Knitting Needle Size and What Type of Yarn to Use with Them Size 0 (2mm) generally used with fingering or lace weight yarn (0 and 1). Project 1: Garter Stitch “Sandwich” Sweater Final Measurements 38 Inch (96 cm) Bust, (40, 42, 44 in.). 23 Inches (58 cm) Long. Materials Size 15 (10 mm) 36” (90 cm) Circular Needle. 600 yds of Super Bulky Yarn (6). For this project I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, 6 skeins, 87 yards per skein, in color Camouflage. Gauge 2 st= 1 inch Notes This garment is knit from the top down using the garter stitch. To make this piece you should be able to cast on, know the basic knit stitch, and know how to bind off. Pattern (Make Two) On size 15 (10 mm) Needles CO 96 (100, 104, 108) stitches. Do garter stitch until piece measures 8 ¼” (20 cm), then bind off 30 (32, 36, 40) stiches, 66 (70, 74, 78) stitches remain, knit until end of row. On the next row bind off first 30 (32, 36, 40) stitches, then knit reaming 36 stitches until piece

Pattern: Body of Sweater (Make Two) Using size 10 needles CO 82 (86, 90, 94) stitches. Do hunter rid until piece measures 21” flat, bind off the first 20 stitches of the row. After you have bound off the first 20 stitches 62 stitches will remain, at this point begin knitting in rib stitch for the next 42 stitches until 20 stitches remain, then bind off the remaining stitches. Hold the ribbed knit stitches on a needle. Hold the stitches onto needle until you are finished with second half of tunic. Then knit neck in same stitch with 84 stitches left on needles, knitting in the round.

Project 2: Sleeveless Turtleneck Sweater- A Sweater in Three Parts Final Measuements 40” Bust, 21” ln. (42, 44, 46 in.). Materials 2 size 10 circular needles Medium Worsted Weight Acrylic Wool Mohair Yarn in Grey White Tweed. 570 yards for body, for neck. Bought from www.iloveyarn.com. Alternative yarns: Guage 4 st= 1 inch Stitch Explanation Hunter Rib Stitch Row 1:K2,P2 until end of row. Row 2: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. Repeat. Knitting in the Round Join stitches together on one needle. Then knit around the needles, instead of knitting back and forth. Notes Knit from the bottom to the top.

Join stitches together and knit in the round in stitch indicated. Pattern CO 64 St (68, 72, 76 st) on sz 9 needles Do rib stitch for 1 ½ inches Knit the following row Then begin pattern. When piece measures 22” knit first 12 (16, 20, 24) st in pattern, bind off next 40 st, continue knitting in pattern for final 12 st. Following row, Knit in pattern first 12 st, CO 40 st, knit in pattern final 12 (16, 20, 24) st. Continue in Irish Moss Stitch for rest of piece. When piece measues 40 ½ inches. Pattern for Sleeves (Make 2) CO 58 St (62, 66, 70 st). Do rib stitch until piece measures 2 inches, then knit one row. Continue in Irish Moss stitch until piece measures 9 inches and bind off.

Project 3: Cinnamon Summer T-shirt Final Measurements 38 in. bust (40, 42, 44 in.), 23 in.length. Materials Worsted weight yarn. Sz. 9 needles

Collar Drop neck onto neckline by picking up 80 stitches near collar, and using Rib Stitch knit for 1” and bind off.

Gauge 3.45 st= 1 inch Stitch Explanation Irish Moss Stitch Row 1: K1, P1 until end of row. Row 2: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. Row 3: K1, P1 until end of row. Row 4: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. Row 5: P1, K1 until end of row. Row 6: Purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches. Row 7: P1, K1 until end of row. Row 8:Purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches. Repeat Rows 1- 8. Drop Collar Pick up indicated amount of stitches from edge of neck. 6


Row 4: Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches until the 41st stitch, make 1 stitches then P1, K1. Row 5: Knit 2, Purl 2, continue this pattern until the end of row. Row 6: Purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches. Row: 7: Bind off the first 4 stitches and knit the remaining stitches until the end of row. Join the needles together, being careful not to twist the yarn, begin knitting in the round, place a safety pin at this point for reference. Round 8: Knit round Round 9: Knit round making one stitch every 5 stitches eight times, 48 stitches remain Round 10-11: Knit Round 12-16: Purl Round 17-20: Knit Round 21- 25: Purl Round 26- 29: Knit After you have completed the 4th repetition of pattern, or when you have come o row 42? Begin the following pattern: Row 43: Knit stitch, K2tog every three stitches, this will leave you with 36 stitches Row 44: Knit round Row 45: K2tog every 3 stitches, you will be left with 30 stitches Row 46: Knit round Row 47: Purl round, P2tog every 2 stitches until you are left with 22 stitches At this point you should begin using your double pointed needles. Row 48: Purl Round Row 49- K2tog every other stitch until you are left with on stitch, bind off.

Project 4: Bee-Hive Hat Final Measurements 20 in. circumference, approximately 10 in. long. Materials Size 13 needles, 16 inch circular Size 13 Double Pointed Needles Bulky yarn, WET&Q LBY Large button, 1 ½ inches or 2 inches in diameter Yarn or thread that matches button Needle Large safety pins to keep track of rows Gauge 2 at= 1 in. Stitch Explanation Make a stitch Button hole Welt Stitch- knit four rows, purl 5 rows. Pattern CO 44 stitches, do rib stitch. Follow the pattern below: Row 1: Knit 1, Purl 1, continue this pattern until the end of row. Row 2: Purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches. Row 3: K1, P1 then bind off the 3rd stitch, purl the next stitch and continue the established rib pattern until end of row. 7


Back With size 8 needles CO 56 (60, 64, 68) stitches. Do seed stitch. Row 1: K1, P1 until end of row. Row 2: Knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches. When piece measures 15 inches bind off. Front Panel (make two) Using size 8 needles CO 32 (36, 40, 44) st. Do seed stitch. Row 1: K1, P1 until end of row. Row 2: Knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches. When piece measures 15 inches and bind off. Construction Sew the shoulders together, leaving an inch of the neckline unsewn. Sew the sides together, leaving 8- 10 inches unsewn to accomodate your arms.

Project 5: Fringed Bolero Finished Measurements 38 (40, 42, 44) in bust Materials Worsted weight black yarn, 600 yards. Size 8 needle, long needle or circular needles. Crochet hook. Gauge 3.25 st= 1� Stitch Explanation Seed Stitch Row 1: K1, P1 until end of row. Row 2: P1, K1 until end of row. Continue this pattern until end of piece. Tassels Using a crochet hook pull strands of yarn (or other material) through a stitch on the border of piece, then form a loop with the yarn and pull the rest of the strands through the loop; pull closed. Cut yarn to be twice as long as your tassel. Then take 3 pieces of this pre-cut yarn and, using a crochet hook, pull the yarn through stitch of finished piece. Fold the strands of yarn together so that they are even, and then tie a knot at the base of the stitch. 8


4 rows of white yarn 6 rows of yellow yarn 4 rows of white yarn When you are finished with this pattern switch to the turquoise yarn and knit in rib stitch until the entire piece measures 23 ½ inches long (or length of your choice) and bind off. Sleeves (Make Two) CO 30 (34, 38, 42) inches. Do rib stitch until piece measures 2 inches. Then begin stockinette stitch, add one stitch to each end. When piece measures 3 inches add one stitch to each side every inch rows 16 times. AT THE SAME TIME: When piece measures 6 ½ inches begin stripe pattern. Bind off when piece measures 18 inches, should be 64 (68, 72, 76) stitches left. 17 (18, 19, 20) inches for arm hole Sleeve should measure 18 inches- or length of your choice..

Project 6: Retro Stripes Sweater Finished Measurements 38 in bust. 23 1/2 in long.

Construction Sew piece together inside out. Meaure the sweaterr’s sleeves at their largest point and divide in two; then measure that distance from the top of the sweater down the side and place a safety pin. This will mark where you need to sew the shoulder to the bodt of the sweater. Using the tapestry needle, or large eyed blunt needle, sew the piece together at the shoulders, leaving space for your neck. Then sew the sleeves onto the body of the sweater. After you have sewn the shoulders onto the sweater sew the sides together.

Materials Size 10 needles Brown Sheep Wool Company Lamb’s Pride Worsted 4 oz (113 grams) 1 skein Spiced Gingerbread (190 yds or 173 M) 1 skein Aztec Turquoise 5 skeins Oatmeal 1 skein Lemon Drop Gauge 3.6 st= 1 inch Back and Front CO 66 (70, 74, 78) stitches. Do rib stitch for 1 ½ inches, then continue in stockinetette stitch. When piece measures 9 ½ inches begin the following pattern: 6 rows of orange yarn 4 rows of white yarn 6 rows of yellow yarn 4 rows of white yarn 6 rows of turquoise yarn 4 rows of white yarn 6 rows of orange yarn 9

Final Measurements

Materials Size 13 Needles (9 mm) long needles. Super Bulky (6) Yarn in Coral color, 300 yards. Cable hook Size N-13 (9mm) Crochet Hook Scissors

Stitch Explanation

Gauge 4.35 st= 1 inch

C4F (Cable Stitch) Slide 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in them in the front of the piece, knit two stitches and then knit the two stitches held on cable needle.

Tassels Cut 40 thirteen inch pieces on yarn. Take two 13 inch pieces of yarn and fold in half. Take your crochet hook and stick it through a loop the bottom edge of your scarf, place the middle of the two piece of yarn in the hook of the crochet hook. Pull two pieces of yarn through loop in the knitted edge, when both strips of yarn are even tie a knot. Divide the strands into piles, one for each tassel that you need. Project 9: Car Coat Materials Six Balls of Super Bulky Yarn in Raspberry color, or color of your choice, approximately 2000 yds, (2800 m). 1 Ball DK Weight of similar colored yarn. Three Size 13 (9 mm) Circular Needles, two 24� one 16�. Large eyed blunt needle. Six 2 inch buttons.

Stitch Explanation Hunter Rib Stitch Row 1: K2, P2 until end of row. Row 2: Purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches. Repeat Rows 1-2. Stockinette Stitch Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Repeat Rows 1-2.

Make sure the pieces are the same size.

Continue in this pattern until piece measures 25 inches on the wrong side of piece bind off 10 stitches, P7 st and K5 stitches, keep these stitches on a needle and put piece to the side

Front Right Side

CO 24 stitches Do Hunter Rib for 2� then do the following pattern: Row 1: Purl 19 stitches, knit last final 5 stitches Row 2: Knit 3 stitches, bind off 3rd stitch, knit the remaining 19 stitches.
