NAME AT LEAST ONE QUALITY YOUR PARENTS INSTILLED IN YOU AS A CHILD

As a child my parents taught me that where there is a will there is a way. They taught me that if you are determined you can achieve success in life, you just have to persevere! They always told me that no one owes you anything you have to work for it, and so I have and still do. They taught the value of working towards your goals in life and career and that the sky is the limit. I saw my parents build a life that was comfortable for us from nothing but sheer determination and hard work. They taught us the value of pushing forward and that there’s always a solution to a problem, you just have to think outside the box at times. My parents went from being dirt poor to building a construction business that was successful. My parents worked so hard to give us a life they didn’t have themselves and they did.

AS A CHILD, WHOM DID YOU ADMIRE?

My mother, she showed me what real love was. I was raised watching her pour love and time into people. I saw how she helped so many women over the years and the impact that she had on their lives that still holds weight today. She taught me that loving people is a strength and a calling. I saw her transform so many lives including mine. She adopted me and never made me feel like I wasn’t her real child, on the contrary she treated me the same as her natural born children. That to me speaks volumes and to this day, she is my hero and I will forever be grateful to her!

WHAT WOMEN HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR CAREER?

Nikki Wolfe, a world renowned makeup artist has been one of my biggest influences in the way I approach makeup artistry. She is the queen of dewey radiant skin and I absolutely fell in love with her looks and techniques. I never liked the heavy foundation look and she taught me how to achieve beauty full coverage that still looks like skin in person and not just on camera. My advice is to constantly continue educating yourself in your field, there is never a moment in which we know everything. I’m a firm believer we have the ability to continually learn and improve no matter how great you are, that is true growth.

WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WANT TO BE THEIR OWN BOSS?

Don’t Give Up! Persevere, persevere, persevere, I can’t emphasize it enough. It’s extremely difficult starting a business and there will be lots of challenges, hard times, times where you want to give up but don’t. We all go through it and have been through it, you have to give it your all to be successful, to be a boss you have to willing and actually work harder than ever to achieve your goal!

WHAT DO YOU DO PROFESSIONALLY?

I’m a professional makeup artist of over 10 years. I started out in NYC practicing on anyone I could to gain skill and assisting other established makeup artist on editorial shoots. I soon started doing makeup on my own for editorials and fashion businesses. I then expanded to bridal as well. I also provide clients with one on one private makeup lessons as well to help them achieve a polished look that fits their lifestyles.

I help women understand their skin, features and what looks go with them, I like to show them how to accentuate their best features without looking overly done up or plastic. I don’t just apply makeup I take the time to explain to each client why I’m doing certain steps so they understand what works with their features. I believe everyone is beautiful in their own way and my job is to bring that beauty out in them!

THERE IS A BIG MOVEMENT AMONG FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS/PROFESSIONALS THAT LEAN TOWARD COLLABORATION VS. COMPETITION. HOW DO YOU SUPPORT WOMEN?

I have a saying, I’m not a hater, I’m a motivator. I don’t ever feel I’m competing with anyone because I believe we are all different and there are plenty of opportunities for everyone. Competitive behavior to me is a sign of insecurity and weakness, I believe in encouraging one another and building one another up. Everyone is a queen, just put on that crown!
