Intime - The Memory Bench

UCA Canterbury New Dover Road Canterbury Kent CT1 3AN

Dear Sir / Madern, InTime are pleased to provide you this press kit to spread light upon our practice and our very first project. Last month, InTime installed a memory bench in Margate opposite Dreamland, which brought light to the now deserted Dreamland Amusement Park. InTime designed a temporary addition to an already existing bench, on the pavement opposite Dreamland. The new addition incorporated a back rest for the existing bench, which had MP3 players installed into it. The MP3 players were the most important elements of the bench, in the way that they played memories from the public, who remembered Dreamland before its closer in 2004. The whole idea of this project was to try to show the younger generation and people that were not familiar with Dreamland, that it’s existence played a large part in the success of Margate.

InTime Press Release

Description

The Memory Bench

This project involves capturing the publics memories of Dreamland from when it was open and succseful, and sharing them with people who are not familiar with Dreamland. We are designing and building a graft for an existing bench, opposite the Deamland Amusement Park building. This gaft is a self standing back rest, in which we will be fitting mp3 players too in order to play our audio memories of Dreamland. The reason for this new addition to the existing bench, is so that the public can sit back and look at the Dreamland building, while listening to the audio memories we have collected. As an extra we plan to hand out free CD’s of the memories, so that the public can share them with their families and friends.
