t the Elliott School of International Affairs’ U.S. Foreign Policy Summer program, participants from the United States and around the world study the complex factors that shape U.S. foreign policy. Taking full advantage of its location at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs in downtown Washington, DC, the program features briefings at key institutions that influence U.S. foreign policy, as well as lectures and seminars by leading scholars and experts from government offices, think tanks, international organizations, nonprofit organizations, the media, and foreign embassies.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM The summer program, now in its 13th year, features lectures by Program Director Dr. Nancy J. Walker and the faculty of the George Washington University, as well as by guest speakers from a wide variety of organizations. This summer offers the particularly exciting opportunity for participants to analyze policies and issues that are the core of the U.S. presidential campaigns.

Participants will have access to the libraries at the George Washington University, the National Security Archive, the Library of Congress, and other research libraries in Washington, DC. In addition to attending lectures, all participants work on group projects and write a policy memorandum on a U.S. foreign policy issue of their choice. After the two-week program is completed, participants write a substantive research paper on U.S. foreign policy. Upon successful completion of the program, participants earn academic credit from the George Washington University.

Each day is slightly different, but usually includes guest speakers interspersed with lectures by the program director and visits to institutions around downtown Washington, DC.
