ocus. Things become clearer. Goals become more tangible. Your future seems a little more attainable. And that’s what FutureScape Spring is all about. Focus on people, focus on technology, focus on sustainability. Following the success of our superbly attended FutureScape event in November 2018, we wanted to add a spring footprint to the FutureScape pathway. FutureScape Spring will bring a new twist to your landscape calendar – something for both the previous attendee and the first-timer, with a seminar programme and exhibitor range bursting with all the inspiration you’ve come to expect from a FutureScape event. We’ll be shining a spotlight on the topics that matter most to you as you manage your business and promote your products, services and offers within the UK landscape realm. Supported by a host of familiar faces as well as some new names – exhibitors, speakers and contributors alike – the Spring event will once again weave the
sectors of landscaping, garden design, landscape architecture, procurement, arboriculture and grounds maintenance into a one-day spectacular. FutureScape Spring will be joined at Sandown Park by plants@work and the Royal Horticultural Society, leading horticultural and landscaping organisations who will each have their own focused Zones, content and events. Add to that the Relaxation Zone – a beautifully designed garden-scape in which to spend a moment to reflect, breathe and recharge, as well as the anticipated announcement of the inaugural Podium Awards, and FutureScape Spring will be the stand-out event of your spring programme. The location, familiarly brilliant agenda and a live debate programme will inspire, excite and challenge. You’d be hard pushed to spend a more rewarding day learning, laughing and loving while surrounded by the UK landscape industry. Be early, be first and be focused at FutureScape Spring – Tuesday 12 March from 9am - 5pm at Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey.

By Car
By Train Esher Rail Station is just a 10-minute walk from the main entrance of Sandown Park Racecourse. Visitors should turn left out of the station onto Station Road and then right at the T-junction to join the A307 Portsmouth Road. The entrance to Sandown Park is on the right hand side. Alternatively, there is a taxi rank at the rail station for those less able to walk. Please note that Esher rail station is located outside of Zones 1–6 and that Oyster Cards are not valid when travelling to Esher. A paper ticket must be purchased in advance of travelling.

From London, take the A3 and follow the brown venue signs to Sandown Park. Exit onto the A307 and continue to follow the brown venue signs. Alternatively, from the M25, exit at Junction 10 and follow the A3 towards London before exiting onto the A307 and following the brown venue signs. If you’re using a Sat Nav, please enter ‘Portsmouth Road’ rather than the Sandown Park postcode – this will bring you to our main car park which is just off the A307 (Esher High Street) and is directly in front of the main entrance. For electric car users, there are four Polar “fast charge” points in operation in the main car park.
Parking Parking is free, with ample space for over 2000 cars. You can reach the car park from the A307 Portsmouth Road. Coach parking is also available at the same car park, and there are also allocated parking spaces for those with disabilities.

MEET THE TEAM Jim Wilkinson – Managing Director Jim launched FutureScape in 2012 following the huge success of the development of a new industry magazine, Pro Landscaper, back in 2011. Jim and his wife Lisa, together with their sons Jamie and Joe, started their media company Eljays44 early in 2011. Jim’s track record of developing successful business brands helped the magazine and event quickly establish themselves as the leaders in the landscape sector.
Lisa Wilkinson – Director With a career history in journalism, it was natural that Lisa would become the editor of Pro Landscaper at its launch and contribute to the FutureScape event when it was developed seven years ago. She believes that the success of the magazine and FutureScape comes from forming strong industry relationships built on trust and a true passion for landscaping and horticulture.
Jamie Wilkinson – Event Director Following the family tradition, Jamie decided on a career in the media world straight from college and was very keen to bring the family together to start the business in 2011. He drives new business ventures and has a great rapport with suppliers. Jamie has a positive, can-do attitude and loves nothing more than liaising with exhibitors, making sure everything is running smoothly on both build-up and show day.
Amber Bernabe – Head of Events Amber heads up the Eljays44 events team and has been with Eljays44 for almost five years now. She has a good understanding of the overall running of the business and knows all the ins and outs of co-ordinating the logistics for our events. She has come to know many of the exhibitors and central industry figures over the years, which always goes down well when she greets them personally as they arrive at the event.
Eljays44 Events Team The team behind the scenes of our events & exhibitions consists of: Natalie Trent, events experience co-ordinator, Ellie Wilkinson, events co-ordinator and Amy Daniel, office manager. They are responsible for putting together our seminar programmes and liaising with speakers, the look and feel of our events and responsible for exhibitor questions and queries to make sure everything runs smoothly. Expect to find them on reception desks and on information points at the show, ready to help when needed.

Jessica McCabe – Head of Sales Jess leads the Eljays44 sales team and is the first point of contact for advertising and exhibition space enquiries. She will be visiting exhibitors to make sure they include our magazines and events in their marketing campaigns, so that visitors to the show can follow up on products and services with ease.

INTRODUCING FUTURESCAPE SPRING C
an’t wait until November? Then you’re in luck! FutureScape Spring is here to kick-start the season. The ethos of FutureScape Spring is a focused approach – offering a focus on people, technology and sustainability. Jamie Butterworth, nurture editor at Pro Landscaper, has prepared an informative line-up of plant-themed seminars in the Plant Theatre. He’ll be covering everything from growing and showing plants to the impact of climate change on horticulture. In the Business and Technology zone you’ll find seminars on growing your company, advancements in technology and how the industry will have to adapt. We’re also pleased to welcome the RHS and Plants@Work to FutureScape Spring, who will be offering valuable sessions throughout the day. To start planning your day, head to page 17 for the full seminar programme. Exhibitors old and new will fill Surrey Hall. We’re excited to see brand-new companies join us, including Bannister Hall and Qube Outdoor Spaces. We will be hosting a variety of international exhibitors too, including ADEZZ, Lubbe & Sons (Bulbs) Ltd and Kilkenny Limestone Quarries Ltd. One of the biggest additions this time around is the Pro Landscaper Podium Awards, a new initiative launched by Pro Landscaper to

recognise podium landscaping projects. The awards will recognise and share the excellent work that defines the UK podium sector. Head to the Brasserie at FutureScape Spring from 12pm to see the winners announced. If it’s not broken, why fix it? Following on from the success of previous FutureScape events, FutureScape Spring will be taking place at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, Surrey. There will be the same helpful staff waiting to show you around, and plenty of options for food, drink and refreshments.

AWARDS CEREMONY
his year, plants@work will hold its Leaf Award Ceremony at the end of FutureScape Spring on 12 March in the Brasserie at Sandown Park Racecourse, Esher from 5pm until 6.30pm. Plants@work members were invited to submit entries by the end of November last year and during February the judges have been making visits to sites to assess their entries. There are five categories: • Design & Installation (in two cost brackets) • Maintenance (in two cost brackets) • Technician Awards • Special Projects (typically short term installations) • Christmas Installations As well as the opportunity to win a gold, silver or bronze award in both the Design & Installation and Maintenance categories, the judges also award a ‘Best Project’. Gold winners are awarded ‘Leaf Awards’. Technician Awards These awards celebrate our ‘unsung heroes’. Technicians are the backbone of our industry. They work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that installations remain in top condition. Their efforts remain at the heart of successful companies and plants@work is pleased to recognise not only their importance to the industry but also their dedication and excellence.
Special projects These usually short-term installations show the versatility of plants@work members. In the last few years we have seen projects between our members and Lush, The Healthy Cities Exhibition, IKEA, Clerkenwell Design Week, the Flower Council of Holland, Elton John’s Aids Foundation, MoreThan Insurance and many more. The Judges The judges are respected horticulturists who have no connections to plants@work other than experience of judging our awards. They are: Nicola Bristow, a horticultural advisor with a wealth of horticultural experience in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Greg Redwood, Head of Great Glasshouses and Horticultural Training Section at Kew Royal Botanic Gardens. He is responsible for the Kew Diploma, Kew Apprenticeship & Traineeship, horticultural interns and all horticultural training, as well as the running of the glasshouses. Greg is also an RHS judge, and chairs the tender stand judging panels at RHS shows. Rob Stirling, who trained in garden design and ran his own practice before joining the RHS where he has been a horticultural advisor for many years.

BIG IMPACT
small project BIG IMPACT
At Pro Landscaper we wanted to acknowledge and celebrate projects with a value of under £25k, the projects which we feel are just as important for the industry’s reputation as their larger counterparts. The small project BIG IMPACT awards highlight the small projects that often go unnoticed at the other awards within the landscaping community. These awards will be a real opportunity to celebrate excellence in the complexity and value of the many smaller schemes that are being created throughout the UK.
30 Under 30: The Next Generation The 30 Under 30: The Next Generation initiative was launched back in 2015 as a way of recognising the great work that young people across the horticulture and landscape sectors are putting into their career. Entering 30 Under 30: The Next Generation is a brilliant way to gain recognition for your own work or help someone else gain recognition for their work. Previous winners have expressed that winning the award is a wonderful way to progress their careers to the next step.

Pro Landscaper Podium Awards
Podium landscaping is one of the fasting growing areas of landscaping. Within urban areas of the UK, space is at a premium and with environmental pressure this specialism will continue to grow at a fast pace. Many developers are now incorporating roof gardens and green spaces within their developments, either as an enhancement or to drive up the value across both commercial and domestic developments. We created the concept of the Pro Landscaper Podium Awards to highlight, recognise and share the excellent work that is currently - or has been - at the forefront of the UK podium sector. Each entered project has now been judged and appraised by leading professionals within the industry, each looking for quality in design and construction so join us from 12pm in the Brasserie (Surrey Hall) to find out and celebrate with each of the winners of our five categories.
Pro Landscaper Business Awards Unlike the many great award ceremonies focused on celebrating specific projects in our industry the Pro Landscaper Business Awards recognises and celebrates the business aspect of these fantastic companies. The event is a chance to join industry colleagues and revel in the success of the great businesses shaping our industry during an afternoon of networking, good food and celebration. The awards boast over 18 categories across the whole sector, meaning there are more opportunities than ever to highlight the landscape industry’s greatest companies.

Climate Change and the Impact on the Horticultural Industry
How Technology Can Help with Recruitment and Development
Expected to be the most important and topical discussion of the day, this conversation will discuss the impact of global warming on the horticultural industry. Topics include how we think this will impact the way we garden and what we can do as an industry to help fight against the danger of the global climate crisis.
This panel chaired by Liam Colclough will be sharing their thoughts on recruitment and development, covering topics from producing job specifications to nurturing individuals’ skills to enhance their progression. The stigma surrounding the horticulture industry contributes to a skills shortage, and this panel will discuss how we can ensure that we are promoting our industry in the best possible way.
Guest speakers: Peter Gibbs, Dr Ross Cameron, Tim Edwards.

Triple layered for superior strength, not only is resin more aesthetically appealing, it is stronger and more durable than other surface options. IN ASSOCIATION WITH...
AWARDS For the UK’s domestic and commercial rooftop projects
Podium Awards
Podium landscaping is one of the fasting growing areas of landscaping. Within urban areas of the UK, space is at a premium and with environmental pressure this specialism will continue to grow at a fast pace. Many developers are now incorporating roof gardens and green spaces within their developments, either as an enhancement or to drive up the value, across both commercial and domestic developments.
The Relaxation Zone We’re on trend at FutureScape Spring, with our living coral colour theme as the perfect antidote to the buzz and bustle of the UK’s busiest landscaping event. Focusing the design world’s attention, the pink blush of living coral is the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2019, and we’re reflecting that throughout our Spring event. Neatly arranged in Zones – each with its own focus – FutureScape Spring is ablaze with coral highlights; nowhere more so than the brand new Relaxation Zone, imagineered by Debs Winrow and her Garden House Design team. A chill-out area with soft seating, soothing, natural and neutral backdrops, the Relaxation Zone is just that – somewhere to break out from the intensity of the Show, to kick back, meet, chat and breathe. Recharge, regroup, and even take a moment to browse through its botanical library of horticultural, landscape and design publications, giving you a flash of inspiration from traditional, modern and future-shaping content. The Relaxation Zone will come to life, borne from a blend of garden and landscape materials, plants, furniture and products, all gift-wrapped up in the height of landscape design. Take a comforting time-out in the Relaxation Zone at the event – we’ll be doing the same!

RHS The RHS are joining us for the day so that you can hear all about what it takes to create a successful garden at the ever popular RHS shows, from planting to logistics, to the ever-important question of funding and sponsorship. The seminar will be hosted by the RHS and include friends from the horticulture industry. Join them for an informative session on when, why and how to get into designing and building show gardens for RHS events from 10am in the RHS Zone.
Plants@work Plants@work are pleased to be working with the first Futurescape Spring event to host a full day of seminars aimed at the interior landscaping industry. These will look at a diverse range of subjects from trends and design to pest control, big trees and green walls and end with a panel discussion. Following these, we will also be celebrating plants@work members’ work throughout the past year with our Awards ceremony which will be held in the Brasserie from 5pm to 6.30 pm. Plants@work wish everyone involved with FutureScape Spring a successful show.
