Dana James’ paintings immediately reveal her exquisite sense of painterly technique, incorporating multiple mediums and textures. Passionate about the process of art, she uses the technique of pouring and mark making, in a multitude of medium - oil, pastel, acrylic and encaustic. Delicate color palette, yet strong application of paint, translate poetically into sound waves, water and light - all essences that reverberate strongly in Dana’s abstract paintings. Her illusions of reality, with her personal psychological theme of letting go, diving in, surrendering and embracing life, are delicately rendered in her work. They pertain to a drifting history that merges with the otherworldly, where we float in between catharsis and danger, between peace and abandonment, and between fear and diving in. James is a native New Yorker and lives and works in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Her work has been exhibited extensively after graduating from the School of Visual Arts in 2008, and can be found in multiple private and public collections. Her latest solo show, “Sometimes Seen Dreams” at the Lodge Gallery was featured in the Art Critical Review Panel, and her recent two person show “The Thread,” at M. David & Co. Gallery, was chosen as ‘must see exhibitions’ by New York Magazine. She has also been featured in publications such as Two Coats of Paint, ArtSpace and Hyperallergic.
