little Mexican kids, now a block away, still running as fast as they could go. We both broke out in laughter, just watching their re action, with them still running to get away. Well, that broke the ice, all was forgiven and all was forgotten. I told Fay, well YOU, alone may have just set back Mexican, American rela tions 10 years. We went back to the Flea Market and then to the beautiful white, sandy beach of Cozumel Mexico. Fay spotted a vacant Hammock, stretched between 2 Palm trees. She told me, “that looks so peaceful and restful.” I’m gonna’ go get in that. Fay managed the balancing and boarding of the Hammock just fine, with no problems at all. Lit tle by little, the Hammock strings began to stretch and stretch, then slowly sink lower & lower to the ground. Before she knew it, Fay, still in the Hammock, was sitting on the sand. I could hear her say in the background, “Well I’ll just be Da__ed.” I turned, walked over to one of the picnic tables on the beach and with my back to Fay, chuckled, a very muffled laugh, as my Wife, sat in the White Sand on the ground be hind me. It was a good trip and a good time, filled with Memories that have lasted 25 years or more. The Lesson I learned from that trip was: Never, Never, ever men tion your wife’s Weight, but more importantly....Enjoy the Plea sures & Treasures of each Day..... because, before you know it, they CAN Vanish, in an

ay & I booked a Carnival Cruise to Mexico. Entertain ment on Board Ship was, none other than a young, Whoopie Goldberg. Before the Movies and Notoriety, Whoppie worked lounge acts on cruise ships, as a Stand-up Comic. She was there shaking hands & greeting guests every time they disembarked the Ship, by way of the small Ferry Boats bound for shore. Whoppie was shak ing hands and when she came to Fay, she shook her hand and said “You’re going to have Fun on the Beach today.” Fay answered, I Might! Whoppie, while laughing, took her finger, pointed to Fay and said, “Fay I can tell... YOU are GO ING to be Trouble.” Little did she know how true her words were. As we walked down the board walk, we could see, to the right, was the beach and to the left, was an out door Flea Market, with every kind of Souvenir that you could dream of. Mexican Children began to surround us, trying to sell us cheap jewelry. You could hear over and over, hey Lady, have Beautiful Rings, pretty Necklace, to make you feel good. Will sell you Ring, Cheap, $5 Dollar, pretty Ring, $5 Dolla. No, No, I don’t want a Ring. O. K. Lady, just for you $3 Dolla, just $3 Dolla, for beautiful ring. We just kept moving forward, silently, not speaking, until final ly, they lost interest and left us
alone. While at the Flea Market, Fay saw a Bright, Multi-Colored, Long Mexican Dress on a thin Mannequin. She commented to Me, that dress is Beautiful. I made the fatal, Husband’s mistake of saying, “Fay, that’s made for a real thin person, you couldn’t wear that.” Angry does not cov er the Rage that Fay was feel ing in that moment. She looked at me, with daggers in her eyes, that could have killed the Incredi ble Hulk. Then, very loudly she yelled....I DIDN’T SAY I WANTED TO BUY IT FOR MYSELF. I JUST SAID IT WAS PRETTY. YOU CAN STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO, BUT I’M GO ING BACK TO THE BOAT!

opened September 5, 1955 in Avondale Estates, Geor gia. Her longest and Favorite Employment was with Waffle House in many different lo cations. She made sure that all her Customers got ex actly what they needed and what they ordered. She had a steel trap Mind and Memory that remembered Custom ers names and all the sto ries they told her about their Children. She would recall and ask about those details when the customers returned. Good Service, Good Mem ory, and a Genuine Caring Attitude, made her custom ers want only her to wait on them. People would line up and wait to be waited on by Fay, even though there were plenty of booths open in the other Waitresses section. In her employment with Golden City Hosiery Mill, as Supervisor, she had that Deep, Loud, Voice of Authority, that demanded Respect and Loy alty. She was put to the test and was forced to fire several employees. But then realizing that actions had consequenc es, everyone else under her command, began to fall in line.

a private caregiver and sitter, She really showed her True Character, Expertise and Compassion for others. She was quick witted, fast on her feet, and could han dle any situation that arrived. Usual ly around 8:00 p.m. Residents would start (Sundown ing), wanting to go home. Fay would always, have a made up fantasy, ready to satisfy and comfort her patients, make them relax, melt into their environ ment and want to go to Bed. She would tell them a wonderful story to make them want to stay. One example is: You can’t go home tonight, because your room at home is being painted. That is why you are here with us. Tomor row morning, your Mother is coming, first thing, to pick you up. “She is coming to pick me up, first thing tomorrow?” Yes, Honey she is, but you have to stay here tonight with us and rest. If they still resist ed, Fay would say: Do you want me to call your Mother and tell her, just how ugly you are acting tonight? The Re sponse was usually...
