Adventures
ON-PISTE SKIING
Chalet Hibou offers quick access to seven of the globes’ best ski resorts, including Val d’Isère, Tignes, and Les Arcs. From beginner to expert-only runs, the terrain is extensive and the après scene is the best there is. The longest run in Europe—7 kilometers—faces the Chalets’ balconies.
OFF-PISTE SKIING
Head to the nearby resorts and hop on a ski lift to easily access backcountry routes like the forests of Sainte Foy, glacier runs in Tignes, and The Lost Valley in Val d’Isère. Our guides will be there to take you to the right spots based on your skill level.
HELI SKIING
Since Italy is right next door, heli-skiing from Chalet Hibou is a must. We’re located near three different heli-ski bases which access more than 40 descents. Our guides are local experts, and the runs average 1,000 meters.
SKI TOURING
The Tarentaise Valley offers diverse ski touring options, from high peak tours and forest routes to easy mountain climbing suitable for beginners. Your private guide will find appropriate terrain for each guest’s level and expectations.
SNOWSHOEING
Snowshoe into the wilderness directly from the chalet, or snowshoe from one of the local ski resorts in the vicinity. Options are plenty, including easy, 30-minute walks, full-day hikes, and challenging 1,200-meter climbs.
“TVB” TARENTAISE VALLÉE BLANCHE TOUR
Ski to Italy from the Tarentaise Valley for the ultimate ski safari. From the Pointe Helbronner cable car, ski 15 kilometers on the glacier of the legendary “Vallee Blanche” to Chamonix. After skiing Mont-Blanc massif, heli over the Mont Blanc summit back to the chalet.
BIATHLON
Race on cross-country skis, then shoot a target like the Olympians. Open to all, the biathlon promises fun for a family or group of friends who want to share a new winter experience. If not you’re not confident with cross-country skis, snowshoes work, too.

Good to Know
CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT:
• Check-in time at Chalet Hibou is 3:00 pm and check out time is at 10:00 am.
• Please note: Access to the lodge outside these hours is not guaranteed. Please communicate with the Experience Team to coordinate any conflicts with check-in and checkout times.
CASH AND CREDIT CARDS:
• If you will be spending time abroad before or after Chalet Hibou, we suggest you take cash in the form of Euros for taxis, tips, and other items. It is also recommended that you notify your credit card companies that you will be traveling internationally.
• Visa and Mastercard are usually accepted at restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions in France. Smaller shops and markets in the country sometimes only take cash. Amex is not accepted everywhere in France. Tips and gratuities are usually cash transactions.
• Note that Chalet Hibou is a cash-free property, meaning we only accept credit cards.
LOCAL TIME ZONE:
• Le Miroir adheres to the Central European Summer Time (CEST) zone.
CURRENCY EXCHANGE:
• As a member of the European Union, France uses the Euro as its sole form of currency. The US Dollar is not accepted in France.
GRATUITY:
• Gratuities for Eleven staff and guides are entirely discretionary and not expected. Should you wish to leave gratuity, it can be added to your final bill, which will be charged to your credit card upon checkout. Suggested options of 10%, 12%, or 15%, or the option to leave a custom amount of your choosing, will be offered on the final bill. Gratuity is distributed equitably among all staff who contributed to your stay. If you would like to leave an additional gratuity for a specific team member, you can note their name and the amount on the final bill at checkout.
• Tipping in France is not customary but is appreciated for exceptional service, especially in popular tourist areas. By law, French restaurants automatically include a 15% service charge. For a casual meal, leaving 1–2 euros per person or rounding up to the nearest euro for a drink is a nice gesture. In fine dining establishments, where the service is more attentive, a tip of 5–10% is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation.
CELLULAR SERVICES:
• Check with your cell phone provider before your trip to see if they provide international service in France. Some companies have inexpensive travel plans that will give you full cell phone service while traveling internationally, but you have to enroll before you leave.
TRAVEL INSURANCE:
• We highly recommend the purchase of trip cancellation insurance. The Eleven Team can help you arrange a policy prior to your trip. Please let us know if you would like us to connect you with our preferred insurance partner, Global Rescue, to provide you with a quote.
ELECTRICAL CURRENT:
• Electrical outlets in France and Chalet Hibou deliver power at 220–240 volts. This is much stronger than most North American sockets, which typically deliver 110–120 volts. Plugging a North American device into an outlet in France could result in damage to the item or a fire. While North American outlets typically use type A or B plugs, outlets in France require type E. We recommend bringing a power adapter for type E sockets to avoid any problems with powering your devices.
