Camp Fatima of New Jersey is run by volunteers and funded completely by donations and fundraising. It is a weeklong camp for disabled children. Every year no more than 70 children attend one of the two weeks the camp is run and more than 200 people volunteer. Volunteers act in multiple capacities – from the cooks to the lifeguards to the people cleaning the bathrooms everyone is a volunteer. I had the pleasure of volunteering at camp this year. From the volunteers to the kids, the entire week was spent getting to know wonderful people and having fun. Everyday there was a new theme, which generated a new activity. Some days it was a petting zoo, drive – in movie, or fireworks. The absolute best part was the singing and dancing after meals. It was a wonderful experience that I am eternally grateful I had. International Programs The International Programs Committee is in charge of bringing information about service partners to the Lieutenant Governors of each division, so they can bring it back to their clubs. Our service partners include March of Dimes, UNICEF and the Children’s Miracle Network. The International Programs Committee also works to promote Key Leader and the Youth Opportunities Fund. The Youth Opportunity Fund is a way for clubs to get money and perform large scale service projects. Clubs can fill out an application online and get between $100-$2000 to facilitate their service project. Applications are due on October 15th. Service projects can range from reading books at the nursing home to building an entire playground. Involve your K-family and make the project as big as you want. Recruiting New Members Every September a fresh-faced, young group of students walks through every high school’s doors for the first time. Although, recruiting members from all grades is important and strongly encouraged, freshmen are often the prime targets of recruitment for Key Club. When freshmen get involved, they realize how wonderful Key Club is and often stick with it all four years of high school. Every club has their own way of attracting members, such as school-wide club fairs and freshmen orientation. These are prime places to get the word out about Key Club to the largest group of students at a time. Here are a few more ways to recruit members: 1.Hold a membership night event where students can pay their dues while also interacting with other members, playing games, and eating. 2.Offer an incentive to join such as a t-shirt or bracelet included in the dues payment.

3.Make a pamphlet or flyer advertising the projects and events your Key Club holds and district events such as Fall Rally and DCON. 4.Lastly, SMILE! If you look like you are having fun, students will be more willing to join.
