DES MOINES FEDERAL COURTHOUSE CONCEPT STATEMENT: LAW, LIVING, AND LIFESTYLE. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO TACKLE THE YEARS LONG DISPUTE OF THE PLACEMENT OF THE NEW DES MOINES FEDERAL COURTHOUSE, BUT INCLUDES BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL SPACES ALONGSIDE IT IN ORDER OT PLEASE BOTH THE CITY AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SITE. THIS SEPARATE, YET CONNECTED SCHEME CREATES A SPACE FOR CIVIC ACTIVITY, WHILE FORMING A SOCIAL HUB ALONG THE RIVERFRONT. GOALS AND DELIVERABLES: - COLLABORATE WITH TEAM OF ARCHITECTS AND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS TO DESIGN THE NEW DES MOINES FEDERAL COURTHOUSE ALONG THE DESIGNATED DES MOINES RIVERFRONT SITE. - DESIGN ACCORDING TO GSA COURT DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR SPECIAL PROCEEDINGS, DISTRICT, MAGISTRATE, AND BANKRUPTCY COURTROOMS. - COMBINE COURT PROGRAM ON SITE WITH AN APARTMENT BLOCK WITH VARYING TYPES , COMMERCIAL SPACES, AND LAW LIBRARY PROGRAM WHILE STILL ADHERING TO COURT SECURITY CODES. - USE THE SITE TO LIVEN UP THE RIVERWALK, CREATE AN ICON IN THE DES MOINES SKYLINE, AND RELATE TO THE SURROUNDING GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS. - COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL ARCHITECTURE FIRMS, DISTRICT COURT JUDGES, AND GSA TO UNDERSTAND THE PROGRAM AND SECURITY TO DEVELOP THE PROJECT.

BRODHEAD-BELL-MORTON MANSION: L’AMBASSADE FRANÇAISE CONCEPT STATEMENT: SITUATED ON EMBASSY ROW OF WASHINGTON DC, THIS MANSION WAS DESIGNED IN 1879 BY JOHN FRASER AND THEN COMPLETELY REBUILT IN 1912 IN THE BEAUX-ARTS STYLE BY JOHN RUSSELL POPE. IT’S NAME COMES FROM A NUMBER OF FAMOUS OCCUPANTS INCLUDING ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL, THE RUSSIAN EMBASSY, AND US VICE PRESIDENT LEVI P. MORTON. FOR MANY YEARS NOW, THE HOME HAS SAT IN DISREPAIR. DUE TO ITS PROMINENT LOCATION AND HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE, THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO TURN THE HOME INTO THE FRENCH EMBASSY, WHICH CURRENTLY SITS OUTSIDE THE CITY AND IS IN NEED OF A MORE DISTINGUISHED SPACE IN WHICH TO SHOWCASE THEIR HERITAGE, PRESTIGE, AND CULTURE. RISIVI FLAGSHIP STORE CONCEPT STATEMENT: FORMED FROM THE FUSION OF HISTORIC AND MODERN ELEMENTS, THE RISIVI FLAGSHIP STORE WILL CREATE AN INSTROPECTIVE AND POWERFUL ENVIRONMENT BY CULTIVATING THE ABSENCE OF TIME. THE STORE WILL CONCEAL THE SECRETS AND MEMORIES OF THE BRAND BY ENTICING THE INDIVIDUAL’S MOVEMENT THROUGH SPACE AND TIME. THE DESIGN WILL BE ENHANCED THROUGH THE USE OF LAYERS OF LIGHT AND TRADITIONAL ITALIAN MATERIALITY TO HIGHTLIGHT THE PRODUCT AND LINK THE BRAND BACK TO ITS ROMAN ROOTS. GOALS AND DELIVERABLES: - COLLABORATE WITH MARIA RAISSA RISIVI, ITALIAN FASHION DESIGNER FROM IED ROMA, TO DESIGN A FLAGSHIP STORE THAT CAPTURES THE RISIVI BRAND. - DESIGN THE STORE ACCORDING TO THE GIVEN SITE IN LAGO DI TORRE ARGENTINA IN THE CENTER OF ROME AND ADHERE TO ROMAN ACCESSIBILITY AND UNESCO PRESERVATION CODES. - TRAVEL TO PARIS TO STUDY SHOP WINDOW DESIGN WITH THE DESIGNERS OF HEREMS, LOUIS VUITTON, AND FENDI. - LEARN HOW TO DO DETAIL DRAWINGS AND CREATE A DETAIL DRAWINGS SET FOR ALL OF THE CUSTOM DISPLAY ELEMENTS.

IN THE NEXT ROOM SET DESIGN CONCEPT STATEMENT: THE SET FOR “IN THE NEXT ROOM” CREATES THREE PLANES FOR THE THREE STAGES OF THE CONFLICT TO OCCUR IN, AS WELL AS SUGGEST THE STAGE OF CONFLICT WITH LIGHTING OPPORTUNITIES. A BACK SET SCREEN GIVES THE SET NO DEFINED BACK WALL AND OFFERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO USE THE SCREEN TO PROJECT LIGHT AND WEATHER, TWO COMMON FORMS OF SYMBOLISM FOUND IN “IN THE NEXT ROOM”. THE SET IS DECORATED IN TYPICAL LATE 1800’S UPSTATE NEW YORK FURNISHINGS AND FINISHES.
GOALS AND DELIVERABLES: - DESIGN A SET IN FISHER THEATER FOR THE PLAY “IN THE NEXT ROOM” BY SARAH RUHL FOR THE THEATER DEPARTMENT AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY. - DEVELOP FULL SET OF PLANS AND SET BUILD/ STRIKE SCHEDULE. - DEVELOP THEATRICAL LIGHTING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.

IIDA BOOTH ORGATEC 2018 CONCEPT STATEMENT: IIDA WORKS TO BRING DESIGNERS TOGETHER TO IGNITE PASSIONATE CONVERSATIONS THAT REACH EVERY CORNER OF THE PROFESSION. THE BOOTH BRINGS THE IIDA FORUM TO LIFE BY POSING THE QUESTION “WHY DO YOU DESIGN?” IN ORDER TO INSPIRE INTROSPECTION AND GENUINE, PERSONAL CONNECTIONS. INDIVIDUALS CAN LEAVE THEIR PERSONAL MARK, WHETHER IT BE IN THE FORM OF A SKETCH, A WRITTEN THOUGHT ON THE CUSTOM GRAPHIC WALL, OR LEAVING A LITTLE NAPKIN DRAWING. THESE FEATURES PAVE THE WAY FOR CURRENT AND POTENTIAL MEMBERS TO FEEL THEIR OWN INSPIRATION THROUGH THE PASSION AND THE THOUGHTS OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE THEM. THIS BOOTH EMBODIES THE IIDA NETWORK OF ADVICE AND KNOWLEDGE THAT SPANS GENERATIONS, TYPOLOGIES, AND EXPERIENCES OF DESIGNERS BY ALLOWING PEOPLE TO SHARE THEIR EXPRESSIVE, OPINIONATED, AND UNFILTERED SELVES THROUGH A SENSORY EXPERIENCE. GOALS AND DELIVERABLES: - ADHERE TO IIDA BOOTH DESIGN COMPETITION RULES AND PROMPT TO DESIGN THEIR BOOTH FOR THE 2018 ORGATEC TRADE SHOW. - USE ONLY VITRA PRODUCTS TO FURNISH THE BOOTH. - USE IIDA BRANDING GUIDLINES TO SHOWCASE THEIR IDENTITY. - DESIGN BOOTH NO BIGGER THAN 28 SQM WITH THREE CUSTOM DESIGN ELEMENTS. -PROVIDE CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS AND BOOTH PACKING AND SHIPPING DRAWINGS.
