CLIENT MARIOTTO FAMILY

LOCATION SAN FRANCISCO



Remodeling the 3 single units and the rooftop of the Marrioto house, that was located at 13 Wood Street, San Francisco, California. The upper unit would be occupied by Ernie; the middle unit is for his sister; the lower unit would be occupied by his niece.

In this new space, they would like to have a sense of entry that has a definition and grandeur. The overall look should be modern and stylish by providing new material, furniture, fixture, appliances, and hardware.

Folded Paper Elements: Layers, geometric, asymetric, sharp edge

Approach: Fun-engaging yet cozy atmosphere based on the concept elements.

Who lived here? 18 years old college student. She liked to study at home and often brings her friends to the house. She need a big closet and enclosed bedroom.

Paint Strokes Elements: Strokes texture, deep color, splatters, organic flow

Approach: Artistic feeling in every area of the house, with smooth circulation and engaging environment.

Who lived here? Married couple. Wife loved to paint and art collector. They entertain their friends and clients. They want their living and dinning room to be intergrated.

Shoji Screen Tags: Square, shillouette, transparancy, light and shadow

Approach: Modern look through Japanesse influence, make the house to be a living gallery.

Who lived in here? Interior designer. He collected contemporary paintings and sculptures. He want to utilize his home to be his private office.

Guest Bed room This project is built in 2008

Approach: Simple modern look guest bed room with monochromatic and neutral color of the material and finishes: deep grey granite floor, off-white wall paint, teak wood furniture and millwork, and some less texture fabric. The lighting should be dramatic yet cozy.

Bed frame platform & Shelves Custom bed platform for queen size bed. The door lever should also a curve shape.


Camuflaje Door This is the access to bathroom. The door finishes is matched with the wall, it is bronze tinted mirror. Just push to enter the room (bathroom inside). Door handle is instaled inside.

Inlaid Timber Door Panel A door panel with solid teak wood material, touched with curve line wood inlay to give dinamic feeling to the space. The solid wood panel is stained with two different tone, it create depth of the door. The door lever should also be in curve shape.

Lighting Design Through Concept

Concept: Underwater Light - ‘Coral reef’ Approach: A living space with underwater oceanic atmosphere and look. How? Built multiple layers of drop-ceiling with shape that imitate the coral reef texture. LED strip lamp concealed in between every layers.

Concept: Underwater Light - ‘Jelly Fish’ Approach: The design should attract people from the street. Lighting as direction for customer to see every part of the space How? Built multiple layers of drop-ceiling continously unltil it forms shoe rack display. The shape and color imitate the jelly fish body, with LED strip lamp concealed in between every layers.

Concept: Underwater Ligth - ‘Abalone shell’ Approach: A bar and restaurant with cozy and calm atmosphere. People should feel like they are inside the shell. How? Built multiple layers of drop-ceiling with shape and color that imitate the abalone shell texture. LED strip lamp concealed in between every layers. The overall ambient should be quite dark, except in the bar area, where there is a yellowish light that interpret as a shining pearl.

Concept: Underwater Light - ‘Caustic lightrays’ Approach: The caustic reraction to the surroundings How? A square fish bowl is hanged on a custom-instalation pendant light. With LED light panel as the light source, and small fan to create the water wave.

Chandler Vacation House Location: Red Feather, Colorado

Area: 713 sq ft

Who lived here? Husband and wife with their two sons (age 9 and 11). He needed a private office that was separated from the public area and the kid’s area. While one of the kid has a accoustic problem so that he need an un-opended room for him to sleep. They also have 2 lovely dogs that need a shelter inside the house.

Rocky Mountain Elements: nature, energetic, geometric, irregular texture

Approach: The use of irragular shape brings dynamic composition to the overall building. Combining the medium dark rustic wood, concrete, glass and washed wite color would create a contemporary look with warm atmosphere.

Interior Elevation


The approach is to connect every area in this house. It creates the sense of warmth and convergent., so that people can interact easily everywhere they are in the house. Double ceiling at the living room area gives an open feeling, as the natural lights also come from the double height window.

All in One Platform It is staircase as well as doghouse, storage, and bench. Built in wood frame structure with very strong material and finishes. Selected hardwares are instaled for the storage door panel


Mezzanine The orange hi-gloss lacquered of mezzanine wall spiced up the space and brings up the energetic feeling. The wall including the slidding door are slanted to maximized the room inside.

Keeping the existing wooden structure gives texture to the overall space.


Multifunction Kids Room Kids’ bedroom as well as playing room. Some part of the floor panel can be folded, and 2 single beds are placed beneath the flooring panel,
