Mudslide and Paddlefest Weekend Get ready for a weekend full of mud, water, full body workouts and LOL-ing! June 18 brings the Mudslide and Paddlefest to Ellicottville, and you’ll want to be there. Holiday Valley’s annual Mudslide race challenges competitors to navigate 11 wet and wild obstacles, ending with the mudslide into a giant mud pit at the bottom of the Yodeler slope. Runners choose from 3.5 or 5.4 mile courses, both starting from Spruce Lake after a relaxing ride up on the chairlift. A kids’ race, a vendor village, an awesome after-party and plenty of prizes and awards to go around make this one of the can’t-miss events of the season. For more info, visit www. holidayvalley.com/mudslide. After the Mudslide, head over to Paddlefest from 4 to 8 p.m. Paddlefest, presented by Adventure Bound OnTheFly, takes place at the demo pond behind Tim Horton’s on Route 219. You’ll be able to try out a full selection of inflatable and hard stand-up paddle boards (SUPs) and kayaks. In addition, and thanks to its new partnership with Orvis, Adventure Bound will be offering Tenkara (a Japanese style of fresh-water fishing that uses ultra long, flexible, light-weight rods) clinics. Grab a bite and a brew from Dina’s food truck and EBC, and check out live music by Sister Molly and Brother John from 6-8 p.m. There will also be fun events for kids, including kids paddling on SUPs and kayaks, as well as a kids race. Enjoy the longest days of the year with a day (and night!) of fun in the sun! Don’t miss these two great events that showcase what Ellicottville is all about this time of year!

Village Board Hears Residents’ Requests Creates 12 Public Parking Spots

Several Village residents had the floor for the first hour of the Village Board meeting on Monday, June 13. First up was the Ellicottville Fire Department (EFD), which was represented by department
member (and Village Mayor) John Burrell. Burrell said the EFD would like the Village to adopt the same language for its law regarding residential fire/ burglar alarms that the Town of Ellicottville approved last year. The law would require residents
with alarms to register with the village. Its intent would be to help reduce false alarms by encouraging owners to keep their systems maintained, and it would provide an enforcement mechanism. The board agreed that the town law’s language would work. Village attorney Bob Simon will draft the amended language for the board’s review; a public hearing was scheduled for the next meeting. Burrell also reported on behalf of the Chamber of

Following a public hearing at its Wednesday, June 15 meeting, the Town of Ellicottville’s board passed a local law permitting the board to override the tax levy limit for fiscal year 2017. The board does not intend to take this action, but the step was taken in case of emergency. The Town and Village,
which already share many infrastructure and community services, are prepared to partner on several other activities in the near future. Town Supervisor Matt McAndrew and Village Mayor John Burrell met after Monday’s Village Board meeting and McAndrew brought several items to the attention of the board.
