M&T Bank will be moving from its current location at 3 Washington Street to 49 Washington -- the site of the old Kwik Fill, which is across
Mill from the new Kwik Fill. The project is in initial planning stages with the Village Planning Board. A special use permit is required and the site plan and architectural reviews
are in early stages. During the Village Planning Board on Tuesday, Aug. 9, the board and M&T’s architects were focused on traffic flow through the property and around a drive-up ATM kiosk, as well as parking. The board agreed that one of the four solutions presented would provide safe and adequate access, turning radius and parking spaces. Village Planner Gary Palumbo advised the board that plans are complete enough to set a public hearing on the special use permit. That See Village Planning page 13

Ellicottville business owner John Rounds asked the Village Board at its Monday, Aug. 8 meeting to consider making Hughey Alley a two-way street again. Village of Ellicottville Mayor John Burrell explained that changing the direction of the alley would require
repealing the 2014 law that made it one way. Board members who were involved in enacting the 2014 law explained that its purpose was to make the intersection of the Alley at Monroe Street safer for pedestrians. They explained that trucks and cars traveling through the alley to See Village Board page 15

The Band also played a show at the park in the mid-1990s. And “The Canadian Invasion” in 1994 featured an impressive collection of Canadian bands, including Lowest of the Low, 54-40 and Blue Rodeo. Take a break from the kitchen and head to the Taste of Ellicottville, returning to the village Aug. 13 and 14. This weekend is all about treating your taste buds to the best Ellicottville has to offer. “Taste of Ellicottville is a constantly evolving event,” noted Chris Chapman, marketing and communications manager for the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce, whichh presents the event. “We are fortunate to have new restaurants in the area joining the Taste every couple years. This year, we are excited to have three restaurants participating for the first time.” Those welcome new additions are Monroe Street Brick & Brew, Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino and Villaggio. How it works: restaurants set up “cafe style” on the streets. You purchase tickets for $1 each at a centrally-located tent, then take your tickets and exchange them for a variety of tasty fare. Items are between one and four tickets. It’s that easy! If you’re wondering what kinds of items there are, it’s just about anything you might be craving. Interested in starters? You bet! Blue mushroom soup, wings, fresh-made potato chips, tacos-in-a-bag, loaded tots and more are all up for grabs. Looking for something that sticks to your ribs? Of course! Sliders, meatballs, pizza of all kinds and seafood are available, just to name a few. Want to try something on the lighter side? Enjoy all

ECS Expects Enrollment Increase
By Jann Wiswall
Ellicottville Central School could see an enrollment increase of 40-50 students if this month’s trend continues, Superintendent Mark Ward told the board of education at its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 9. “We can’t be precise at this stage,” he explained, “but there’s growth both from within
and outside the District.” At this point, he said, “we’re expecting 69 students in the 8th grade and 65 in 5th. Those are large classes for ECS.” Ward reported that preparations for the new school year are coming along well. The new busses are in, building repairs, improvements and maintenance are ongoing and
all of the new classroom smart boards have been installed. And, once state grant money comes in, he said, the school’s new security system can be purchased and installed. Ward also reported that preliminary results from the spring’s grades 3-8 testing in See ECS Board page 4
