Santa Elena Student Residence 2019

Semillas Peru Santa Elena Village, Amazon Rainforest, Peru

The student residence is related to an existing school building, allowing access to education for students from the most remote communities. The project has been carried out through a participatory process: workshop, design and construction. The architectural and structural design is systemic and modular, it follows bioclimatic principles to guarantee environmental comfort, ensuring constant ventilation and natural lighting. The building is built up of a wooden structure with a light roof and minimal habitable modules – the cabins – whose OSB walls divide and define the space. Each cabin opens to the common area of the residence from a sliding door that connects to the hallway. The hallway becomes an extension of the rooms and a common living space, offering different levels of privacy: from the individual to the collective.

JUNGLE HEART Corazón selva. Arms folded to retain the heat. Icy wind that surrounds the hair. Moist air that enters the lungs. Fog that confuses the sight. Are you cold? Corazón selva. Green sentinels hidden among the clouds. They observe you, they surround you, they welcome you. Soft fabrics engaged in a swirling dance. They rock you, support you, lead you to your destination. Where are you going? Corazón selva. The certainty is overturned in discovery. I watch you without imagining you. I look for you without meeting you. I listen to you without understanding you. You arrived? Corazón selva. It’s a journey backwards. From night to day. From artifice to nature. From loss to discovery. Are you surprised? Corazón selva. It is a journey of feeling. It is a journey of unknowns. It is a journey of identification. It is a journey of reality. You are awake!

Ersilia Lab. 2018

Architetti Senza Frontiere Italia Milan, Italy

After a year-long process, made of workshops, meetings, events and neighborhood parties, ERSILIAlab “The Library of Relationships” has culminated in the construction of a mobile pop-up carriage, called Il Carro di ERSILIA. The carriage has been built by Roma and Gagé neighbors all together, and it has been conceived as a public mobile space designed to share mutual knowledge. Further, it is both physical and social space to diffuse Romani culture not only in the neighborhood but across the entire city of Milan. Thanks to a series of events, it has provided opportunities to create cultural relationships between Roma and Gagé.

Koli Jamat Community Hall 2018

Urbz Mumbai Dharavi, Mumbai, India

The Koli Jamat Community hall was designed as a process rather than as a project. Meetings and discussions with the Jamat, it’s members and the contractors were instrumental in giving direction to the design of the building. Architectural drawings were a method of documenting these discussions, a diagrammatic record of the projects progress. The Jamat and the contractors were engaged in the design from the first step, initiating a discussion about intent. It was important that the building expressed their identity, the Koli Jamat and Dharavi Koliwada. With a large programmatic requirement, the scale of the project itself proved to be the marker needed to announce Koli presence. The act of construction at this scale, especially in a context like Dharavi is a proclamation of community strength; it involves overcoming bureaucratic obstacles, raising funds and getting support from several stakeholders.

PARADISE GROUP Fanciful flow of ideas for a construction site that moves faster than the imagination. The opera Koli Jamat is pleased to present itself dressed in yellow and blue drapes. She is at times shameful, but she does not lose the boldness of the architectural work. Willing and unwilling to expose herself to public opinion, knees and arms covered in sign of respect towards the spectators. She fears criticism during the performance of the play and she trembles for the final judgment once the drapes have disappeared. She communicates with tight lips through her constantly moving scenery, and she frames the curtain with the advertisement “Paradise Group. Unforeseen between one scene and another, wrong dress changes, costume designers who run for cover: a patch here, a button there, and the tear turns into decoration. The group of paradise flies high up to the third floor, it offers an ethereal view and a heavenly experience for those who conquer the summit. Arabesques arches, squared squares, the result is astonishing. The audience leaves the room, moved by the unexpected speed of execution and the fervid imagination of the actors. It was a success!

Delta V 2018

Urbz Geneva Versoix, Switzerland

Delta V is a participatory urban planning project that takes place in Versoix, Geneva. Urbz was commissioned by Versoix and the State of Geneva to plan a mixed-use neighbourhood in a hotly contested site, where another development project had previously been rejected by the residents. Urbz proposed a radically participative approach, that associated local residents and invited creative minds from all over the world to imagine what the new neighbourhood should be like. The urbz team worked from a house located on the site itself, which was open to visitors and where the work in process was exhibited. The program and plan were generated through a series of workshops and interactive events.

Car-less future city 2017

Future Architecture Platform Milan, Italy

How would you live your city if cars were banned? How would mobility be rethought? To confront the world’s escalating population and climate issues, we imagine that Milan becomes the world’s first car-less city. Taking cars out of mobility shapes a new city experience. No driving creates more free time and improves quality of life—all while curbing pollution and stress. This transforms urban living in an enriching existence. Transport happens in a layered vertical network (underground system), while the surface level becomes recreational space for people and landscape. Transport too becomes a place for learning, entertainment and socializing: tube coaches host exhibitions, courses, etc. The media will be key to shape our understanding of the new sustainable city. Our planet risks collapse; our cities have become a place of stress and dehumanization. More needs to be done—but is this the first step to solve both?

Rupanco future development masterplan 2017

Aluantu - Patagonia Rupanco lake, Chile

The Rupanco project is a future prediction of the development of the site Rupanco, located in Chile in the lakes region, for the next 10 years. The idea is to develop a sustainable, self sufficient and ecological area, that will be taken as example for others future projects. The project site is 100 hectares. The masterplan focuses on the development of the territory based on a permaculture design. The plan shows the new buildings that will implement the area: the ecology center, the tee-pee’s, the barn, the greenhouse. The treatment of the different soil: food forest, orchard nursery, alley crop, cattle rotation, annual bed, berry and herbs fields. The use of the existing stream for the construction of a solar shower and the wash area. Areas for chicken rotation, bee boxes and pollinator.

UNDER PATAGONIA’S SKY The sun kisses my mouth, the rain caresses my eyes. My arms are flapping toward the light above my head, my feet are seeking for stability in the depth of the earth. The sun kisses my mouth, the rain caresses my eyes. My hair follows the rhythm of the wind, my belly is full of life with every breath. The sun kisses my mouth, the rain caresses my eyes. My ears welcome the nest of those yet to be born, My belly button follows the rhythm of the sap that flows in my veins. The sun warms my heart, the rain feed my body. I open my eyes, and the morning dew leaves my white flowers that reflect your smile.
