qualified instructors some of which have degrees in physical education and sports science to give students an all-round training worthy of the sport. Attention is focused on the technical and racing aspects of the sport as well as on posture and overall physical preparation all adapted according to age and discipline. Mauro Berteotti oversees the Optimist racing and pre-racing teams assisted by Santiago Lopez. Fabio Zeni looks after the Laser class. A former competitor himself on the 470 Olympic class, Fabio now focuses his attention on coaching the Laser single. The 29er class is coached by Lavinia Tezza, a former 29er athlete herself who now competes on the Olympic 49er Fx Completing the coaching team are assistants Alessio Spallino and Tomas Lopez.

TRAINING - HOSPITALITY La Fraglia Vela Riva è ben felice di poter ospitare i Team e/o gli Atleti che desiderano sfruttare le ventose condizioni del Garda Trentino per svolgere sessioni di allenamento, sia per le squadre giovanili, che per quelle olimpiche. Per offrire il miglior servizio possibile, senza creare disagi ad eventuali attività contemporanee (regate, attività didattiche del circolo, allenamenti e attività sociali) tutti i coach, le squadre e gli atleti, che desiderano fare base alla Fraglia Vela Riva sono pregati di inviare per tempo la richiesta, compilando l’apposito modulo “Hospitality Form”, disponibile on line (www.fragliavelariva.it/training/hospitality-form). Si invita inoltre a prendere visione del “regolamento di ospitalità” e delle dotazioni di sicurezza previste per i gommoni di assistenza, che eventualmente sono disponibili al club per chi ne avesse bisogno (vedi punto 8 e 9 del regolamento). Fraglia Vela Riva is more than happy to be able to host teams and/or athletes who wish to take advantage of the windy conditions to train on Trentino Garda. So, in order to provide the best possible service and to avoid coinciding with other events, (e.g. regattas, club instructional activities, training and social events), we ask that all coaches, teams and athletes who wish to base themselves at Fraglia Vela Riva, to make their request at the earliest by compiling the “Hospitality Form”. This will be answered within the shortest possible time. In addition, we also ask you to take note of the “Hospitality Rules” and the safety equipment requirements for rubber dinghies in assistance. Upon prior request to the club secretary, and in accordance with the terms and conditions provided by the secretary, individual athletes and teams can take part in Fraglia Vela Riva’s Optimist and Laser pre-competative and competative training sessions as “aggregates”.

VELA D’ALTURA OPEN-SEA SAILING

Non solo derive e attività rivolte ai giovanissimi alla Fraglia Vela Riva, ma anche regate pensate per chi ama veleggiare con gli amici, in famiglia o con un agguerrito equipaggio a bordo di una bella barca d’altura. L’ormai storica Nastro Azzurro, la Transbenaco e la Fraglia Cup - Campionato d’altura dell’Alto Garda, un circuito di 10 tappe che si svolge da primavera ad autunno, sono gli eventi che arricchiscono il calendario d’altura 2014. Una serie di regate che coinvolgono gli armatori di tutto il lago di Garda e che di anno in anno ha una partecipazione sempre più appassionata e qualificata. Non da meno il porto ristrutturato, che dà la possibilità di ospitare i partecipanti in una location sicuramente suggestiva.

As well as all the activities for youngsters, Fraglia Vela Riva also organises events for those who enjoy sailing with friends, family or with a trained crew on board a beautiful open-sea boat. The events enriching the opensea calender for 2014 are the now historic Nastro Azzurro (Blue Ribbon), The Transbenaco and The Fraglia Cup - a championship for open-sea sailing in Upper Garda with a circuit of 10 legs and which takes place from Spring to Autumn. Boat-owners from all over Lake Garda take part in these regattas and year after year they become more and more enthusiastic and skilled. The newly re-structured harbour gives us the opportunity of accommodating the participants in a truly picturesque setting.

La Fraglia Vela Riva ha in concessione dalla Provincia Autonoma di Trento lo specchio acqueo antistante il circolo, con un centiaio di posti barca disponibili per l’ormeggio delle barche a bulbo e d’altura nei due moli più esterni. Ci sono altresì ulteriori cinquanta posti anche nell’area appena ristrutturata della Spiaggia degli Ulivi. Previo contatto con la segreteria del circolo anche chi proviene dal basso lago per una veleggiata con la propria barca può sostare qualche giorno, potendo godere naturalmente dei servizi del club. Possiblità per ormeggi stagionali.

Fraglia Vela Riva has in concession from the Provincia Autonoma di Trento the stretch of water directly in front of the club, which provides 100 berth places for inshore and offshore boats on the two outer piers. Another fifty spaces are available on the newly restructured “Spiaggia degli Ulivi” (olive tree beach), which is exclusively reserved for race participants. In addition to seasonal berthing, Fraglia Vela Riva also has rates for whoever wants to berth for only a few days, where they are welcome to enjoy all the facilities and services the club offers.

Venti Prevalenti: ÒRA: Il caratteristico vento che giunge da sud intorno a mezzogiorno fino al calar del sole e che proprio nella “race area” ha un’accelerazione delle raffiche, che soprattutto d’estate possono raggiungere anche i 20-24 nodi per l’effetto “Venturi” che si crea nel restringimento del lago, nella parte più a nord del Garda. VENTO: Il “vento” proviene da nord e solitamente inizia a soffiare di notte

dopo mezzanotte per andare in calare dopo metà mattinata. Acqua piatta e vento piuttosto rafficato le condizioni che si incontrano con le regate che si programmano la mattina presto con questo vento, che in condizioni perturbate può soffiare anche tutto il giorno.

Prevailing winds: ÒRA: A typical wind from the south which picks up around midday dropping at sunset. During summer it can bring gusts of around 20 -24 knots to the race area causing the “venturi” effect by funnelling into the narrowest and most northerly part of Lake Garda. Wind speed 14 – 24 knots VENTO: This wind blows in from the north usually around midnight dropping mid-morning. Early morning regattas usually find still waters and gusty winds that can continue for most of the day. Wind speed 10 - 16 knots

LEGENDA 1 - ÒRA: Blows in from the south around noon and dies down at sunset. 2 - PELÉR (SUER or TRAMONTANA): Picks up after midnight and drops around noon. It is preceded by a dead- calm. Extremely dangerous. 5 - BOAREN: A light breeze that blows from the Valle di Salò on summer evenings. 6 - VINEZZA: A very strong ÒRA in the southern part of the lake. Warns of bad weather ahead. 7 - MONIGA: Light breeze that blows on warm s ummer nights on Manerba Bay. 8 - FASANELLA: Light breeze that blows after the ÒRA on clear days.

Grazie alle generose condizioni di vento presenti sul Garda Trentino e allo staff tecnico della Fraglia vela Riva che sa interpretare il tempo e di conseguenza gestire gli orari di regata nei momenti più favorevoli, la percentuale di regate effettivamente disputate, su quelle programmate è altissima. Raramente si è arrivati in un’intera stagione a non disputare oltre le 5 prove, rispetto al numero totale di regate programmate (solitamente 180-190 prove di regata all’anno, su una media di 100 giorni di attività). Un dato di fatto che permette ai regatanti di affrontare trasferte anche impegnativa, con la sicurezza di regatare ai massimi livelli, in condizioni di vento sempre ottimali. Due to the excellent wind conditions found on Lake Garda, Trentino and the skills of the technical staff of Fraglia Vela Riva, who can interpret the weather conditions and plan the regattas accordingly, the percentage of actual races completed is very high. In fact there has rarely been a time in the entire season when more than 5 races haven’t been completed in respect to the total number of regattas planned, (usually 180-190 a year on an average of 100 days of competition). A fact that makes it worthwhile for competitors to make the journey and effort knowing that they will be competing at the maximum level in the very best of wind conditions.

“WALK OF PONALE” GPS departure point: 45°883163’N-010°838485’ E Departure: Riva del Garda Hydroelectric Power Station Arrival: Pregasina Head south from the Riva del Garda Hydroelectric Power Station until you come to the start of the path on your right just before the tunnel. This trail winds along overlooking the lake and there are spectacular views around every bend. WALK BUSATTE - TEMPESTA GPS departure point 45°869257’N- 010°876522’ E Departure: Busatte- Torbole sul Garda Arrival: Tempesta From the heart of Torbole sul Garda the road climbs to Parco delle Busatte. From the Park’s grassy area we head off for a spectacular hike along the Busatte–Tempesta trail, a nature route overlooking the lake which winds for 4 km and includes flights of metal stairs with a total of 400 steps. The route is mostly level with two climbs: Corno di Bò and Salt de la Cavra.

EAST AND WEST GARDA STATE ROADS You can watch the regattas by travelling south along the Garda state roads which follow the two shores of the lake. If travelling by bicycle, please keep in mind the danger due to heavy traffic and the fact that there are no bike lanes on these roads. Cars can use restricted areas if parking becomes a problem.

PREGASINA (about 20’) For those who have little time to spare and don’t want to miss the breathtaking view around the regatta course, take the road out of Riva del Garda towards Val di Ledro. After the exit for the second long tunnel, turn left and at the junction take the road for Pregasina. This road takes you towards the lake and after going through a short tunnel you arrive at the panoramic area which has parking nearby.

Garda Trentino Olympic Week 6th - 10TH May

Per la prima volta a Riva del Garda un evento mondiale riservato ai Topper, scafi molto resistenti progettati dall’inglese Ian Proctor nel 1977. Il suo nome deriva da “top”, il tetto della macchina, su cui può essere facilmente sistemato lo scafo. Diffusa soprattutto tra i giovani e principianti è un singolo seguito in particolar modo in Gran Bretagna. For the first time at Riva del Garda a world championship is being held exclusively for the Topper. This highly resistant skiff was designed by Ian Proctor of Great Britain in 1977. Its name derives from “top”, the car roof, o n which the skiff can be easily placed.

WORLD TOPPER CHAMPIONSHIPS 18TH - 24TH JULY

Doppio giovanile (dai 13 ai 17 anni) in cui Gran Bretagna e Australia fanno la parte del leone. Pressochè sconosciuto in Italia richiamerà regatanti da tutto il mondo. This juvenile doubles event (13- 17 years) is almost unknown in Italy, but it draws participants from all over the world with Great Britain and Australia making up the lion’s share.

Il D-One, progettato dall’argento olimpico Luca Devoti (Finn, Sydney 2000), è una barca a dir poco spettacolare, quanto fisica e tecnica. Una grande randa e una terrazza, rendono il D-One molto tecnico di bolina e un siluro al lasco con il grande gennaker, che spinge questa deriva innovativa, ma allo stesso tempo legata agli aspetti più puri delle derive olimpiche Finn e Laser, a velocità notevoli. After organising the Gold Cup in 2011, the D-One dinghies, created by Olympic silver medallist Luca Devoti, return to Fraglia and Riva del Garda for their European Championships. High performing upwind and fast paced downwind make the winged D-One a very spectacular modern dinghy.

This new generation skiff, which is popular mostly in Great Britain and Australia, promises to put on a show. Edgy and very fast ( with speeds reaching 20 knots), it has a gennaker of 15m2. The new World Champion of this class will be crowned right here on Lake Garda, Trentino!

European Yngling Springtime Championships 30th aprile 3rd may Una classe, quella Yngling, diffusa soprattutto in Olanda, ma che non vuole rinunciare al suo Campionato Europeo di Primavera sullâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Alto lago di Garda per le sue eccellenti condizioni. Un appuntamento fisso per una trentina di equipaggi (3 velisti per ciascuna barca) provenienti da Olanda, Germania, Svizzera, Austria, Slovenia, Danimarca e Svezia.

This popular class in The Netherlands always holds its European Springtime Championships on Upper Lake Garda for its excellent sailing conditions. This is a set date for around thirty crews (3 per boat), from The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Denmark and Sweden.

European International 14’ Championships 14TH - 16TH MAY The International 14’ Class usually competes at the historic Riva Cup, but this year they will hold their European Championships during a highly intense three day event. The double skiff confirms its boom in popularity among the skiffs because of its acrobatics and speed and is always entertaining to watch especially in the medium-strong wind conditions of Lake Garda, Trentino.

La Classe Internazionale 14’ è solita partecipare all’ormai storica Riva Cup, ma quest’anno disputerà il Campionato continentale di classe per una tre giorni molto intensa. Melges 20 Audi-Tron Sailing Series - EVENT N°3 30TH - 31TH MAY After the spectacular World Championships organised by Fraglia Vela Riva last year, the Melges 20 returns to Riva for the third of six events on the class’s European Tour. This is the smallest of the Melges fleet with a crew of three men on board (4 in case of lightweights), and is increasingly making strides on the International racing scene.

Last year this beautiful fleet treated us to a spectacular European Championship and this year the Melges 32 returns with the hope of reliving the sensations of sailing on Lake Garda, Trentino, which never disappoints sailors whether professional or amateur.

J 70 Eurocup 9th-12th september Fraglia Vela Riva has believed in the J70 monotype right from the start enough to put a leg of the Europacup on the calendar for the past two seasons. This excellent skiff was voted among the best boats of 2013 and is enjoying a real boom in the U.S. This year we should also see a solid and well-trained fleet here in Europe after the European Championships held last year at our club.

La Fraglia Vela Riva ha fin da subito creduto nella classe monotipo J70, tanto da mettere a calendario già da un paio di stagioni una tappa dell’Eurocup di questo ottimo scafo votato tra le migliori barche del 2013. Vero e proprio boom negli USA quest’anno anche in Europa dovrebbe regatare una flotta consistente e agguerrita dopo il Campionato Europeo disputato lo scorso anno presso il nostro circolo.

Trofeo ITAS team Race Club Champions Cup 25th-27th SEPTEMBER Una nuova manifestazione a cui la Fraglia Vela Riva crede molto e che vuole diventare un appuntamento fisso della vela giovanile internazionale: un Trofeo a squadre Optimist, che offre spunti agonistici e tattici incredibili, come visto al Mondiale di classe disputato a Riva del Garda un paio di anni fa.

This is a new event which Fraglia Vela Riva believes in very much and hopes will become a fixture for international juvenile sailing. This is an Optimist team competition which offers racing sprints and incredible tactics as was witnessed at the World Optimist Championships at Riva del Garda a couple of years ago.

29er Eurocup 29th october - 1ST november The Riva leg of the 29er Eurocup is the twelfth and last of the European Tour which has also been hosted by Spain, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Slovenia and Switzerland. The 29er dinghy is geared towards young sailors in preparation for the 49er Olympic class. The 29er Eurocup at Riva del Garda is the only Italian leg on the tour and is becoming increasingly more international with a steadily growing number of participants.

La tappa rivana della 29er Eurocup Ă¨ la dodicesima e ultima del Circuito Europeo, che si disputa tra Spagna, Francia, Olanda, Germania, Gran Bretagna, Slovenia e Svizzera. Il 29er Ă¨ uno skiff rivolto soprattutto ai giovani, propedeutico alla classe olimpica 49er. In order to attract Russian sailors to the shores of Lake Garda,Trentino, Fraglia Vela Riva has put at their disposal their own J80’s to use while training on the Team Race.

Poco prima del Garda Trentino Olympic Week la classe olimpica 470 italiana, disputa la terza regata nazionale del calendario di classe. Taking place just before the Olympic Trentino Garda event, the Italian 470 Olympic class will hold the third of the national regattas scheduled on the calendar.

Storica regata riservata alle classi Korsar e Dyas cresce di anno in anno offrendo uno spettacolo di colori. Una regata “turistica”, che coinvolge molti velisti europei, che abbinano allo sport velico una breve vacanza sul Garda Trentino. This historic regatta for the Korsar and Dyas classes grows larger every year and always treats us to a colourful spectacle. Considered a “tourist” regatta, it attracts many European sailors who come to enjoy the sport of sailing together with a short holiday on Lake Garda, Trentino.

Uno dei più importanti appuntamenti della vela d’Altura torna nell’inizio dell’estate per coinvolgere con sempre più entusiasmo chi ha una barca da crociera e da regata. E’ la 65esima edizione del Trofeo Nastro Azzurro! One of the most important dates for open-sea sailing returns in early summer. This event attracts enthusiasts with cruise and racing boats and this year celebrates the 65th edition of Nastro Azzurro Trophy!

TERRAMARE CUP 20th - 21ST juNE

Tornano i monotipi Ufo 22 per questo Circuito giunto alla quinta edizione, che raduna velisti che apprezzano le località scelte per ottime condizioni di vento e per ricettività turistica. The Ufo 22 monotype returns for the fifth edition of this competition bringing together sailors who appreciate the venue chosen for its excellent wind conditions and tourist facilities.

K6 EUROCUP 22th - 26th JUNE

I K6 tornano ogni due anni a Riva del Garda per una regata che è sì agonismo, ma anche vacanza e divertimento. Lo scafo di 19piedi ospita 3 persone d’equipaggio ed è seguito soprattutto da equipaggi inglesi, che a Riva del Garda trovano il posto ideale sia per la vela che per il turismo. The K6 returns every two years to Riva Del Garda for a regatta that means competition, holidays and fun. The 19 foot skiff accommodates a crew of three and is largely popular with the Brits who always find Riva del Garda the perfect spot for sailing and tourism.

Unica e prima regata in Italia di una classe diffusa soprattutto in USA, Australia, Canada e Gran Bretagna. il Viper 640 è definita come ottimo compromesso tra una deriva e uno scafo a bulbo e viene portata in regata normalmente da 3 uomini di equipaggio. This is the first and only regatta to be held in Italy for this class which is popular mostly in the U.S, Australia, Canada and Great Britain. The Viper 640 is described as being a perfect balance between a dinghy and a bulb keel boat and is normally raced by a three-man crew.

Intervela 7th - 9th july

La storica Intervela oltrepassata abbondantemente la boa della sessantesima edizione, vuole ripartire dai giovani e in particolar modo con quelli agguerritissimi della classe 420, che sia a livello maschile, che femminile conta una numerosa e qualificata partecipazione. The classic Intervela now well past its 60th edition, wants to restart with young sailors, in particular the boys and girls of the feisty 420 class which boasts a large and highly skilled participation.

Trofeo Paola 15th - 16th august

Il Trofeo Paola è un evento zonale in ricordo della socia Paola Di Iasio che richiama almeno un centinaio di Laser. E’ uno dei più importanti eventi di fine stagione per i giovani laseristi della Zona, nonchè per i circoli: la vittoria infatti viene assegnata al Club in base ai risultati dei due migliori atleti di ogni classe. The Paola Trophy is a local event held in memory of member Paola Di Iasio and brings together at least 100 Lasers. It is one of the most important end-of season events both for young area Laserist and the club. Victory is in fact assigned to the club based on the results of the two best athletes in each class.

LONGTZE REGATTA 4th - 6th SEPTEMBER

E’ da qualche anno che la coloratissima flotta Longtze ha scelto la Fraglia Vela Riva per regatare al meglio e godersi qualche giorno di vacanza facendo base logistica al circolo, che è a due passi dal centro storico. Quasi sette metri di lunghezza, diffuso tra Francia, Svizzera e Germania. The colourful Longtze fleet has been coming to race at Fraglia Vela Riva for a few years now always enjoying a few days holiday thanks to the location of the club just a stone’s throw from the old town of Riva. At almost seven metres in length, the Longtze is popular in France, Switzerland and Germany.

Torboli Trophy 17th - 18th october

Il Trofeo Ezio Torboli rappresenta per molti giovani timonieri l’ultima regata stagionale della Classe Optimist; da un paio d’anni è diventata una regata Internazionale a tutti gli effetti con una partecipazione straniera che è molto alta, proveniente da almeno 7 nazioni. For many young helmsmen the Torboli Trophy marks the end of the season for the Optimist class. Over the last couple of years it has developed into an international regatta with a very high foreign participation from no less than seven countries.

SUL TETTO DEL MONDO ON TOP OF THE WORLD Negli ultimi anni la Fraglia Vela Riva Ă¨ risultato essere il circolo velico che ha organizzato il maggior numero di regate a calendario ISAF al mondo. Una serie di regate Internazionali, che di stagione in stagione fanno risaltare la Fraglia tra i circoli piĂš attivi insieme ad altri prestigiosi club del pianeta, come la Societe des Regates Rochelaises di la Rochelle, lo yacht Club Argentino di Buenos Aires, la britannica Weymouth & Prtland National Sailing Academy e il Coconut Grove Sailing Club di Miami. Un primato che permette di avere numeri importanti rappresentati non solo da giorni di regata annui, ma anche dalla presenza di circa 5500 atleti provenienti da 60 nazioni, quasi 400 coaches per un totale di circa 45.000 presenze distribuite tra marzo e novembre.

90 In the last few years Fraglia Vela Riva has turned out to be the sailing club which has organised the largest number of ISAF regattas in the world. Season after season these international regattas have made Fraglia stand out as one of the most dynamic clubs in the world along with other prestigious clubs such as La Societe des Regates Rochelaises de la Rochelle, Yacht Club Argentino of Buenos Aires, Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and Coconut Grove Sailing Club of Miami. This record is not only represented in the number of regattas in the year but also by the attendance of around 5500 athletes from 60 different countries and almost 400 coaches for a presence of approximately 45,000 altogether during the period between March and November.
