Jane Murphy appointed to the Elia Board of Directors as an independent director The Elia Board of Directors has coopted Jane Murphy, Senior Associate at the Corporate & Finance Department of law firm Lydian, as an independent director. The Board is planning to confirm the appointment, which has been approved by CREG, at Elia's general meeting of shareholders on 11 May 2010. Jane Murphy is a trained lawyer and an senior associate of the Corporate & Finance Department of law firm Lydian. She succeeds Ingrid Lieten, who resigned after being appointed as a minister in the Flemish Government. Jane Murphy's appointment as an independent director was approved on 10 February by the Board of Directors. CREG approved the decision on 18 March. The appointment will now be put to a vote at the general meeting of shareholders on 11 May 2010. As you will know, the Elia Board of Directors comprises twelve directors, half of whom are independent. The other independent directors apart from Jane Murphy are Clement de Meersman, Jean-Marie Laurent Josi, Jacques de Smet, Luc Van Nevel and Thierry Willemarck. About Elia Elia is the Belgian transmission system operator, transmitting electricity from producers to distribution system operators and major industrial users. Elia is also responsible for importing and exporting electricity from and to neighbouring countries. Elia owns the entire Belgian very-high-voltage grid (150 to 380 kV) and around 94% (ownership and user rights) of the Belgian high-voltage grid (30 to 70 kV). Elia's grid comprises 5,645 kilometres of overhead lines and 2,767 kilometres of underground cables, and is a key link between electricity markets in northern and southern Europe. As a result of recent investment in interconnection capacity with neighbouring countries, Belgium has become one of the most open and interconnected countries in Europe.
