June 3-5 Cycling Weekend Holiday Valley June 3-5 Dairy/Ag Fest Springville

Two major outdoor events are on tap for this first weekend of June in Ellicottville. One is Holiday Valley Cycling Weekend – a three-day guided ride for experienced cyclists. The other is the brand new “Ellicottville Outdoor Expo,” brought to you by the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce. Cycling Weekend, which runs Friday through Sunday, starts with a 20-mile ride on Friday followed by an evening gathering. Saturday starts with an educational clinic and a 40- to 50-mile morning ride with lunch back at Holiday Valley. Cocktails and dinner will be served on the Overlook Terrace. Sunday’s 80-mile ride is the longest, most challenging and most scenic as it winds through the heart of Amish country. Snacks, a sag wagon and a box lunch are included. Interested in riding? There’s still space available! Visit www.holidayvalley.com. Cyclists, their families, other weekend visitors and locals alike will love the opportunity to celebrate all things outdoors on Saturday and Sunday all over town during the two-day Expo. This new event features everything from outdoor yoga, horseback riding and fly fishing clinics to stand-up paddleboard demonstrations, mountain bike clinics, birds of prey shows and so much more. mud-minded racers for this fifth annual obstacle run on the slopes of Holiday Valley. Eleven super-fun, not-scary, sure-to-get-you-dirty obstacles await. Crawl over “lily pads” in Spruce Lake, find your way through the over/under logs, splash around in mud puddles and slog as fast as you can through the rest of the mucky course. Runners can choose

from the 3.5 mile or 5.4 mile races, both ending with the famous mudslide down the base of Yodeler. According to Jane Eshbaugh, Holiday Valley’s marketing director, Mudslide veterans will see some new elements this year. “We’re going to put the Outpost building near the Training Center and fill it with foam,” she said. “We’re adding a hand-over-hand ladder over a mud pit and a few other … surprises … are in the works.” The event will start with waves of 100 people per wave, at 10 a.m. from Spruce Lake, beginning with the long course runners. Springville Dairy Fest Get Moooooving to Springville for Dairy Fest June 3-5 By Alicia Dziak

The 28th annual WNY Dairy/Ag Fest is here and better than ever! Join hundreds of festival-goers for a weekend of good, old-fashioned, familyfriendly fun in the village of Springville, June 3-5. This year’s festival boasts a theme of “Old Farm Path.” With old favorites such as the parade, the petting zoo and live music, combined with new components like a Civil War Encampment and a bigger selection of rides, the Dairy Fest is a great way to spend the first weekend in June. Not sure where to start? How about with Friday’s festivities? Springville Griffith Institute (SGI) high school students are invited to take part in the annual “Drive Your Tractor to

High School” Day. If you drive by the school during the day, you’ll get a glimpse of them lined up on the lawn. Special events for the Children’s League happen on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. And then, from 5 to 11 p.m., enjoy amusement rides and food vendors on the lawn behind the high school. Also, be sure to head to the music tent for live entertainment starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, June 4, the Dairy Fest starts at 9 a.m. when

the school grounds re-open for the day. All day until 6 p.m., be sure to check out the Farm Tent, featuring kids’ farm activities, name the calf and goat contests, a most creative farm decorations competition, Mike Randall and his Puppet Friends at noon and 2 p.m., and numerous farm and local organizations’ booths. Don’t miss the huge 90-minute parade starting at 10 a.m. (Parade route goes from the Middle School, down See story page 4
