For many, kicking back and chilling out with some live entertainment is one of summer’s quintessential activities. If you’re someone who lives for this kind of activity in the summer months, you’re in luck. Ellicottville and numerous places within an hour’s drive not only offer live, outdoor music by some of the most talented local musicians around, but offer it FREE. The only question is where do you begin? You could certainly start with The Ellicottville Gazebo Series, sponsored by Five Star Bank and brought to you by the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce. Take your lawn chair and a picnic to the Village Gazebo Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. for a variety of great performances. Upcoming shows include Gary London (kids show) on July 16, Mirage with Vanessa Elder (Nuevo flamenco and pop fusion) on July 23, Tango Sin (Latin, tango) on July 30 and The Buffalo 5 on Aug. 6. In addition, the Town Hall/ Village Gazebo lawn is the place to be for the Americana Music & Folk Art Fair, July 18-19. The weekend will feature amazingly talented local artists and musicians, including a performance by Red Gray from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Can’t get enough of Allegany State Park (ASP) in the summer? Head to Rock the Park, happening Friday, July 10 on the shores of Red House Lake. Go to the beach area from 3 to 9:30 p.m. to check out the vendor area, grab some dinner at the snack bar and see live

Jazz and Blues Make the School Board Reorganizes Appoints Officers, Hires Business Teacher Weekend, July 24-26 By Jann Wiswall

In the height of summer, Ellicottville is the place to be, and for music fans everywhere, the annual Jazz & Blues weekend is a can’t-miss stop on the summer bucket list. Whether you like your blues funky, dirty, groovy, or anything in between, this weekend has something for everyone. Jazz & Blues weekend is all about bringing people together with the common thread of
music. Take your pick—or pick them all— and take in this fun-filled summer weekend in Ellicottville. Jazz & Blues weekend features an array of performers in EVL’s hot spots and on Sunday on Monroe Street, where an outdoor stage will be set up. This year, the weekend gets going on Friday, July 24 with Hoagy and the Blues Bombers at Madigan’s at 5 p.m. Tommy Z, featuring Memphis vocalist and harmonica player Brandon Santini, will perform at Balloons at 7 p.m. Then, head to the Gin Mill for local rockin’ favorites, 2 Guys Drinkin’ Beer, at 9 p.m. The fun continues on Saturday with performances by Miller and the Other Sinners at the Armor Inn at 3 p.m., the Mick Hayes Band at Madigan’s at 5 p.m., B.D. Lenz at Balloon’s at 6 p.m., and the Heavenly Chillbillies at the Gin Mill at 9 p.m.
The Ellicottville School Board unanimously reelected Carl Calarco to serve as board president and Connie Hellwig as board vice president during its annual reorganizational meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Calarco and Hellwig served in the same roles during the 2014-15 school year.

ECS Alumni Banquet July 17 Brunch and School Tour Also Scheduled The Ellicottville Central School Alumni Association is holding its annual banquet on Friday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Holiday Valley’s Tannenbaum Lodge. Tickets are $30 per person and include a social hour and delicious dinner. Alumni also are invited to join their friends on Saturday morning for a light brunch at
9 a.m. at the United Church of Ellicottville and to take a tour of the school at 11 a.m. As you probably know, the school is under construction while a new multi-purpose gymnasium and other major improvements are being made. Beginning with the class of 1965, every five-year class (1970, 1975, 1980….) is being
honored this year. In addition, the 2015 recipients of the alumni association’s $1000 scholarships – Alex Delity and Nathan Dunkleman – will be recognized. And yes, all newly graduated class of 2015 students are invited to attend their very first alumni banquet! See ECS Alumni Banquet page 6
