FUCHS EC2020 Rules & Information The Elephant Charge will take place this year with some modifications, to ensure social distancing and maximum protection for all involved. All governmental guidance will be strictly adhered to. However, we are committed to continue to support our conservation projects who have lost a significant proportion of funding from the tourism industry. Now, more than ever, our wildlife and the people living and working within national parks need support and protection. This year there will be no catering or bar and we invite teams to be self-sufficient in their own campsite (which should adhere to all social distancing guidelines and be limited to 30 people max.). Temperatures will be taken at the entrance gate. Please do NOT come along if you are displaying any symptoms related to COVID-19. Gatherings such as drivers’ briefings will be limited to one member per team and will be conducted in a socially distanced manner, keeping 2m distances, wearing face masks and using hand sanitizer. The Fuchs Elephant Charge 2020 results will be announced online as soon as possible after the event. There will be no prize giving ceremony and we plan to conduct this in conjunction with a results night in a socially distanced manner after the event on 10 October 2020 at Kiara Farm, Chifwema Road. More details to follow. In order to thank the AMAZING 24 teams already registered and fundraising, we are reducing the entry fee to $300 (if teams have already paid $400 we will transfer the extra $100 to your pledge) to help you along with your fundraising efforts. Some of our usual teams will not be entering this year, which is completely understood, and they have INCREDIBLY committed to fundraising anyway, which we are so grateful for. Thank you! These teams will not have to pay an entry fee but will still have an “entrance” for this year which will be marked as “Did Not Finish” but they are still eligible for fundraising trophies. 8 |

MORE INFORMATION‌.

We are in the wilderness and the mission of Elephant Charge is to protect the extraordinary beauty of this country. Any personal ideas of fun cannot interfere with the environment, which is home to many local communities. If you are in doubt about the guidelines, be sure to ask any Charge Official.

CAMPING

Be sure to check in at HQ before setting up your campsite! We do have allocated camping areas, this is to allow space for everyone, so that we are not all camping on top of each other. There is also an entry fee of K100 per vehicle, which is donated to the local community that is hosting us at the site. Please camp in the designated areas only. All campers are expected to be self-sufficient in terms of camping equipment. Basic ablution facilities are provided. Please do use them and keep them clean and tidy throughout the weekend.

LITTER

The Bright Future Project will be providing recycling services at the Elephant Charge. They will be providing recycling bags for each campsite. Please make sure that you put all of your waste in these bags, they will be collected at the end of the event which shall then be recycled in Lusaka.

FIRE

It is dry season. The bush is like a tinder box. Light a fire ONLY in your designated camping area, if possible, please use mbaulas or gas stoves. Make sure there is a clear space (foliage free) around your campfire. Do not leave the fire unattended. Put water on the fire if you have to leave it. Cigarettes are a fire hazard. Please do not throw cigarettes out of the car windows or leave them on the ground they are not biodegradable.

CHARCOAL

5kg of sustainably harvested eco-charcoal has been provided by Eco – Charcoal Bio Carbon Partners for each team to use while camping. Please do not use illegal charcoal. Thank you, Eco-Charcoal!

NOISE

The Elephant Charge takes the view that this is as much a form of pollution as any other. A sociable quiet conduct is acceptable which means no loud music. If possible, leave the generator at home, however, if you must have a gen-set please place it well away from the other camps and in a pit to minimize the noise. Generators must be switched off by 10pm.

Every year the beneficiaries make grant applications and are selected based on the programs and projects that they propose are best placed to deliver the Elephant Charge mission of ‘Conservation through Education’ in Zambia. The beneficiaries prepare reports on how the funds have been spent through the year so that the Elephant Charge and the teams can be sure the money is well spent.
