Our life prerogative gives us the reason to treasure the lives we had. Heya Wraps up five days of Fashion Inspiration Held successfully under the safety and hygiene guidelines, the exhibition sets a benchmark for all business events to follow

T

he 17th Edition of Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition, held under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), concluded on Tuesday, 1st December after five days. The country’s leading exhibition of modest fashion trends, Heya was hosted by Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) and organised by its subsidiary, Qatar Business Events Corporation (QBEC).

Qatar Business Events Corporation CEO Ahmed Al Obaidli commented: “I would like to congratulate all partners, participants and organisers on a successful event, which marks the return of the sector. While the pandemic has altered the way in which these events are held, the continued collaboration among our stakeholders, and the support from our partners at the Ministry of Public Health, enabled us to provide a safe and controlled environment for the public, while showing the vibrancy of Qatar’s fashion scene.”

As the first event to take place since the lockdown earlier this year, the exhibition followed strict hygiene and safety guidelines put forth by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). To maintain safety, all those entering the exhibition had to present their EHTERAZ application, and organisers ensured visitors and exhibitors wore masks throughout. Social distancing measures were followed, with visitor capacity inside the hall maintained at 30%.

This year Heya showcased Qatar’s homegrown talent, with established brands and businesses to upcoming designers participating. Over 150 brands presented high-street apparel, haute couture and luxury, to the latest modest evening gowns and abayas. Well-known local fashion figures, media personalities, influencers, designers and entrepreneurs participated in various talk shows and workshops.

Elizabeth Yang Soon Ju, VCUarts Qatar Fashion Design Alumna and Adjunct Faculty said, “Having my ‘New Normal’ collection featured on the runway at this year’s Heya was a great opportunity for me, and indeed very exciting. I received many positive comments and the whole experience gave me confidence and new connections. This show really brings together the entire fashion community and gives Qatar’s new generation of designers a platform to be seen and celebrated.”

Over the years, many local designers and entrepreneurs have made their debut at Heya, going on to building successful and known brands internationally. A partnership with Bedaya Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development featured talks with inspirational figures in the business, who spoke at Heya and offered advice to aspiring young designers wishing to launch their own businesses.

The 17th edition of Heya endorsed ‘fashion for a cause’, partnering with Education Above All (EAA). Founded by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in 2012, the foundation works with global, national, regional, and local partners to enrol 10.4 million out of school children globally.

Mr. Abdulla Faleh Al Saeed, Board Member and Acting General Manager of Bedaya Center said, “Bedaya Center would like to thank Qatar National Tourism Council and the management of Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition for their invitation and support to local entrepreneurs especially to projects owned and operated by women, that are always in need for such kind of support.” “The 17th edition of the exhibition has achieved great success by all standards, and we are pleased to be a part of this success by providing the opportunity to female startup business owners to showcase their products and businesses. We always seek to provide the best solutions to help entrepreneurs achieve their desired goals, and support the SME sector in the country,” he concluded. Over its five days, participants at Heya were able to enjoy ten talk shows, four fashion shows and two workshops, organised for current and budding designers. Another Heya partner, M7 participated in numerous talk shows focused on empowering young fashion entrepreneurs. An initiative of Qatar Museums, M7 helps designers explore, collaborate, and grow into successful entrepreneurs. Maha Al Sulaiti, Acting Director of M7 commented, “It was a pleasure to be part of this edition of Heya. We at M7 truly believe that there is no shortage of creative talent in Qatar and we aim to create an environment that nurtures and develops these designers into successful entrepreneurs. Heya has always been a great platform for young designers to showcase their work and engage with the public where otherwise they wouldn’t have that close connection.” A partner of Heya, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts Qatar) has long been the institution of choice for the country’s fashion design students. Its faculty, alumni and students participated actively in the 17th edition of Heya as panellists, and also in the fashion shows. 39

Hand made products that contain scented candles or interior fragrances with extracts of natural oils, Trullini are composed of five olfactory areas recognizable by the color and the top shape, which in the actual trulli is the signature of the owner. Once the perfume is finished, this object can be used as a container for small precious objects. The top of each Trullini is made in clay, hand turned and glazed, while the base in metric clay is embellished with drops of aventurine cooked in the oven. Perfumes available: bitter orange and pepper, bamboo, citrus, fresia, tangerine and vanilla.

Its printed motif is inspired by a sumptuous wooden ceiling with golden hexagonal coffers, typical of the Baroque churches of Salento. The pattern is repeated shading or placed in the centre and shaded, creating a mystical optical effect. CAPAS vases – design Ugo La Pietra Renowned artist and designer Ugo La Pietra took his inspiration from the concept of Mother Earth using traditional materials like terracotta and clay to revisit local products and techniques. The capasone is, in fact, a clay vessel for wines and oils typical of the Mediterranean area today is used as a decorative element of the splendid Apulian gardens. La Pietra enhances the hand-turned clay vase with a matte finish and an engraving that becomes poetry: “Born from the Earth, Lives for the Earth, Dies in the Earth”.

PUMO The traditional pumo, lucky objects of the Apulian tradition, emphasises the company’s strong ties to its land of origin. The pumo, from the Latin “pumum”, or pine cone, is a budding flower, a symbol of new life and emerges from the ancient Apulian tradition: it used to stand at the ends of balconies, columns, terraces and, in pairs, at the sides of the bed of newlyweds to wish happiness, prosperity and fertility. Pumo is still made with artisan techniques handed down over time into the skilled hands of Apulian potters, is made of ceramic and is available in different finishes. VICO lamp – Victor Vasilev The Vico lamp is a genuine luminous sculpture with a strong visual impact. With its soft, rounded volumes, this table lamp embodies purity of lines and presence in space. The essence of the project lies in the balance between the base and the shade, which seems to be suspended above the structure. The structure and shade of the Vico lamp are in painted metal; the shade features a round Plex top for a softer light. Available in different finishes and different sizes.

THE KATARA SUITE Located on the third floor, the redesigned Katara Suite takes inspiration from Qatari history, since the year 150 AD, “Catara” was the first and most ancient name designated for the Qatar Peninsula in geographic and historical maps. The launching ceremony took place at Auto Class Cars showroom at Salwa Road and attended by HE Sheikh Faleh Bin Nawaf Al Thani, Managing Director- Auto at Nasser Bin Khaled group, Mr. Hesham Al-Sahn, General Manager of Auto Class Cars, Mr. Karim Monir, Head of Marketing and Communications, Mr. Tamer Abdallah, Maxus Brand manager in Qatar, along with media representatives.

The launch included the new 12-seater bus Maxus V80, and three all-new vehicles which are introduced for the first time in Qatar: 16-seater bus Maxus V90, the G50 MPV compact vehicle, and the seven-seater mid-size D60 SUV. This launch is part of Auto Class Cars and Maxus expansion plan in Qatar that aims to meet the increasing demand on reliable and eco-friendly transport solutions. Powering and motivating the G50 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 159hp and 250 Nm of torque, making for decent performance over naturally aspirated rivals. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that courses the power to the front wheels.

The all-new Maxus V90 (Deliver 9) The all-new Maxus V90 (Deliver 9) is a completely new minivan that employs cutting-edge design with its large, octagonal and chrome-laden grille and smaller and more defined LED lights. The 16-seat bus is an ideal solution for transport. From inside it is similarly stylish with its ‘panoramic’ and curved dashboard which employs a mix of hard and soft-touch plastics. Its interior appears to now be one of the smartest and most car-like of any large van on sale giving the sense of a surprisingly classy product. V 90 has been furnished with all the latest tech. Comfort and convenience features include keyless entry and ignition, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone AC and a 10-inch touchscreen display. All models also feature electrically-assisted power steering, rear doors that open 260 degrees and a choice of Normal, Eco and Power driving modes. Propulsion comes in the form of a brand-spanking 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel Direct injection engine producing 148hp and 375Nm for European customers, with torque peaking as low as 1,500rpm. Interestingly, a lot of work has gone into improving the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) with rubber-molded and foam covers surrounding the engine. The engine is hooked to a new 6-speed manual transmission with rear-wheel drive.

The G50 comes with electronic power steering, which allows this MPV to be piloted with absolute ease. Steering feel is not that apparent, however, the wheel turns with minimal effort, and while bigger than a typical MPV. The technology also includes USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity options, rear parking sensors, automatic climate control, a keyless entry system with push-start, steering wheel audio controls, and cruise control among other features. The G50 is also equipped with power-adjustable seats for select variants. Safety for all variants includes driver and front passenger airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, electronic stability control, ABS with electronic brake assist, hill hold control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an engine immobilizer as well as ISOFIX tethers.

All-new Maxus D60 MAXUS D60 is an all-new SUV launched by SAIC-MAXUS. The new car is positioned in a medium-sized SUV and offers 7-seat layout.

The all-new Maxus G50 MPV The all-new Maxus G50 is a compact MPV with 7 seats for executive luxury transportation. The G50 is equipped with a 12-inch infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps, automatic airconditioning and power tailgate.

The D60 made its global debut with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine mated to a seven-speed DCT under its hood. This setup generates a decent 159hp and 250Nm of torque. Its massive octagonal grille up front features a honeycomb-like design. This is flanked by aggressive-looking swept-back headlamps as well as a pair of sporty fog lamps. 73

The D60 also gets a gigantic 8-inch infotainment display up front, complemented by a 12.3-inch full LCD digital instrument panel. As a mid-sized SUV for family, it considers more on practicality in the interior design. A large area of soft material is used above the center console to highlight the good texture.

The new Maxus V80 The new Maxus V80 has now a shorter wheelbase that accommodates 12 seats. It is equipped with standard headlamps that come with tilt adjustability and LED Daytime Running Light. In terms of Interior design, the Maxus V80 is distinguished with its Humanized Design Interior. From front to back, Maxus V80 gives you efficiency and comfort. With its Various Space Arrangement, the incredible boot space and various styles of seat arrangement, allows V80 in providing various setting possible for different occasion. The Centre Console is simple that facilitates the ease of usage in a modern way. Its surging power comes from an advanced, economical 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that generates 134hp of power and 330Nm of torque. Besides, the new version is equipped with AMT Automated Mechanical Transmission, the computer controlled automatic system based on the dry clutch and manual transmission. Compared with traditional ATAMT, the new AMT is simpler, more stable and its volume is smaller than the previous version. This not only helps to reduce unwanted noise and vibration, but also improves ride comfort and contributes to dynamic driving performance through enhanced steering response. To complement these enhancements, multiple refinements were made to the suspension setup. The new IS features coil springs that are 20 percent lighter than the outgoing model, as well as new forged aluminum A-arms that offer an 18 percent weight reduction. The suspension stabilizer bar has also been optimized using a new material to provide a 17 percent weight reduction.

The new bold exterior styling and athletic silhouette of the 2021 IS signifies the agile changes that have taken place below the surface. The new IS evokes lower, wider proportions with muscular fenders, reflecting the vehicle’s high performance. The sleek lines are also complemented with aggressive sharpness carved into the side and shoulder character lines.

The 2021 IS’s newly designed spindle grille features an intricate pattern that emphasizes a sense of presence, while the slender headlamps and daytime running lights with a sharp L-shape signature have been redesigned to complement the low-profile hood. New rocker panels accent a side profile that features a sharper contour and carries into the muscular shoulders over the rear wheel wells. At the back of the vehicle, the rear fenders blend into the extended, lowered rear deck, creating a low stance and emphasizing the L-shaped fullwidth rear light.

The new model’s distinct personality is completed by its exquisite interior, which invites drivers and passengers to enjoy a range of advanced features for a refined cabin experience. These include a new 10.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system featuring Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, a 4.2inch color multi-information display (MID), and a dual-zone automatic climate control system with touchsensitive controls. The vehicle also offers SmartAccess with pushbutton start, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a power moonroof, 8-way adjustable power and ventilated front seats, as well as ample luggage space thanks to the 60:40 split-folding rear seats. The new Lexus IS’s eye-catching looks are complemented by its balanced, linear and confident driving signature. Owners can choose from two engine options; an updated 2.0-liter, turbocharged and intercooled inline four-cylinder engine delivering 241 hp and 350 Nm of torque, and a sophisticated 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 311 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The two engines are paired with an eight-speed sport direct-shift automatic transmission that offers superb drivability, together with outstanding fuel efficiency and quietness even at high speed. As with any Lexus vehicle, safety is a top priority for the new Lexus IS. Drivers can enjoy complete peace of mind thanks to the Lexus Safety System+, an advanced safety technology package that includes Pre-Collision System (PCS) which include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Emergency Steering Assist (ESA), Daytime Pedestrian Detection (DPD), all-speed range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Alert (LTA), and Adaptive High-beam System (AHB). Further adding to its stylish visual appeal, the 2021 Lexus IS comes in a refined range of color options that allow discerning owners to customize their vehicles according to their tastes. Customers can choose from seven distinctive exterior colors, including the newly developed Sonic Chrome and Sonic Iridium options. Meanwhile, the interior comes in three elegant colors; Ocher, Dark Rose, and the universal Black, which evokes a sense of calm within a gorgeous atmosphere. Two newly developed wheel designs have also been introduced in 18-inch and 19-inch sizes to further express the driving feel pursued by the Lexus brand. For those seeking to experience the ultimate in thrilling responsiveness, the new IS is also available in an F Sport version. Engineered for exhilaration, the F brand DNA has trickled down from the legendary LFA, which represents the pinnacle of refined performance. The IS F Sport model boasts exclusive interior and exterior features, including a distinctive ‘F’ mesh pattern, a grille-bottom air intake, rear spoiler, and 19-inch alloy wheels. It comes equipped with an F Sport exhaust and diffuser, as well as improved Active Sound Control to enhance the performance notes of the V6 engine. Inside the cabin, the 8-inch color TFT LCD meter features a movable meter ring that enables a dual display using a single meter. Owners can choose from a range of eight exterior colors that emphasize the vehicle’s sportiness, including three colors exclusive for the IS F Sport model; Radiant Red contrast layering, Heat Blue contrast layering or White Nova GF, while the interior is available in White and Flare Red.

ince the market launch in 2015, around 60,000 examples of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class have been delivered worldwide. In 2019, with around 12,000 units, more MercedesMaybach S-Class cars were sold than ever before. The growth rate in China was in double figures. Alongside China, the main sales markets in recent years have been Russia, South Korea, the USA and Germany. The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is set to continue this success story. It combines the perfection and high-tech solutions of the only recently presented Mercedes-Benz flagship model with the exclusivity and tradition of Maybach. The wheelbase is 18 cm longer compared to the long variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which entirely benefits the rear. Thanks to Executive Seats as standard and the Chauffeur package, the rear section becomes a comfortable working or resting area. They are complemented by exclusive details such as large areas of trim on the rear of the front seats and between the two rear passengers. In a number of markets, sales of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
