I’m nearing the end of my Masters of Architecture (Professional) at Victoria University of Wellington. I’m on track to finish the exergesis of my thesis by the end of January, and am looking for work in a firm for around the middle of February. For this porfolio, I’ve collected the most diverse range of projects from over my five years at architecture school. I’m an earnest designer, photographer, illustrator, painter and maker, an avid film lover and bookworm. I love to be involved with creative projects outside of the office, both on my own and working with others. I am an eager volunteer for many industry events; these being among my highlights as a student.

HERE’S WHAT’S INSIDE:
a frolick in the forest: the playground on Kapiti master’s thesis research 2017
re:search, re:farm, re:present fourth year studio at the pennsylvania state university april 2016 `
I’ve always had a thing for designing architecture for play; grouping this with a love for nature and an urge to paint and draw, this project proposes a way that ecotourism can rekindle a strong, playful relationship can the New Zealand forest. The project uses various analogue media to understand the relationship of painting and architecture, as a way to formulate and discover a language of play in the forest.
I’d been in The States less than a week when our studio launched headfirst into an ongoing project initiated a local couple and their architect. the group were looking to expand their current farm-tofork restaurant franchise with a Living Building Challenge qualifier; they envisioned a destination café/ restaurant, cidery and research/education centre, located just south of the University town of State College, Pennsylvania.

christchurch: a new city summer school, 2015
personal work photography, design & illustration 2015 - 2017
As a SANNZ coordinator for VUW in 2017, we collected to a group of volunteers to enter an installation to Wellington’s annual PARK:ing Day 2017. The wall was an attempt to not only bring a range of SANNZ students together from all year levels and abilities - before we kicked off for the year, but to craft a fun, interactive space where strangers could create active interactions using words.
I had the opportunity to partake in a summer school in Christchurch during the summer of my second year. Lead by Mark Southcombe, the studio was based in the heart of the rejuvenating city - groups of three were asked to develop a scheme for a new Library, a medium density housing frame, and suggest what to do with the Cathedral.
I spend a lot of time outside of university partaking in creative endeavours of my own. I am a keen photographer, have a knack for graphic design and I love to draw and paint whenever I can.

A Frolick in the Forest proposes a playground in the deep forest of Kapiti Island Nature Reserve. It provokes the idea that nature and culture can rekindle a strong, playful relationship. The process, driven by painting, develops a system of structures that intimately understands the trees, the birds and the land - and a way people can play in it.

re:farm, re:search, re:present 2016 a restaurant, gallery and research centre on a rural site in state college, pa in collaboration with ashton amspacker and ayman tafeeq
7 I did this project while on exchange in the USA, studying at the Pennsylvania State University. We were asked to present a project that included a restaurant, a cidery and a education hub for the State College/Ferguson Township communities. The promenade is linked to an existing prominent hiking trail, while the urban approach is linked to vehicular circulation, being the highway. The three proposed buildings are direct reactions to three local agricultural study models that inspired the creation of each.

The buildings are focussed on water collection and distribution throughout the farm, reallocating rain water and soil water into water-depleted soil zones providing further future expansion for the farm’s vegetation.

The project responds to the absence of community platforms within State College area, and surrounding counties. Resulting is an architecture that is deeply rooted in the local culture, providing opportunities and destinations tailored to a specic set of the community’s characteristics.

Modelling was an enormous part of our methodology - we made sketch models, laser cut planning models, as well as cast a 1:20 wall model and full size details.

Plug-in Poetry was an urban and architectural response to the classic fridge magnet poetry. Taking it’s namesake from Archigram’s Plug-in City, the temporary installation provoked interaction and engagement amongst passers-by, challenging how we construct and use urban space. Each poetry block was of different length and of a range of colours, and has a different individual word on one side. The project encouraged collaborations between strangers, and developed a ‘neighbourhood’ through a creative and engaging game.

christchurch: the revived city 2015 an immersive summer school investigating the prospects for inner city housing, memorial, and a central library in collaboration with benjamin laurensen and steven yiavasis

In 2015, VUW ran an collaborative studio at CPIT in Christchurch, a learning experience over the summer. Students from four different schools of architecture were able to engage with Christchurch in the heart of the city, and learn from the major players in the rebuild. We were able to present our ideas for the iminent library project, what to do with the cathedral, and how the city might address inner city housing on the east frame.

2017 Painting and drawing have been long time hobbies, but only a pursuit on a truly regular basis. Watercolour and pencil drawing have become a primary way of working, analysing and documenting a true interaction and understanding of buildings, nature and people.
