This weekend, visitors to Ellicottville can look forward to the first annual Enchanted Mountain Music Festival, to be held Friday through Sunday, April 11–13, at Holiday Valley. Nightly concerts, daily singing and instrument workshops, jamming, along with the good vibes of Holiday Valley and Ellicottville, make this a relaxing, must-attend event. Performers, amateur and professional players, and acoustic music lovers will come together in a beautiful, intimate setting to enjoy some of the finest bluegrass and Americana music in the United States today. Bands include Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line, Creek Bend, and Paris Texas with Dee Specker, who will blow you away with their original music, harmony singing and instrumental talents. The weekend kicks off this afternoon, April 11, at 4 p.m. with unplugged workshops and continues through Sunday morning with more workshops, concerts and jamming sessions. All concerts and workshops take place at the gorgeous Holiday Valley Lodge and the Tamarack Club. An all-weekend ticket (Friday through Sunday), including concerts and workshops, is only $75 ($50 for students). Tickets for individual concerts on Friday or Saturday are $25. An allday Saturday pass is $50 and includes morning workshops, afternoon and evening concerts. Tickets to the Sunday concert are $15. Kids age 12 and under attend the festival free! Over the next two months, visitors and residents of Ellicottville will begin to notice a plethora of purple ribbons adorning the trees along the village streets and shop windows decorated with purple gifts, clothing and signage. All that purple is telling you that the community is gearing up for the annual Relay for Life fundraiser that

will take place on June 7 on the track at Ellicottville Central School. Over the past dozen or more years, the Ellicottville event has drawn hundreds of cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends and supporters together to celebrate those who are living with cancer, honor those who lost their lives to the disease and raise awareness about the

With 2014 being an Olympic year, success on the slopes has been on the forefront. With two topnotch ski resorts, dedicated coaches and so much young talent, it’s easy to see why amazing skiers come out of Ellicottville.

One of those skiers is 15-year-old Maggie Ryan, a sophomore at Pittsford Sutherland High School, near Rochester, who has been skiing at HoliMont for years. “HoliMont is where I learned to ski and I was taught by both my mom and my dad,” Maggie said. “I ski at HoliMont every weekend in the winter besides the weekends I am traveling for competitions.” Five years ago, Maggie joined HoliMont’s FLITE team, where she discovered her niche in moguls. “Maggie’s skiing has developed in so many ways through FLITE Team,” said Maggie’s mother, Tina Ryan. “Being lifelong members at HoliMont, our kids learned to ski there. Maggie started in HoliSports at age five and went through every level of the program.
