That’s Your Little Project
(A Motivational Phrase?) (Could Be?)
I, (Steve) was replacing the ceiling in my bedroom, where the roof had leaked. I had the Plaster Board ready to put up and needed someone to hold the board while I put a few screws in it. It really was a two man job. Fay was home, so I asked her If she would help me hold the board while I secured it to the ceiling . She said “No, That’s Your Little Project”. That made me so angry, that I went into my bedroom and closed the door. I began to repeat that phrase over and over in my head. It’s all I could think of. That’s your little project, that’s your lit tle project. All of a sudden I thought, Fay is right. This is my little project. I don’t want your help, I don’t need your help and I’ll find a way to fix it, without your help. I went in the shed and got 4,
2x4s. I carefully propped up the ceiling board and got it secured. When I finished, I was Proud. It really looked like a professional job and I did it on my own without any help. All through the years, when little projects would arise, I heard those words, like they had just been spoken. “That’s Your Little Project” The words did help, because when I thought I needed someone to help me, I always seemed to find a way to complete the task alone. I often won dered, in later years if Fay’s words, which seemed so harsh at the time, had ac tually been said to make me more self-reliant and independent ? She always backed me up and stood beside me, in every aspect of my life. If we fought, we would always makeup and
never went to bed mad. That’s what makes up a good relationship. Caring, Respect and Love is what Fay & I had for 43 years. I think of, love her and miss her everyday.
