Alina and Alyona are working on creation of handmade, one of a kind, authentic art doll and accessories. They use antique cloth, lace and findings and different vintage materials. Doll bodies are made of natural textile and filled with sawdust, for hair lamas fur is being used and natural leather for footwear. ‘AlinaAlyona’ participated in many doll shows and exhibitions. Kateryna Kalashnikova / Катерина Калашнікова Creative workshop “Amelie” A writer, an graphic designer, a master of designer’s dolls and teddy bears, the head of the creative workshop “Amelie”, an art-therapist, a coach on creative development, a professional dreamer, a traveller who is in love with life and journey. This is all about me. Doll creation became an important part of my life in 2009, and now it has been enthusiastic work and relaxation for my soul for already 8 years. I conduct master-classes. Among my own works you can find small souvenir fairies, classical frame statuary designer’s dolls, stylized boudoir dolls, interior toys, mobile teddy-dolls, teddy bears and fairy houses. All the dolls and teddy bears are unique and have no copies; they have a designer’s idea, some character, a passport and a cosy box. I adore experiments and combination of techniques in my work. I use mostly natural materials, vintage lace and accessories, pearls, amber, silver, wicker and hand-felt elements, various fabric and little things with history.

Лялькотворення стало важливою частиною мого життя у 2009 році, і ось уже 8 років для мене це натхненна робота і відпочинок для душі. Проводжу майстер-класи. Серед власних робіт: маленькі сувенірні феї, класичні каркасні статуарні авторські ляльки, стилізовані будуарні ляльки, інтер’єрні іграшки, рухомі лялечки «teddy-doll», ведмедики «teddy bear», казкові будиночки. Всі ляльки та ведмедики тедді створено в єдиному екземплярі, мають авторський задум, характер, паспорт та затишну коробку. В роботах обожнюю експерименти, поєднання технік, використовую переважно натуральні матеріали, вінтажне мереживо та аксесуари, перли, бурштин, срібло, плетені та валяні вручну елементи, тканини та дрібнички з історією.

I make dolls and toys in different techniques already more than 5 years. All doll components, clothing and shoes I make by my own hands. Each doll is unique in its kind. The size of a smallest doll is 2 cm and of a largest one is 85 cm. I am a member of the Ukrainian Branch of the Global Doll Society (GDS). I am a participant of numerous international exhibitions. My name is Varvara Lytik, Lytik is a surname rather than an alias :) I was born and raised in the wonderful country Ukraine, in the city of a million roses Donetsk. My work seems strange and amazing to many people, and my family call me Mom Carlo. I make author’s dolls, although I think that “make” it’s not quite the right word, rather create, as usually says my son, my most severe critic. I am doing what I love at the professional level for more than 7 years. You can write or call to me and I will make for you a collector’s doll. Doll can take any posture, hands and feet are mobile, you can comb its hair and do different hairstyles, is the author’s technology. I can send a doll abroad.

Мене звуть Варвара Лютик, Лютик це прізвище а не псевдонім :) Народилася і виросла в дивовижній країні Україна, в місті мільйона троянд Донецьку. То чим я займаюся, багатьом здається дивним, кому дивовижним, а мої близькі називають мене мама Карло :) Я створюю авторські ігрові ляльки, хоча створюю це не зовсім те слово, швидше творю, а часом витворяю, так зазвичай говорить мій син, мій найсуворіший критик. I have been creating designer’s ball-jointed dolls since 2010. I work with porcelain, and recently I have started using resin. My dolls are little models of people, they can adopt different poses of a human body. I make a very limited number of dolls copies; they often have a unique design, which will never be reproduced again. Every doll is not only the result of my hard work as a sculptor, a ceramicist, an artist, a hair stylist and a designer, but also a piece of my heart. It usually takes me over 1.5 month of daily work to create one porcelain doll. My works are in private collections all over the world.
З 2010 року я займаюся створенням авторської шарнірної ляльки. Працюю з порцеляною, а з недавніх пір, і з поліуретаном. Мої ляльки - це маленькі копії людей, з можливостями людського тіла приймати різноманiтнi пози. Я роблю ляльок дуже обмеженим тиражем, часто вони мають особливий дизайн, який ніколи не повториться. Кожна моя робота - це не тільки результат копіткої праці, моєї майстерності як скульптора, кераміста, художника, перукаря, дизайнера, але й частина моєї душі. На створення однієї порцелянової ляльки зазвичай йде від 1,5 місяців щоденної праці. Мої роботи знаходяться в приватних колекціях по всьому світу.
Anna Kovalska / Анна Ковальська My first doll was made in 2010. At first it was a pleasant hobby, since I still worked in an office then, in advertisement business. But then, in time, I became a freelancer and thus I released more time for creative work. My specialty is an illustrator. My dolls are the embodiment of some emotions, dreams, images that I am inspired by life and everything that surrounds me: people, books, works of art, nature, journeys and so on. My last doll is different from all previous ones. It is a completely non-traditional imaginary personage. I combined a female body and a guitar. This is a fantasy doll to remind the viewers of love and strings of soul, which we do not always listen to… In creation of dolls I use various materials: Paperclay, LaDoll, Fimo. I am going to create a doll series from Flumo. There are already some images in my mind. Now it is time to objectify these characters in figures of future dolls.
Свою першу ляльку я зробила в 2010 році. Спочатку це було приємним хобі, оскількі тоді я ще работала в офісі, в рекламному бізнесі. Потім, з часом – перейшла на фріланс і, таким чином, звільнила більше часу для творчості. За фахом я художник-ілюстратор. Мої ляльки – це втілення якихось почуттів, мрій, образів на які надихає життя та все, що мене оточує: люди, книги, витвори мистецтва, природа, подорожі, тощо. Моя остання лялька відрізняється від усіх попередніх. Це цілком нетрадиційна фантазійна лялька. Її незвичайність полягає в тому, що в форму жіночого тіла я вживила гітару. Ця лялькафантазія про любов, про струни душі, до яких не завжди є час прислухатися... Для створення ляльок використовую різні матеріали: Paperclay, LaDoll, Fimo. Планую зробити серію ляльок з Flumo. В голові вже вимальовуються деякі образи. Залишилося ці характери втілити в постаті майбутніх ляльок.

I have always been keen on dolls, but right now, when my children have grown up and I have grandchildren, I have an opportunity to create dolls myself. I think up fairy tale images and even real stories for them. I enjoy making ball-jointed dolls as well as renewing reborn dolls. I choose quality natural materials, clothes of the dolls can be taken off, the hair can be brushed, so you can not only feast your eyes but also play, change clothes and images. It is always pleasure for me to communicate with connoisseurs of a designer’s doll and a reborn doll!
Ляльок я любила завжди, але саме зараз, коли діти стали дорослими, і народилися онуки, у мене з’явилася можливість робити ляльок самій. Я придумую їм казкові образи і навіть цілі історії. Мені подобається робити шарнірних ляльок, подобається також відроджувати ляльок-реборнів. Матеріали я вибираю якісні і натуральні, одяг у ляльок знімається, волосся зачісуються, тож ними можна не тільки милуватися, але і грати, змінювати вбрання та образи. Завжди рада спілкуванню з поціновувачами авторської ляльки та ляльки-реборн!

Violetta Pavlenko / Віолетта Павленко I became keen on making designer’s toys and dolls in 2012. My sons had grown by then and their mum started playing with dolls. My creative development began from primitive techniques, but striving for growth and progress led me to mastering skills in various techniques (textile, felting and modelling). For me creation of toys and dolls is a journey to the world of beauty. While travelling you meet highwaymen and princesses, elves and monsters, as well as angels and just strange animals. I hope there are a lot of new impressions waiting for me in the future, and I will be glad to share them with you. I enjoy doing what I do.
Захоплення авторськими іграшками і ляльками прийшло до мене в 2012 році. Сини підросли, а мама почала грати в ляльки. Творчий шлях стартував з примітивів, а прагнення рости і розвиватися привело до навичок в різній техніці (текстиль, валяння, ліплення).Створення іграшок і ляльок для мене - ця подорож у світ прекрасного. My creative activity has begun in the distant 80-s when I was five years old, since I asked Santa Claus to bring me a sewing machine as a present. My wish was fulfilled, and my dolls started wearing haute couture clothes. All the dolls’ robes were made from my mother’s favourite dress. Then there was a break in my career. Now, being an adult, I still desire to make the whole world see my beautiful dolls. While creating every Fairy doll, like in my childhood, I make a wish. I wish peace in the whole world, I wish my relatives and everyone live long, happy and healthy lives. If you wish with all your heart, everything will come true for sure! Моя творчість почалася в далеких 80х, коли мені було 5 років. З того моменту, коли я попросила у Діда Мороза подарувати мені швейну машинку. Бажання він виконав і мої ляльки, почали одягатися «від кутюр». Все вбрання лялькам, було пошите з маминої улюбленої сукні. Потім у моїй кар’єрі настала перерва. Тепер я виросла, але моє бажання, щоб моїх красунь побачив весь світ — залишилося. I am a craftswoman doll maker. I live in Ukraine, in Prymorsk city situated on the coast of the gentle Sea of Azov. I have been creating my artworks since 2012, this occupation gives new meaning to my life, brings joy and a constant desire to create. I make vintage style dolls that have a magical look of antiquity. Most of my works are static, but I also produce boudoir dolls. To create dolls I use paper-mache as a basis and self-hardening clay for thin parts. Several times I have participated in international exhibitions, such as “Fashionable doll”, “Stylish doll” and have received awards. My works found their new homes in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Europe.
Я майстер-лялькар. Живу в Україні, в місті Приморське на березі ласкавого Азовського моря. Своєю улюбленою творчістю, яка наповнює моє життя певним сенсом, приносить радість і бажання постійно творити, займаюся з 2012 року. Роботи створюю в вінтажному стилі, який додає лялькам чарівну подобу старовини. Роботи мої в більшості статичні, але також я виготовляю будуарні ляльки. При виготовленні використовую папьемаше як основу, тонкі деталі з самозастигаючих пластиків. You might be asking how has a financial mathematician working for a successful multinational company for almost ten years become a doll maker? In my case, the reason for such change was the birth of my first baby. Art has always been a dear hobby of mine, and while on maternity leave, I found I needed to find an alternative to oil painting, which I spent many years working on before. This was when I discovered the amazing and beautiful world of doll making. What I truly love most about doll making is that I get to combine so many artistic skills at once! You need to be a sculptor to create the dolls body, a china painter to paint faces, a craftsman to put all 23 body pieces together with wire and industrial springs, a dressmaker to sew clothes, a hairstylist to make wigs and a jeweller to make beautiful flowers and butterflies of polymer clay, similar to those you see on pictures etc. I don’t aim to make dolls with exact physiological proportions and details, I’m not interested in creating identical replicas which would not be unique. For me, the main focus is the expression on my dolls faces, the aura of softness, purity and gentleness. I put my heart and soul into the creation of each and everyone of my dolls and I hope they bring joy to their new owners for many, many years.
Як фінансовий математик, який успішно працював майже десять років в крупній світовій компанії, вирішує стати лялькаркою? У моєму випадку, причиною такої глобальної зміни стало народження моєї першої дитинки. Я з раннього дитинства займалася живописом , але в декретній відпустці, мені знадобилася альтернатива у творчості. Так я відкрила для себе чарівний і дивний світ створення ляльки. Я люблю цю творчість перш за все тому, що вона різностороння. Щоб робити ляльку, ви повинні бути трохи скульптором, щоб моделювати ляльку. Художником, щоб малювати обличчя. Ремісником, щоб з’єднати всі 23 фарфорові частини ляльки стальними пружинами. Перукарем, щоб робити перуки. Кравцем, щоб шити костюми. Ювеліром, щоб робити прикраси, наприклад квіти та метеликів, які прикрашають ляльок на деяких представлених фотографіях. Я не прагну створювати ляльки з точними фізіологічними подробицями і пропорціями. Це нудно і не цікаво, як не цікаві картини, що являють собою точні копії фотографій. Головне для мене в моїх дівчатках - погляд, загальне враження чистоти, ніжності і жіночності. Я вкладаю душу в кожну ляльку, опрацьовую з любов’ю кожну деталь і сподіваюся, що вони принесуть радість їх новим опікунам на довгі роки.

Як професійний історик, я могла б розповісти вам про тисячолітню історію ляльки, про її дивовижний шлях від сакрального предмета до побутового, а потім перехід її до рангу арт-мистецтва. Але не буду. Як майстер-лялькар знаю — лялька це диво! А диво не піддається правилам і законам, в нього потрібно просто вірити. Лялька така знайома і така таємнича... Вона провідник у світ казки, населений радістю та світлом. У світ нашого дитинства, з його естетикою наївності і віри в чудеса. У світ, де саме неможливе стає можливим і здійснюються будь-які мрії. I have been a reborn doll artist since 2012. During this time more than 200 works appeared in my workshop. A reborn doll is a designer’s doll created on the bases of a factory mold kit, its appearance amazingly resembles an alive baby. The main task for me is not just reach maximum resemblance and successfully paint vinyl parts, but endow my creation with a real doll’s soul! Each of my dolls is unique! Even if it is made in imitation of the previous one, it is different anyway, with its own peculiarity, the only one in the whole world! These days my «babies» live in different families in different parts of the world, but every time they take away a piece of my heart.
Художник реборніст (reborn doll artist) з 2012 року. За цей час в моїй майстерні з’явилося більше 200 робіт. Reborn doll — авторська лялька, створена на основі фабричної заготовки (Молда(kit)), зовнішній вигляд якої максимально нагадує живу дитину. Основним завданням для мене є не лише досягнути максимальної схожості та перенести на вінілові частини вдало фарби, а й наділити своє творіння справжньою ляльковою душею! Кожна моя лялька — неповторна! Навіть, якщо вона робиться за прикладом попередньої, вона все одно інша, з властивою тільки їй родзинкою, єдина на весь світ! Сьогодні мої «малюки» живуть в різних родинах в різних куточках світу, та кожного разу забирають з собою частинку моєї душі.

And once I was given a wonderful gift for my 35th birthday — it was a funny reborn doll. Then I got acquainted with its designer. After some communication we became friends. The craftswoman promised to share her secrets. I have grown up in a creative family among paints, brushes, threads, patches of fabric, so I thought: why not? This rather complicated, durable, sometimes with unexpected surprises, laborious process appeared to be captivating. It is an incomparable feeling when featureless, blind mold turns into a real wonder in your hands, and it seems that the doll is going to blink and say something now… It is such a pity to part with my «babies», but I know for sure, that someone is waiting for them. For somebody my doll will become the implementation of a distant dream, and I feel as a real fairy presenting a fairy tale.
Кожна дитина має мрію. Я мріяла про німецького пупса розміром з немовля. Та це була дорога і дуже дефіцитна іграшка. Та якось на мій 35 рік народження отримала дивний подарунок — кумедну ляльку-реборн. Потім було знайомство з її автором. Поспілкувалися, потоваришували. Майстриня пообіцяла поділитися секретами. Виросла я у творчій родині серед фарб, пензлів, ниток, клаптиків тканини тому подумала: чому ні? Доволі складний, тривалий, копіткий, часом з непередбачуваними сюрпризами процес виявився дуже захопливим. Це ні з чим незрівнянне почуття, коли безлика, сліпа заготовка в твоїх руках перетворюється на справжнє диво і тобі здається, що лялька зараз кліпне очима і щось промовить… Так шкода розлучатися зі своїми «малюками», але я точно знаю, що хтось на них чекає. Для когось моя лялька стане втіленням давньої мрії і тому я відчуваю себе справжньою феєю, яка дарує казку.

Amulets A psychologist, a craftswoman creating dolls on the basis of authentic technologies with the use of natural materials. My Granny made dolls for me when I was a child (Kharkiv). The surge of interest in ethnic resource appeared at hard time of 2014, when I, as a volunteer-psychologist, went to the camps for internally displaced people from Donbas. For their production I use vintage plush and stuff them with sawdust. Carefully, in detail, I think over every image, then add accessories, which I also produce myself. Especially I enjoy sewing clothes and shoes for the little ones. Natural fabric and leather suit best of all for this. My teddy bears can be found in private collections not only in Ukraine, but in Russia and Israel, too. And they are willing to travel to other countries.

These miniature animals have become my real passion. The smallest teddy I have made is 4,5 cm tall so far, but it is not the limit – I am going to work on creation of even smaller ones. My toys are sewn from professional materials with the use of my own designer’s patterns, they are exceptionally handmade. I treat my little ones with great tenderness, so I don’t sew anything to them – both accessories and clothes can be taken off. All my little animals are created with great love and I hope that acquaintance with them will fill your hearts with joy and warmth.

How do you do! I am Svitlana Melobenska — a doll designer, a lecturer at the Art Subjects of Preschool and Primary Education Department at Mykhailo Kotsiubynskiy Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University, the author of books for kids about dwarfs and trolls, the head of the creative workshop «The Magic Sand». The dwarf with a red cap is made from white natural wool, there is a copper wire frame inside, clothes are from natural cotton and micro velvet fabric, natural lace and copper accessories complete the glamorous dwarf’s costume. The clothes cannot be taken off, the hair is made from wool and the eyes are plastic. Size: height – 50 cm, width – 15 cm. I met the Red Dwarf under a great oak in the forest; he was gathering acorns, that is why his name is Acorn. The doll is made using dry felting technique, its arms and legs are on splints, adjusted without glue, with the use of dry felting method. Thus the dwarf Acorn can move both his arms and legs, the doll can stand or sit. The trousers and the jacket are sewn from natural velvet, the shirt is silk, and the clothes cannot be taken off.

Лялька виконана у техніці сухого валяння,руки та ноги на шплінтовому кріпленні,прикріплені без використання клею, а методом сухого валяння. Тому гном Жолудь може рухати і ніжками і ручками, самостійно стояти чи сидіти. Штанці та піджачок з натурального оксамиту,сорочечка з шовку,одяг не знімається.

I have been creating fur toys since 2012. I like classical teddy bears. All works are of my own design and production. Only professional materials and natural fabric are used in my work. Wood wool, sawdust, hollow fiber and granulated material are used for stuffing. Besides teddy bears I create and other toys – hares, elephants, hippos and others. No smoking is allowed in the house where the toys are made. All my toys appeal to the child living in every adult. I hope you will like my works.
How do you do! I am Viktoriya, and I have an incredible hobby – it is creating dolls by hand. Everything started with the birth of my daughter. First, I began embroidering and making fabric development books for her. Later I took up knitting clothes, again for the daughter. About two years ago I saw the process of making a Teddy-doll by hand. I became interested and wanted to make such doll myself. If my first dolls were made with the use of other designers’ patterns, after some time I began to get creative and make dolls using my own patterns. I wanted them to be particular. Знайомтеся я Вікторія , і я маю неймовірне хобі — це виготовлення ляльок власними руками. Все почалося з народження донечки, спочатку я почала вишивати і виготовляти для неї розвіваючі книжки з тканини. Пізніше займалася в’язанням одягу, знову для дочки. Приблизно два роки тому побачила, як робити ляльку Тільду своїми руками. Мені стало цікаво, та самій захотілося зробити таку ляльку. Якщо перші ляльки я робила за чужими викрійками, то з часом почала проявляти свою фантазію і виготовляти ляльок за власними викрійками, щоб мої роботи залишатися індивідуальними. I started creating dolls about seven years ago. I have always dreamt of fathoming a mystery of artwork, of expressing everything that had long been inside of me – ideas, images, and emotions – by means of hand-made work. A fascinated personality I have been since childhood. I am a doctor by profession. When my first doll looked at me with its little embroidered eyes, I realized that the world around me had changed. Now it is like a fairytale, inhabited by amazing creatures – soft and cozy heroes. To create them, I need only knitting needles and yarn, and a little bit of inspiration and patience. Today, I found myself in creating toys and dolls by knitting, because when a new toy is born in my hands, the world smiles at me with toy’s smile. Ляльки я почала створювати близько 7 років років тому. Завжди мріяла осягнути таємниці творчості, виплеснути в рукодільні творіння все , що так довго збиралося всередині мене — ідеї, образи, емоції. З дитинства була захоплюючою натурою. По професії я лікар. Коли моя перша лялька подивилась на мене своїми вишитими оченятками, мені зрозуміло, що світ навколо змінився. Зараз він схожий на казку, де мешкають дивовижні створіння — м’які та затишні герої. Для створення їх мені потрібні лише спиці та пряжа, а ще трохи натхнення та терпіння. Сьогодні я знайшла себе в створенні іграшок і ляльок спицями, тому що, коли в моїх руках народжується нова іграшка, світ посміхається мені її посмішкою. The Shevchenko Prize Laureate. Merited Master of Folk Arts of Ukraine. Name of technique: «NEEDLE PAINTING». A master craftswoman has been embroidering since an early childhood and knows a lot of techniques. She has decorated clothing and household items. While improving her skills, she invented her own two- and three-layer embroidery, «Needle painting». The craftswoman uses various stitches – stem stitch, buttonhole stitch, satin stitch, Rococo, French knots, bulking. She combines threads of different structures, mostly uses mouline threads, acryl and silk. Thus, she stitches up cloth in several layers. The master works without any sketches, she paints with her needle. There are 223 expositions in her list, 61 of them are one-person exhibitions. Nina Goncharuk art works are in private collections in many countries.

Володіє багатьма техніками. Оздоблювала одяг та речі домашнього вжитку. Вдосконалюючи свою майстерність, винайшла власну техніку дво-і-три шарову вишивку «Живопис голкою». При цьому, використовуючи різні шви: стебловий, петельний, гладь, «рококо», «французький вузлик», формує об’єм. Поєднуючи нитки різної структури, в основному застосовує: муліне, акрил і шовк. Таким чином зашиває полотно у декілька шарів. Працює майстриня без ескізів, малює голкою. У списку майстрині — 223 виставки, із них 61 персональних. Мистецькі роботи Ніни Гончарук знаходяться у приватних колекціях в багатьох країн світу.

Since being a schoolgirl I have been fond of needlework: knitting, sewing and embroidery. But three years ago I saw some ribbon embroidery and was just amazed by the beauty of this art. A ribbon embroidery is always an exclusive piece of work. You can be 100% sure that your picture, being created in the technic of ribbon embroidery, is the only one in the whole world. It cannot be copied or reproduced. A ribbon embroidery work is a wonderful gift for any holiday and just as an expression of high regard to a dear person. My ‘golden rule’ is to embroider only in good mood, with bright thoughts and inspiration. I am convinced that my positive spirit is passed through the pictures and you will feel it by all means.

She practices embroidery, beadwork, and doll-making, conducts master classes and continues to study and improve her skills. In 2015 she obtained the title of the master of folk art of Ukraine. In 2016 she completed her second education in Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts with the speciality “Decorative and applied arts. The craftswoman participates in all-Ukrainian exhibitions. Her works are kept in Mykolaiv Regional Museum of Local History and private collections in Ukraine, Australia, France, and Israel.

Kamila Saadat is a craftswoman from Crimea. Her dream is to create clothes that fit so well that one can forget about them and admire the world around us. She is inspired by literature, paintings, antique photographs and folk costumes. Kamila is known for her ability to repair traditional vintage clothes and turn them into modern ones. This direction was chosen in order to bring back women to beautiful era and to revive the tradition of the great luxury. Her line of dance costumes for the Crimea ensemble is particularly famous. The works of the craftswoman are kept in private collections and at the Dovzhenko film studio. It is quality, comfort, proportions and belonging to traditions that make clothing attractive. Playful mixture of styles and patterns in clothes ethnic elements make them especially charming. In her art work Kamila prefers muted but rich colors and knows how to show beauty austerely.
