ArtMoorHouse 2022 curatorial theme:
SPACE This year theme was selected to offer deliberately a vast range of possibilities embracing subjects as diverse as cyber space and the environment. Whilst being timely we wanted to select a topic that re ected a cultural shift that is happening now or that it’s about to happen. From the space we work or live in, to the new concept of space as the required distance between us, or from the importance of shapes in de ning space to the abstract idea of it. “My proposal for the space at One Carter Lane is to install two paintings which focus on a speci c part of my practice . As the theme for One Carter Lane is ‘space’, I wanted to propose two paintings which both explore the space between the artist, the studio and the outside world. Built up in tactile layers of paint and collage, these paintings are made using materials associated with the studio. Through looking and re ection, they are allowed to follow different creative directions and hint to a broader narrative through visual cues including

magazine cutouts and paint splattered
Styrofoam. The paintings move between the visual world of the artist and the physical world of an urban landscape, through the artist’s hand. Presenting these paintings as a pair alludes to the urban architectural form of garage doors passed in the street, or shopfront windows given a cursory glance”. Phil Frankland
