This book is a daily exploration of yellow light at different times of the day, and especially a record of it’s relationship with different colors, surfaces and objects.

We may not see the full range of color in our surroundings because we are immersed in it at all times, and yellow is the color that we take for granted most of all. It could be because of it’s tendency towards transparency, or the fact that sunlight itself is yellow.
early morning light Yellow is a powerful color - just a drop will brighten up any hue. Since yellow and violet are the most contrasting of all complementaries, they require 3:1 proportion for a harmonious color scheme. In this photo the color proportion is around 3:1 violet to light yellow. Also included is a light neutral, which is created from combining tints of the complementary set.
sunlight pattern I developed a pattern using triangles and hexagons to represent the feeling of sunlight reflecting off of glass. Adding the warm analagous color scheme gives the pattern a distinct sunlight feeling. For my pattern application, I envision a bright space with floor to ceiling windows, such as a playroom for children. The transparent pattern is painted on or adheres to the windows in a way so that maximum light can shine through.

neutrals An interesting color harmony arises when two complementaries are mixed. In this example, yellow brightens up the violet hue to create a warm, earthy, rich chocolate.
These hand-crafted pottery pieces from Atelier NL are sourced from different farms in the Netherlands. The various pottery colors are all found in the natural soils in different parts of the region: There is yellow earth in Brunssum, a smooth and shiny dark brown in Woerden, and a rough terra cotta in Gilze-Rijen.
