2. What’s the relationship between Don and Sylvia like? How does it change from the beginning to the end of this story? What do you think it will be like in the future?
The relationship between these two characters is quite complicated. In spite of the fact they love each other, circumstances in their lives have separated them for a long time, because Don left home searching for adventures. In spite of this, he finally realizes that he loves Sylvia. At the beginning of the book Sylvia is quite angry. She is meeting another man, but she doesn´t love him anyway, because Don is still in her heart. At the end of the book, after the dangerous situations Don and Judy are involved, both realize that they must be together. Their future together will be ok, but with some troubles, Don will lose an important part of his life, but finally he will renounce to fly and will stay at home by getting another job.
3. Who has been your favourite character in this story? Give reason for your answer, including a description of that character.
My favourite character is Judy. She is Don and Sylvia´s daughter, and she is still a teenager, but she is a woman if we take into account her way of thinking. She has missed her father for a long time and doesn’t like her mother´s new boyfriend. She desires to see her parents together again. When danger appears in the story, she shows great determination; she has to save her father, ignoring her own fear.
6.
Write a different ending to the story.
A different ending could be a sad and happy one. Happy because Patrick and all the people involved in this would be arrested and punished by justice, but at a tragic cost: Joe and Don´s own death. They would die not only trying to defend Judy, but also trying to stop Patrick using the uranium to contaminate the land where the Sugar Glider had fallen down. This way, Sylvia and Judy would be proud of Don, but the entire family wouldn´t meet again. Sylvia wouldn´t marry again, she would realise she loved Don so much, and Judy would become a famous activist in defense of the rights of the Aborigines.
