The Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster opens for the season on Friday, May 20 at 11 a.m. The Mountain Coaster, located by Tannenbaum Lodge, is similar to a roller coaster but it’s built on a mountain. One or two riders sit in a “car” attached to rails that pull you up the hill, then it follows a zig-zagging, spiraling path down the mountain. Riders can control their speed with brakes on their car. To enjoy the coaster, participants must be a minimum of three years old and 38 inches tall to ride with an accompanying driver at least 16 years old, and must be eight years old and 54 inches tall to drive. The Mountain Coaster is open Fridays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through June 12. From June 17 to Sept. 5, it’s open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Prices are as follows: $8 single ride, $14 for two rides, $35 for five rides, $42 ride all day, or a family 10-pack for $65. Of course, you can add even more fun to your coaster experience. The coaster is part of Holiday Valley’s Sky High, which also includes the Climbing Forest and Aerial Park. The Climbing Forest is like a 3D version of a rock wall. Climbers are harnessed in and sent to climb their choice of 10 trees outfitted with color-coded climbing holds, with difficulty

Sidewalk Cafe Permit/Regulations Adopted by Village Board By Jennie Acklin

At a special meeting of the Village of Ellicottville’s board Wednesday evening, May 18, sidewalk cafes and the annual reorganizational appointments were on the agenda. During the May 9, 2016 Village board meeting, Jim Carls of Dina’s Restaurant and Judy Roush of Tips Up Cafe

proposed that they and other village restaurants be permitted to serve alcoholic beverages with meals at their outdoor tables during late spring and summer. Existing Local Law #2 from 2006 allows such service. Per state law, the service area must be cordoned off and five feet of sidewalk must be left

available for pedestrians and wheelchairs. At the May 18 meeting, a draft document – “Village of Ellicottville – Sidewalk Cafes – Permit/Regulations” – was presented to the board. Two hours of point-by-point review took place, and several revisions were made. Village See Village Board page 8
