ABOUT ME
I grew up in Germany but have been travelling for the past few years, where I developed my passion for design and architecture. This led me to enter the Bachelor Program of Interior Architecture at the Marbella Design Academy. I’m looking forward to my second year and can´t wait to see what´s to come.

The following pages will give you a good insight into my progress over the last year. It´s been just about 9 months of intense interior architecture at the Marbella Design Academy. A lot of though, work and excitement went into these projects and I hope the final outcode reflects the efforts. This portfolio is arranged reversed, so you can view my latest projects first and see how I developed my skills and achieved a better understanding of design over time.

BRIEF
The brief is to design the interior of a small loft Apartment in the Spanish town of Monda that is meant for an artist of our choice. It is important that the design fits the client’s needs and serves as well as a place to present the artist´s work to others. We are asked to embrace our creativity and not to use conventional furniture but think outside the box and create a new and innovative structure to have a functional and comfortable living space that suits the client.

SITE A N A LYS I S
The given space is a rather small loft apartment with lots of sunlight and many windows. The main living space is the largest room, while the bed and the bathroom are two rooms that are quite equally sized. After entering you will find the bathroom to your right and a wall with 4 windows to your left. The living rooms also includes several pillars which are bearing and can not be moved.

A S M A L L S PA N I S H TOW N
Monda is a charming, typically Spanish village in Andalusia. It has many beautiful small squares, restaurants and bars with narrow streets, small white houses, surrounded by hills covered with olive and fig trees, rocks and agaves. It is the perfect place to explore hidden trails and constantly discovery new beautiful aspects of living in this town. Even though Monda feels like an idyllic place on earth, it is well connected to tourist destinations such as Marbella, Malaga and Gibraltar, making it cultural interesting and giving you a high standard of living.

Monda Skyline
Spain has the greatest variety of architecture in Europe because of its history. Moors conquered Spain in 711 and exerted a very strong influence on Spanish architecture. Their influence was to make architecture more ornamental. Gothic architecture in Spain was more decorative than Gothic architecture in other European countries because many Moorish features were added. This happened also with Renaissance architecture and Baroque architecture. Even today it is exerting its influence in many modern buildings.
S PA N I S H H I S TO RY & ARCHITECTURE Monda itself strongly shows traces of Moorish architecture since it has been inhibited by Arabic culture for many centuries. The old castle of Monda, for example, is fully decorated with original Islamic interior design. The layout of the tows is arranged as that of an Arabic village and full of fountains, a church that once has been a mosque and so on.
PAG E
Since the historical influence should always be considered when designing a space, I took a walk around Monda and looked for inspiration for my design.

MY CLIENT
LENNY KRAVITZ
Grammy Award-winning rock musician Lenny Kravitz was born on May 26, 1964, in New York. He made the albums Let Love Rule, Mama Said and Are You Gonna Go My Way. Lenny also worked as an actor in films such as Precious and The Hunger Games. Even after hitting the age 50, Lenny is busy writing new songs, working on film projects and hanging out with his 25-year old daughter Zoe Kravitz. He is known as one of the most fashionable rockstars of his time. He is known as the most stylish rockstar of his time. Even though being straight, the artist doesn’t shy away from feminine styles and embracing it with his masculine attitude. Lenny Kravitz owns several homes all over the world, one of them being Paris, the Bahamas and a recently a fully renovated coffee farm in Brasil. He commutes between those places according to his busy schedule.
PAG E

LENNY´S WORK & LIFE Lenny´s grandfather grew up in the Bahamas which is why he has a strong conncetion to the peaceful and simple life in the tropics. In fact he has a camping trailer on the beach of a small bahamic island, where he spents most of his free time. He is using the calm lifestyle to reflect and to get new inspiration for his music. Besides working in the media industry, Lenny has founded a interior design firm calles “Kravitz Design”, since he always has been very interested in designing homes. He even created some furniture pieces, such as carpets and pillows with aztec patterns.
THE FL AT´S PURPOSE
To provide a useful space for Lenny the apartement can be used as a hidden get-away. Here he can clear his mind and concentrate on writing songs. He will be also needing space to sleep, eat, dress and to have friends and family visit. To show them his progress in creating music the apartement can transform into a fully operating “concert hall”. Of course in a small scale, however, there will be a stage, instruments, lights and speakers.
PAG E
To design a space that space that Lenny will feel comfortable in, I will incooperate his humble life phylosophy, get inspired by his previous home designs for himself and his interior firm as well as focus on creating a place that reflects his personality.

CONTRAST 8
PAG E
MY CONCEPT
Lenny Kravitz keeps on saying in interviews how his life is full of contrast and that he would be thiving on contrast. This gave me the idea of using “contrast as the concept for my deign.

When I first thought about contrast, I wasn´t yet clear on how I could possibly get inspired by such a vague word. I was worried not to have enough to work with and end up with something that has not enough relation to my concept at all. However, the more I thought about it, the more I ideas I got on how I can successfully incorporate it into the architectural design. I found many ways how I can build contrast withing design and therefore will introduce you to some of them here.
The design is all about contrast, which is the reason that I divided the mood board into two parts. Each showing contrasting images to the other. However, the outcome should be well balanced and steadied design.

LENNY´S HOME DESIGN
I took inspiration from areas that play a big role in Lenny´s life so that the flat can match his personality and fully embrace his lifestyle. Those are music and instruments, his own home designs, his love for a bohemian way of living, personal and meaningful items and the appreciation of art and nature.

MATERIALS
PAG E
When looking at materials used in previous home designs of Lenny Kravitz, I found that he is working a lot with natural stone, such as marble, but also wood, golden and silver metal details, brass, dark wall paint, leather and fabrics with different patterns and textures. Since the flat should be matching his style, I would like to use those materials as well. However, I will also include acrylic glass, fabric or PU leather with different patterns, golden stainless steel, marble, graphic wallpaper, wood or concrete.
15
STRUCTURE MODIFIC ATIONS When having a look at the structure, there are a few things that I would like to modify. Since the ramps are quite long and take up a lot of space I am planning on rising the floor 40cm. This will shorten the ramps and also allow space for a new plumping and electricity installation on preferred locations. There will be some stairs behind the entrance door. The other benefit from that is the possibility to create different levels in the floorplan. I will be going into details about this later. Another change will be made for the bedroom. Here I would like the wall to be taken down since this will open up the space and create a modern loft apartment.
PAG E
16
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT Before starting the design, I looked closely at the given space, it´s dimensions, floorplan, doors, windows and distribution of fixed construction pillars since all of these elements play a roll in the logistic of the design. I created a bubble diagram, to get a better understanding of how the interior space is best to distributed.
S PAT I A L PLANNING
Bathroom
Entrace
Instrument area
With this diagram, it was easier to think about and design each individual part or even combining some of them to create multifunctional furniture pieces that have more than one purpose. Besides that, I decided on doing some changes to the non-bearing interior walls. The red lines show, where those walls should be taken down. Another major change should be made to the main floor. I would like to elevate it 43cm since this allows me to have different levels in the living room, install water pipes and electricity in any preferred location and the ramp, will not be as steep anymore, which aesthetically is overall softer and less irritating to the eye.

SKETCHES
My inspiration and mood board gave many ideas for shapes and structures. This allowed me to come up with some unique furniture ideas, which I started sketching out and developing from then on. I will start by introducing some of my sketched ideas and then later I am going into detail and explaining the development and function of each component of the interior that I have designed.
PAG E
18
PAG E
I created a distribution of my interior in the way I previously explained in the bubble diagram. I believe that this is the best distributed since I have considered focal points, practicality, aesthetics and overall logic of the existing space (pillar, ramp, windows etc.)
19
BEDROOM The bed is a structure, that basically only consists of a circle, however, the circle has been stretched from the middle on. This creates a long stretched box with rounded end sites. It is supposed to be an abstract shape that is both a circle and a rectangular box which are two contrasting shapes.
COMBINING CONTRASTING SHAPES
To design a bed from this shape I made it fit the room and have corners on the transition from floor to wall and wall to ceiling. The nestling frame creates a sense of safety and cosiness, which is since it is a place to sleep, a very important part of a bed. I also will add a picture of Lenny´s mother in the bedroom since according to him, she has to be always present in each of his homes in the form a large picture on the wall. On top of that, I would like to add lamps design that used to be popular in the ‘80s in the USA, since he is known as a popular singer from that era.
PAG E

KITCHEN DESIGN When thinking about kitchens, the first idea that got in my mind were drums, as they have these round plattforms, that remind me of a typical kitchen stove top. From sketching drums and thingking about their shape and components, I came up with a design for the sink and stove, that funktions just like a normal kitchen, has however a completely new design and different look.
A KITCHEN INSPIRED BY DRUMS
The cook top is made from golden stainless steel.
PAG E
For the base I chose green marble, since this is an elegant and natural stone, that is accosiated with kitchen counter tops.

THE STOVE
The stove is shaped as a simple cylinder, that is hollow inside, allowing enough space for a gas bottle, burner and the pilot flames, that are arranged in several circles to create even heat on the whole cooking top.

PAG E
The sink will be shaped as a cone, being supported by three golden metal feets, which also serve as water drainage pipes, that connect to the main pipes in the floor. This hidden feature will give the illusion from the outside, as having no drainage at all, which creates a certain degree of interest to the eye and mind.
A NEW KITCHEN CONCEPT “The Bare Kitchen” is a new concept of kitchen design. Is it inspired by the origin of cooking, when the only two necessary parts for food preparation were fire and water - the bare basics of cooking. Taking this further, I developed a minimalistic design that is offering the essentials of cooking in a modern and stylish creation. This kitchen is meant for people, who love being reminded of the human origins and don’t mind giving up some comfort in order to be closer to our roots. Although being fully functional this kitchen is not meant to replace modern advances kitchen. I can see this kitchen as a commercial product, that is mainly used for small studio apartments, as an outdoor BBQ/kitchen or for opulent camping places.

The concept is named “The Bare Kitchen” and could potentially serve a new market.

SEATIN G AREA
2. SECOND
The seating area will be a multifunctional item, which can transform into a proper stage, where Lenny can perform and practise for bigger concerts. My idea was to use the shape of the guitar as the inspiration for the couch which led me to my first initial design proposal. It is a curved bench, that looks just like one side of the body of an acoustic guitar.
PAG E
1. I N I T I A L I D E A
25
Since my first approach was too literal and had not much to do with my concept of contrast, I decided to explore my options further. Instead of going for the curved shape I started to redefining it to an angular one.
3. DEVELOPMENT Since I was happy with the angular shape, I continued to develop a couch that is comfortable and functional by adding circular shapes onto the existing line.
4. FINAL PROPOSAL
I integrated some steps which allow easy access to the seating area since it is sunken in the floor. The couch, however, has another purpose. It can be pulled up to the ceiling, which created a large empty area that can be used as a stage. The couch has a light fixture on the bottom, which serves as stage lighting.

The final proposal for the couch design is an unique shape that consistes of several circles which are following the shape of a guitar. Perspective view

26
FIREPL ACE
The structure will be made with golden stainless steel.
PAG E
The couch I designed has many curves and circular shapes. For this reason, I chose to create a contrasting fireplace design that is symmetric and inspired by geometric Aztec patterns, which Lenny has been using mainly for his own pillow & carpet collection.
27
A Z T E C PAT T E R N S IN FURNITURE DESIGN
There will be two fireplaces next to each other, with a small golden bench connecting the two. To underline the symmetry the backlash will be a marble stone slaps which are arranged in a way that they create a symmetric pattern.
The left side of the marble backsplash is separate and serves as a hidden door, leading to a narrow closet behind the seating area. This way it becomes easily accessible for Lenny and he can quickly get ready in the walk-in closet before his performances.

PAG E
28
MUSIC AREA As Lenny is a successful musician I would like to provide a functional music area, that can store his instrument collection. I want them to be presented a unique and appealing way since Lenny is very passionate about his instruments.
PAG E
I decided to create a screen wall with some typically Mudejar patterns that can hold guitars, a keyboard and more. This wall will be movable thanks to a rail in the ceiling and floor. This way he can easily transport the instruments to the stage/seating area or have them in front of the bathroom where they are “stored away. The movable wall also acts as a screen to provide privacy in the bedroom if needed and it can also be a railing so that wheelchair users can safely use the ramps.
29
I, therefore, looked at sitting in a very simple way. All we need is some sort of platform that ideally is soft so it is more comfortable. At the same time, the sitting location should always be a choice and I want people to be able to sit wherever they want. This gave me the idea of creating simple spheres that are soft to sit on but strong enough to stay in their shape. They will be covered with either leather or some robust fabric. The round shape will allow the chairs to be very easily moved around and in case wheelchair users are living in the space it will also make it easier for them to push them out of their way when moving throughout the apartment.
30
PAG E
THE CHAIRS
Instead of having conventional chairs in the space, I thought about a new approach to seating. Since it was clear in the brief that we should design innovative and multifunctional furniture pieces, I thought about how a chair can become more than just a seating option.
EXPERIMENTING
& FINALIZING T o communicate design, I am using a 3ds modelling program called “3Ds Max” which allows me to virtually build my design and see how it is going to look like in real life. The program is of course very useful to show my designs to others but can also be used to experiments with different shapes, colours, lighting, materials and interior distribution. When working with the program, I´ve got some more ideas, designed some lamps and further developed the interior space.
The table will be made from clear acrylic glass, which can be lit with some LED´s and therefore even act as a lighting source and eye-catching piece.
Next to the bed will be a photograph of Roxie Roker, which is Lenny´s mother.
PAG E
On the wall between the bed- and bathroom will be a neon sign, saying “Rock’s Roll”. This gives the space the vibe of fun, youth and of course rock music.
31
I added some conventional interior items, such as curtains and mirrors, to fill up the space and create realistic images.
I designed several lamps, which are based on my concept “contrast.
The ceiling will be a rough but very glossy, which results in this liquid silver look.
I was experimenting with the closet area and designed a structure, that can store clothes and is a lighting source at the same time. The shapes are inspired by Spanish architecture.
Since the apartment should be suitable for wheelchair users, the bathroom is designed according to that.
32
PAG E
Since the whole interior is quite new and different from what we normally see, I chose to go with natural wood for the floor, to create a more homie atmosphere.

Motel 1 is a low budget yet generous and modern German hotel chain which was founded in 2000 by the former Accor manager Dieter Müller in Munich. Now the hotel chain owns over 75 hotels hosting up to 25.000 guests all across Europe. Soon Motel 1 will soon be opening their second branch in Spain, which will be located in the city of Malaga.
All of the hotels are easily recognisable by their signature interior design in a modern style with some luxurious elements, and the consistent use of the identity colours turquoise and brown. The lounge, breakfast cafĂŠ and bar area in the One Lounge is typically regionally themed. Motel 1 has been using designs of Patricia Urquiola, Moroso, Nanimarquina or Kettal to provide guests with exotic and modern interior. Custom art and design installations are not a rarity at the hotel.
About Malaga Malaga is a port city on the Costa del Sol in Spain and capital of the Province of Malaga, Andalusia. It has a population of a little over half a million inhabitants. Phoenicians from Tyros founded the city under the name of Malaka around 1000 BC.In the 7th century it was conquered by the Moors and became an important trading venue due to its location. Malaga was withdrawn from Spain in 1487. Fortunately Malaga flourished in the 20th century thanks to industrial development.

IKEA & the PS COLLECTION IKEA PS is for the fiercely independent. For free-thinkers who refuse a work-eat-sleep-repeat life and who give convention a wedgie. Not asking for permission or approval. Choosing freedom and the possibilities that come with it. And that is exactly who this IKEA PS collection was designed for. IKEA is a Swedish-founded multinational group that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories, among other useful goods and occasionally home services. It has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since at least 2008. It is the world’s largest seller of furniture in the early 21st century, operating more than 300 stores around the world. IKEA specializes in low-priced goods, sold whenever possible in compact “flat-pack” form for in-home assembly by the customer. IKEA was founded (1943) in Sweden and still flaunts its origins. In-store restaurants serve Swedish food, and the company’s products carry Swedish names.

Concept development what acceleration means to us and how we discovered our concept
Concept
“Excitement”
What happens when you get excited? When a person is excited it shows in their eyes, how they light up and spark as the adrenaline increases. we wanted to create a lamp based on that, as the light of the lamp can represent the spark in the eyes. The idea is to create a lamp design representing the eyes and the excitement in them. The reason we chose eyes instead of any other body part that reacts to excitement and adrenaline increase is for the reason that it is noticeable in the eyes right away. After doing research into eyes and how they work with excitement and adrenaline increases, we decided to look into the animal world as some animals have differently shaped eyes. We found out that chameleon’s eyes are very fascinating as they have a 360-degree vision.
chameleons eyes as our inspiration
We decided to use the chameleons as an inspiration for the shape design of the lamp.
52
PAG E
When choosing the concept we discussed many different ideas and approaches. We wished to redefine the word “acceleration” and look at it in a more abstract perspective. After many discussions, we decided to choose excitement as our concept. The way excitement is connected to acceleration is though the body. The way someone gets excited while on the roller coaster, or when a crowd awaits for fireworks to go off on the New Years. The way the emotions, excitement and adrenaline increase at a very fast rate. This concept allows us to take a different approach to acceleration without losing its main meaning which is the increase in speed or rate.
Mood board
PAG E
In the design we wished to create an excitement in a form of a physical object. To combine acceleration with excitement, as well as the blue colour.
53
Inspiration board
We got inspired by the long exposure camera shots, chameleon eyes as well as art pieces from an artist Dale Chihuly. We also found some images of designer lamps that followed a similar idea. As the location where the lamp is going to be displayed is Motel 1, we also found inspiration in the hotel design and colours.
PAG E
54
Dale Chihuly We were very much inspired by the American glass sculptor and entrepreneur Dale Chihuly. His works are considered to possess outstanding artistic merit in the field of blown glass, “moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture.” The colours and materials he uses for some of his designs matched the idea we had in mind, for example, the aquamarine colour which Motel 1 uses in their hotel designs or the irregular neon tubes that scream out excitement and energy.
PAG E
The designs of his sculptures are very outstanding and innovative, they will surprise you when you see them for the first time and give you our desired “excitement” effect. For this reason, we analysed the shapes and techniques of his works and incorporated them into our design.
55
Material board Clear blue glass will be used for most parts of the lamp.
Silver metal should be used for details and to provide strong support and a robust outcome.
Frosted glass with low translucency.

Sustainability Using body heat as enery supply
Imagine being the innovative mind who first thought of harnessing body heat for good. Think about it—whenever you’re trapped indoors with a large group of people, the combined body heat makes the temperature rise considerably. Both the Mall of America and Stockholm’s rail station have taken advantage of their large crowds to create renewable energy. In Stockholm, the body heat of 250,000 daily commuters is channeled into an office building to supply heat without using fossil fuels. The Mall of America also channels their visitors’ heat through a series of pipes and tanks to heat the building and save energy. Crematoriums have even been considered as a source of energy! Though there are only a few examples of using body heat as energy so far, it’s a promising option for busy hubs. A thermoelectric generator (TEG) is a device that converts a temperature difference into a voltage, and manages the flow of electrical current around a circuit. It is a means for converting waste heat into electricity. Kedar Hippalgaonkar, Jianwei Xu and their co-workers at A*STAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) think they could soon use low-grade waste heat – think car exhaust or body heat – to power devices. “An enormous amount of low-grade waste heat is being dumped into the environment”, says Hippalgaonkar. Converting this heat into electricity is a big opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.
PAG E
As the lamp is designed for Motel 1 lounge area, the energy source that is going to be used to power it is going to be body hear. As the hotel has many visitors daily, this is going to be sustainable solution to power the lamp. An alternative power solutions are going to be avaibale, as the lamp is going to be sold in IKEA stores for a vide range of population, so that they can fit the lamp in any space they wish.
57
Sketches
our initial ideas 1.

58
PAG E
The initial idea was to create a lamp based on the space concept. We thought about shooting stars and how they accelerate (design 1). We also considered doing a design of a moving light that would spin in a circle, and the movement of it would create the shape of the lamp itself. We weren’t satisfied with this design because it didn’t have enough relation to acceleration. we also wanted to have a relation with Malaga, as it is the location where the lamp will be made for. As Malaga is known for flamenco dancing, we included an abstract shape of a flamenco dancer in the middle and a spinning shape on the bottom which would represent how the dancers dress moves in the process (design 2). That kind of design seemed too complicated and also wouldn’t fit any other location, as the lamp is going to be sold in many IKEA stores around the world. After we decided to use excitement concept related to the eye, we created design 3 but came to the conclusion that it looked too calming, 2 dimensional and didn’t fir with the acceleration concept. We kept the excitement concept connected to the eyes but did deeper research into eyes and what happens to them as a person gets excited. We looked into the animal world as animals have differently shaped eyes and found that chameleons have fascinating eyes and their vision is in 360 degrees. From that, we decided to create a 3-dimensional lamp with “bumps” on it to represent the chameleon skin and curved “spikes” coming out of it to representing acceleration.

Store display As this lamp is something new and unique, that Ikea hasn`t really offered before, we wanted to have the same effect for the display in the Ikea stores. It is all about feeling excited when and shortly before you see the lamp for the first time. The Ikea lamp section is usually filled with hundreds of lamps and light bulbs, creating a beautiful illumination. However, you can get lost in this luminosity and the focused is being taken away from every single lamp.
To stop this from happening and to be clear about the speciality of the PS collection we figured that this lamp is worth having a special display. In fact, we thought about creating a separate room by installing a large dark tube, that you can access via a small arched entrance. This way, the visitors can have an intimate first impression of the lamp and therefore a much stronger connection to it.

Scion of a family-owned business started in 1941, Jose Gandia-Blasco has served as the creative director since 1996. Based in Spain, the family first made its mark in the area of textiles and rugs and has since focused on the design of compelling modern outdoor furniture. Gandia Blasco’s philosophy embraces the marriage of comfort and functionality with elegant designs that reflect a modern lifestyle.

PAG E
Many of Gandia Blasco´s designs are inspired by the beauty of spanish architecture. Some pieces remind of the many squared houses that you see when looking at a typically Spanish village from far. A few notable design caracteristics of Gandia Blasco would be: minimalistic, clean, modern, elegant, timeless, durable and functional.

Gandia Blasco`s stand design has not changed much since the last decade. However, what I did notice is that they are trying to create more “realistic displays. Meaning that they recreate a terrace or a pavilion and arrange the furniture just like a customer would do it in their home. I believe that it is best to design a stand that still fits into their design philosophy, but is more modern, futuristic and innovative. It is time for Gandia Blasco, not to reinvent their style or follow any trends, but to move forward and adapt to societies current lifestyle.

FEATURED COLLECTIONS main and secondary collections
I decided that the designs of “SAIL” by Hector Serrano will be the main featured collection for this exhibiton.
about SAIL
The warm colours, materials and craftsmanship that characterise the cultures of the Orient have once again inspired designer Héctor Serrano to expand the Sail Outdoor collection, originally designed for GAN, GANDIABLASCO’s indoor brand. The Spanish designer has used an outdoor fabric instead of the traditional wool dhurrie carpet to create a fresh, modern and large collection. The design transforms this product into an entertaining alternative that naturally blends into different environments.
PAG E
The result is a versatile, comfortable outdoor stool collection with a unique design.

The collection SAIL is advertised as the perfect and comfortabel exterior cushion for quality time outdoors. As the name suggests the shape is inspired from a sail while aslo taking in consideration the calm and relaxing lifestyle of sailers.

“356 is a collection of outdoor furniture inspired by the sinuous and elegant curves of the first Porsche 356 made in the 1940s and 1950s, which bestow ergonomics and comfort on the product.” – José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales –
about Docks Docks is an open and flexible modular furniture collection that takes into account the relationships between the components and engages in a dialogue with the human body that creates a distinct sense of balance. On a stackable and easy to transport lightweight aluminium structure are the various cushion and backrest sections from which sofas, beds and more complex relaxation areas are assembled.
Gandia Blasco is selling not only furniture but a lifestyle. A lifestyle of luxury and high demands, where well spent time becomes the most valuable thing in life. I found that Gandia Blasco´s pays a lot of attention into bringing each design to its perfection, to provide the customers with the highest quality possible. To meet these conceptions I looked into what inspired them to realize their ideas of sophistication and simplicity. Without going too deep I decided to stick to a concept that is associated with the main featured collection “SAIL” and to the brand itself: SAILING.
Sailing is a relaxed, calm and luxurious lifestyle that is nevertheless characterized by minimalism and elegance. It is the proximity to the sea and the non-binding use of nature´s power that forever binds many people to the peaceful and simple life on the boat. I believe that these are qualities that are as well associates to the brand’s identity.

The final design should reflect a calm and relaxed mood. The aim is to transfer visitors to a luxurious boat life on a sailing ship, where a fresh ocean breeze and warming sunshine are your everyday surroundings.
INSPIRATION BOARD To get inspiration I decided to look at the brand itself and get ideas from their previous stands, showrooms and advertisements. What I mainly took from these images is the colour scheme of ocean blue, gold-brown wood and pure white, as well as the use of materials such as white aluminium or plastic and natural wood. I also noticed that Gandia Blasco loves to have the sea in the background of their product shooting.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS NA XEME NA 19 9 6
I believe that we are currently seeing an ongoing design trend in our modern world that has and will influence artists and creators in every part of design. It is the futuristic look that society is craving at the moment. We are leaving the geometrical shapes and corners behind and moving towards rather feminine and rounded shapes. You can see this especially in the products and objects that surround us every day: phones, shoes, cars, means of transport and of course buildings and furniture. This want for futurism is also the reason why the work of architects such as Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry have been gaining so much popularity. From my research point of view, I`ve been able to see this design movement in Gandia Blasco´s products as well. Especially if you compare the collection, NA XEME NA, which was introduced in 1996 with SOLONAS from 2018. The designer, Mario Ruiz, who worked on the collection “FLAT” has said the following: “I tried to archive something very minimal with the Gandia Blasco universe, by making it more feminine. That is, being sweeter, rounder.”
110
PAG E
SOLONAS 2 018
While those changed have been recognizable in their furniture, not much of it has been seen in the previous stands design, which is why I want to keep this new approach in mind and potentially come up with an idea that is adapted the modern age.
PAG E
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
111
Its design suggests the speed, stability, safety and purpose of a boat. It is also the most iconic shape of a boat and therefore easily recognized.
Firstly I was very focused on designing some sort of construction that connects to the sail. However, I then realized that it might be too obvious and too close to the collection SAIL and could possibly interfere with it. This brought me to the idea of using the hull as the shape inspiration, as it is the most notable structural entity of a ship.
By sketching hulls I realized that the sketches of hulls from its front or top perspective were the most powerful. I especially got interested in the front perspective, as this indicates a story of the arrival of a boat. In my point of view, an arrival of a boat it something exciting but also mysterious as you do not know what the boat is going to bring to you. In this case, it could be a new cooperation or business opportunity.
112
PAG E
the hull
In a typical wooden sailboat, the hull is constructed of wooden planking, which is something that can be linked to many of Gandia Blasco’s furniture designs.
shape development I started by sketching a boat from the front and then drawing out the most important shapes that represent this scene.
PAG E
From this point, I thought about how to implement them into the design while taking into consideration the previously mentioned ideas and inspirations.
113
initial design proposal My initial design proposal is an open booth, with two full-size LED screen on the walls that are able to project video. Overall the floor consists of three platforms which are representing the shape of the boat and the waves in an abstract way. The upper platform is covered with wood panels. The same panels will also put a frame around the “boat” and underline it’s shaping as well as serve the purpose of screening. On the open corner is a sail-shaped sculpture that will display the Gandia Blasco logo to visitors, even if they are standing far away from the stand.
PAG E
114
experimental design Experimental design with a physical model is a good and easy way to reflect and to see your ideas in a new perspective. Therefore I created the main shapes with some foam board, hot glue and some thin wood sticks.
PAG E
This allowed me to rearrange the parts and experiment with their positions. Thanks to this task I realised that the first initial idea is still my preferred option and that I was going to continue developing it from there.
115
I decided to integrate a small pool/pond into the ground, to grab any visitors attention with a unique and innovative design that stands out from the rest of the competitors.
A pavilion-like frame will be added above the area to provide a strong base for a custom light installation. In addition, the pavilion reminds of the previous versions of Gandia Blasco designs. In total, the construction consists of three levels and can be easily accessed from both free sides.

360° VIEWS OF IBIZA Ibiza has played a big role in the branding and designs of Gandia Blasco. It is the place where it all started and where the first collection of Gandia Blasco outdoor furniture was invented. To represent this connection I came up with the following idea:
Visitors will be given a unique “sailing” experience. By turning the steering wheel in any preferred direction, the viewport will change and the video on the screen will adjust accordingly.
We will arrange a ship, that is sailing around the island Ibiza for a full day. A 360° camera will be installed on the boat making it possible to record a panorama video of its surroundings. This video will be projected onto the large screen panels, which are able to show an angle of 180°.
PAG E
118
MATERIALS and stuctural components
An aluminium frame will hold the led screen and light installation.
The floor of the “ship and its walls will be made from wood panels. While the vertical panels have gaps in between, the flooring will be solid. Two connected LED screens will be installed on each of the walls to be able to display HD video. If necessary this can consist of several panels.
A small pond will be on the left side, that is filled with water. To get the optimal colour, the ground of the pond will be painted accordingly.
PAG E
The floor and all the white shapes can be modelled with epoxy and polished to a high gloss finish.

INTERIOR IMAGES As in previous stands, Gandia Blasco is using one standard height table with several chairs to have a comfortable area for meetings. The building has a very clear layout. There will be no way of confusion, as it is distributed in several hallways, which you will instinctively follow. Two of them have a slope and a flat raised surface in the middle. This area could be used for sculptures or engaging activities with visitors. However, it might not be optional, as there is not much space and the slope could make standing there for a longer time rather uncomfortable. There are no windows, therefore it will be necessary to work with artificial light. The hallways are a bit narrow, so the artworks should be well distributed, to make sure that certain areas will not get too crowded and inaccessible for some visitors.

ABOUT CUBISM
the cubism period Cubism can be characterized by a move towards the radical geometrization of form and a reduction or limitation of the colour palette. Cubist artworks typically depict objects in geometric schemas of cubic or conic shapes. The illusion of classical perspective is progressively stripped away from objective representation to reveal the constructive essence of the physical world.

THE CUBIST PERIODS
how Cubism changed over time
In order to come up with a concept, I analyzed Picasso’s cubism artworks. What I noticed is the negligence of scale and gravity in many of his paintings. Cubes, showing part of the objects on the painting, would float, be upside down, sit far away from their given attachment or simply be too big. However, the cubist movement envolved and developed over time. Which is why they’re a different period with contrasting drawing styles. This is the reason why I decided to focus on this evolution and show different cubist artworks from age 1914-1945. The concept I choose is “distorted gravity” which is something that I personally can see in almost every single cubist drawing. I want to create a space, that shows a different world, where scale and gravity are twisted, reversed or simply overall totally off.

I started thinking about how it is best to distribute the artwork and how I can implement my concept the best. I came up with the following ideas: floating objects with magnetic fields A room, where the gravity is “twisted” An explosion of a painting where all Cubes are floating Sculptures hanging upside down from the ceiling While developing these ideas, I drew out a floorplan which indicated what kind of distribution & styles I would like to follow. ABOUT MONDA
135
Monda is a charming, typically Spanish village in Andalusia. It has many beautiful small squares, restaurants and bars with narrow streets, small white houses, surrounded by hills covered with olive and fig trees, rocks and agaves. It is the perfect place to explore hidden trails and constantly discovery new beautiful aspects of living in this town. Even though Monda feels like an idyllic place on earth, it is well connected to cities such as Marbella, Coin or Malaga, making it cultural interesting and giving you a high standard of living. The laidback village life helps you to get through a stressful day at school. You can dine at one of the local restaurants, enjoy tapas at La Plaza or even have a luxury and culinary experience at the historic Casa Castillo.
history
OF MONDA
Monda has some prehistoric Roman remains, however, only since the town was habited by Islamic culture Monda appeared to be a stable population. Which is why the town plan, the narrow streets and the numerous fountains all have Islamic influence. And not to forget the Hispano-Muslim castle, which is located on the Violeta Hill overlooking the whole town and even revealing views of the Sierra de las Nieves mountain chain. As some Islamic immigrants continued to live in Monda after the Christian reconquest you can also find traits of Mudejar architecture in Monda. But since the castle and many houses have been demolished during the Alpujarras rebellion the town had to rebuild and only a few of the buildings remained original.

CONCEPT As my sister loves to travel and has moved around a lot when she was younger, we both decided that the design of the interior should reflect that. I started to analyze how the movement of travelling looks like at the moment and came across pictures of highways, air plane routes or train tracks. The pictures symbolize how we move around the world and show how different cities, countries and even continents connect with each other. Travelling has become so easy these days and by researching about it I’ve got more and more fascinated by the perfect layout and organisation of the means of transport all around the globe.

These years of young adolescence are in general a very i m p o r t a n t ti m e f o r g r o w i n g u p , fi n d i n g y o u r p a t h a n d developing as a person.

The first thing I did, was to pixelate the image, so it would be a mosaic from cubes in many different colours, showing a c o l o u r c o m b i n a ti o n o f i t s a r e a . From then on I started searching through my image gallery and looking for pictures that matches one of the cubes' colours. For me, it was not important what the image is showing. It should be just either taken by me, a friend or family and showcasing a moment I was present and I can remember.
I cropped the chosen images into a 1 : 1 r a ti o , s o t h e y w o u l d fi t t h e squares, which was a lot of work. A ft e r s o m e ti m e , I d e c i d e d i t i s good enough if I just take a quick square-shaped screenshot of each image which I wanted to be featured in the collage.

I do have to admit that I wasn’t very precise about having the perfect image for each mosaic piece. Not every picture fits the square perfectly and some are not even placed straight into the cube. Jimmy law was originally a graphic designer, who has developed his own s t y l e o f p a i n ti n g u s i n g a limited variety of wide brushes and spatulas. Even though Jimmy's canvases are usually very large, I’ve tried to recreate his style on an A4 Paper. I used brushes t h e c o r r e c t p r o p o r ti o n s t o m y paper size and cut out small s p a t u l a s f r o m p l a s ti c , s o m y tools would be similar to his. From that on, I started off drawing the shape of my face with a pencil.

Then I mixed my acrylic paint to get the right colour tones. This was a big challenge as I’ve never worked with acrylic before and somehow I just couldn’t seem to find the right tone. However, I just filled in my face, then drew the background, then the hair and finally the eyes. At last, I added some colour details to get a similar style to Jimmy Law.

For the style of the video, I was inspired by an App I have been using a lot recently.
