WARDEN'S

Welcome

On behalf of County Council, I am delighted to welcome you to Elgin County, a place where peace and tranquility are found in abundance. Whether you’re visiting for the day or planning a weekend getaway, I hope you experience some of Elgin’s hidden gems and let this year’s Visitor’s Guide show you the way.

Nestled along 100 km of pristine Lake Erie shoreline, Elgin County is located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario. For those who seek adventure, Elgin is home to excellent cycling pathways that meander through Carolinian forests and along scenic coastal shorelines. Our serene waterways are perfect for a quick dip or an afternoon paddle. For golf enthusiasts, don’t forget our award-winning links that await your next swing.

Awaken your senses with a mouth-watering dish crafted from locally sourced ingredients at one of Elgin’s many cafes and restaurants that dot the countryside; your taste buds will thank you! Your meal won’t be complete without a glass of wine or a crisp beer crafted from locally grown fruit, grapes and hops.

The main streets of Elgin’s idyllic towns and villages are the perfect places to explore trendy boutiques, take in a live theatrical performance, or celebrate Elgin’s rich history and culture by visiting a museum or art gallery. With the perfect blend of rural and urban lifestyles and a wide variety of activities for all ages, Elgin is the ideal place for your next escape.

Come, explore, and discover for yourself why “Life is Beautiful in Elgin,” where we are “Progressive by Nature.”

Enjoy your visit,

MAYOR'S WELCOME

Welcome to St. Thomas, or as we like to call it, "The Railway City"! We are so pleased you have chosen to visit us.

St. Thomas is located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario in beautiful Elgin County with a population that is friendly, proud, and creative. We are a growing community committed to providing quality services for our residents and their families. Our City provides opportunities for recreation and wellness, tourism, and business.

With a diverse landscape, you are sure to find something to enjoy. Our City boasts over 30km of trails for hiking and cycling that will lead you through our numerous parks, including Waterworks and Pinafore Park, as well as St. Thomas Elevated Park, the first elevated park in Canada.

Looking for arts and culture? As you explore, you are sure to come across many of our murals that cover all corners of the City. While you're at it, discover St. Thomas' rich Railway history with a visit to the CASO station and the Elgin County Railway Museum. Of course, no visit to St. Thomas is complete without a visit to the Jumbo Elephant monument!

If all of this activity has you hungry, stop for a bite to eat and enjoy our wide variety of local dining opportunities – from family fun restaurants and local craft beer to international cuisine. Grab a coffee and baked good from one of our unique cafes and head to The Horton Farmers' Market; one of the province's leading Farmers' Markets since 1878 and open on Saturday mornings from May to October.

Whether it’s a drive down Talbot Street to admire our heritage and support our small businesses, a stroll through the trail network, or a day at one of our community festivals and events, we hope your experience will be memorable and will encourage you to come back and visit us again soon!
