PORTFOLIO - ELIZA SALMAN

I am very passionate about design in its purest and most abstract form, where you can experience its essence with the five senses to engage with the surroundings. I am looking to work in a flexible and interactive environment that provides space for creativity, continuous learning and professional growth, where I can use my imagination, knowledge as well as my hands to produce livable spaces for people from all walks of life while staying in touch with nature. Office culture and design philosophy are aspects that are of high importance to me and I am looking to engage in a career that tackles social issues and works on empowering individuals and societies while improving the quality of living. 3

NORTH OF MUNICH INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

This project aims to create an inclusive landscape, offering solutions for both nature and people through restoring the peatlands and strengthening the green connections, improving accessibility for people with different capabilities and providing a variety of functions and activities covering different types of people.

NATURE SPORT EDUCATION

CULTURE

NATURE URBAN GARDENS

The Moosach river bed has been developed along the corridor from the Munich green belt reaching to the forests north of Freising, through restoring the peatlands to its original properties by changing parts of the land use into re-naturalized peatland, extensive and intensive grassland and organic agriculture, and creating green connection between the Isar river and the Amper river.

RInclusive design and accessible landscape for everybody. In this section different design solutions have been illustrated aiming to include our main ava avatars covering all human capabilities: sensory, cognitive and physical. One criterion was to create physical conditions to facilitate accessibility of the landscape, such as green bridges and foot paths that are suitable for people with limited physical capabilities as well as users with special equipment such as wheelchairs or baby strollers, or elements, signs and landmarks that improve legibility and wayfindingin the landscape.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Another criterion was to create different possibilities for different types of people to attract them into the area and activate it in different seasons, such winter sport possibilities, temporary housing units, Paralympic competitions, horseback riding, social gatherings, urban gardening, and skydiving. For people with very limited capabilities, simulation centers for virtual reality experiences. VIEW Competition results and Posters VIEW Publication (Page 60-64)

Ahrntal, located in the north east of South Tyrol, is part of the Central Alps. The more wide valley from Bruneck to Sand in Taufers transforms to a V-shape valley in the area of Luttach. Steep slopes, that have ice-covered summits of more than 3000 m dominate this region. The precipitation is 800 mm in the area of Luttach-St. Johan and increases as the elevation goes higher. The average climate temperature is around 6-7°C. Causes by cold winds and a big amount of snow, the climate in winter is hard. Nevertheless, Ahrntal has opportunities, and the project attempts to improve them.

Agroforestry Possible trees for agroforestry: Acer Pseudoplatanus, Alnus, Populus Tremulo, Salix, Quercus Robur, Castanea Sative, Juglans Regia. Small paths through the fields are safer than going along the main roads. These tracks are also more attractive and enjoyable for people. Harvest of grain will reinforce the local economy and culture.

14

Hedges are imporant for the biodiversity of species. The coppice of hedges can be used as a source for renewable energy.

Silvapasture is the combination of trees and meadows where the cattle can graze and give them protection and shadow.

It is important to make locals and tourists aware of the changes in the landscape and why they’re made.

To achieve our improvement of connection, three scenarios were created. The first one specializes in the connection of the landscape. The second scenario improves public transportation system and introduces new, more sustainable connections. The last scenario focuses on the connectivity of activities and businesses both physically and virtually, with the focus on culture, heritage and alternative tourism. A finaly map with the best elements of the three secenarios were implementend around the city of Sand in Taufers. All these interventions e.g. a new railway, car-free centre of the city, opportunities for renewable energy, new hike and path bikes are connecting the people and the landscape with eacht other in a way that both will have profit in a sustainable way. IHC - IRBID HOUSE OF CULTURE

17

IHC - IRBID HOUSE OF CULTURE The project “Irbid house of culture” is a municipal institution with a program that enables the public culture and civic awareness through everyday use. The building houses the municipal department of building permits in Irbid’s historic downtown area in addition to community facilities such as meeting rooms, auditoriums, exhibition spaces, and a café. The design of Irbid House of Culture should respects Irbid’s past, interact with its present and projects a desired image of the future. This explains the selection of the project’s site in the historic center of Irbid which includes the historic old Nabulsi House. A main design challenge is, therefore, to develop a modern expression that is sensible to the site’s historical fabric and its particulars.

Flow

This project was designed according to Bagua which symbolizes how the environment is connected to life, and it defines the characteristics and main design elements that should be available in each section. The garden is surrounded by a natural buffering barrier of trees and shrubs of various heights and characteristics to reduce noise, pollution ad well as undesired cold and dusty winds, easing the flow of air while still creating a gentle breeze to ventilate the garden and the house. Design of different elements and features as well as placement of plants is organic in form with different levels to facilitate the flow of energy through the garden and into the house, making the general feel of the garden harmonious and pleasant. A small pond was created at the back side of the garden as a visual continuation to the existing water body outside the plot in order to invite more positive energy in along with acting as a watering and fertilizing agent to the vegetable garden.

EA HEADQUARTER AND INVESTMENT 27

EA HEADQUARTERS AND INVESTMENT In game design, EA draws on the parallel elements between architecture and video games, including light, colour, movement, scale, texture and nature and from there Electronic Arts headquarters is a project where advanced building techniques and architecture meet entertainment, gaming, business development and investment in an integrated theme of building systems. As an extension to EA’s policies and commitment continuous education, growth and development, this project design provides a professional environment for EA employees from the development department to showcase their products to the public while interacting with each other as well as the public to maximize efficiency and workability of products and relevance to the market, in addition to develop personally and professionally in the various workshops, libraries, gaming centers and technologically advanced computer and IT development labs within the headquarters.

Within this project advanced and complex building design strategies where investigated in an attempt to integrate architectural, structural, and mechanical systems. Smart systems were incorporated to reduce electricity consumption and CO2 impact, some examples of the systems are like low-E smart glass to control internal temperatures and decrease reliance on heating and cooling, Floor tiles that light up and generate electricity from pressure from human activity in high traffic public areas. The tower enjoys mechanical floor at equal intervals to service all floor levels effectively, a and a tuned mass damper (TMD) which has a simple mechanism with simple components, takes up low high as no suspension mechanism is used and works on two axis, all for effective control of tower sway and reduce earthquake impact.

The product design division is live museums where people view the production process of employees is their creative hubs, as well as enjoy the interactive library where one can see and use the production of the company from their first releases to the newest ones. The investment and business tower is part of the development zone that includes a hotel, restaurants, and offices where all the administrative business, production, marketing and distribution related functions take place, where ideas are translated into packaged products on the market shelves for consumers to enjoy.

MIXED-USE APARTMENT BUILDING

33

MIXED-USE APARTMENT BUILDING Zoning

Living spaces are the core of architecture and one of the essential units in architecture. What people call home is a basic necessity for every human being and a crucial part of society. Therefore, homes are places that should be safe, comfortable and flexible, providing space for individuality, self-expression and communication.

Mass Development

This design provides six different units for single, two and three bedroom apartments. Moreover, the construction is a mixed-use building providing a restaurant, a supermarket, a recreational area containing a gym and a swimming pool as well as building community space, and meeting area. Additionally, a courtyard for improving circulation and air quality as well as a roof garden for residents and as a climatic control solution.
