It’s time to celebrate! The long-awaited opening day at Holiday Valley has arrived, and if the weather cooperates, that means almost five months of skiing and snowboarding this season. With the excitement of opening day, comes the all-new Ellicottville Times’ magazine-style 2015 directory to help everyone get the most out of their time in Ellicottville this winter and all year round. The directory, available starting next week, not only encompasses Ellicottville, but also businesses in its many charming surrounding towns. Looking to get out and enjoy winter instead of hibernating? The directory is full of ways to beat the winter blues! From downhill skiing and snowboarding at Holiday Valley and HoliMont, to cross country skiing and snowshoeing at Franklinville’s all-new glamping resort, The Woods at Bear Creek, or along miles of trails that span Allegany State Park and McCarty State Forest, the region is a winter wonderland just waiting to be explored. To complement these activities, a full lineup of winter events makes the cold even better. As the snow falls and the resorts open to eager skiers, it’s not hard to find yourself in the holiday spirit. Check out Christmas in Ellicottville Nov. 28-30, highlighted by the annual tree lighting ceremony and a visit from Santa. On Dec.

Stranded Truck Drivers/ Highway Dept. Coverage Top Priority for Travelers Experience the Town Board Kindness of Ellicottville By Jann Wiswall

By Jann Wiswall

In the spirit of “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” Ellicottville residents pulled out all the stops to make dozens of truck drivers and travelers comfortable and welcome while they are visiting. Well, “visiting” may not be the right term, since they’re all stuck in the village due to the closure of Rt. 219 toward Buffalo because of the history-making lake effect snow storm. But in Ellicottville, where the community is attuned to hosting folks, these are, indeed, visitors. Efforts to make arrangements for these unwitting guests began in the Village Clerk’s

November 29 marks the fifth annual Small Business Saturday®, a day to celebrate local businesses by choosing to do your holiday shopping at independently-owned shops instead of at malls and big box stores. The Small Business Saturday campaign was created in 2010 by American Express to encourage shoppers to spend their holiday dollars at small businesses on the day after the infamous “Black Friday” shopping day. The perks of shopping local are many. Small business owners and employees tend to be more knowledgeable about their inventory and are often more accessible and more customerfocused. Mansfield Prepares for Westmont Easement Exchange

By Jann Wiswall

The lawyers for HoliMont, the towns of Mansfield and Ellicottville and the Village of Ellicottville are preparing the final paperwork necessary to exchange easements in order to provide and maintain water and sewer service for

the new WestMont Ridge development at HoliMont. WestMont Ridge lies in the town of Mansfield, which does not have a municipal water or sewer system. Mansfield’s engineer, Mark Alianello, explained

the process to the board at its Monday, Nov. 17, meeting. HoliMont’s general manager, Dave Riley, was also on hand to answer questions. In order to tie WestMont into a public system, Mansfield and both Ellicottville See Mansfield Board page 7
