BRANCH LIBRARY I developed my concept for the library based on simple square and rectangular shapes. It consists of a major, center volume - a glass box, with tube-like reading rooms attached to it. I wanted to create open and casual reading spaces but still somewhat private, therefore reading rooms are fully closed on two sides and open on the other two in order to provide framed views. The atrium and curtain walls also bring light in from all directions.

BRANCH LIBRARY As for the interior, I used different flooring materials to create invisible boundaries between spaces. Concrete floor for the center glass box/book storage area, and wood flooring for extended reading spaces. Reading rooms are also compartmentalized. There are individual reading areas, group meeting rooms, and social lounges. Therefore people can pick where they want to go based on their needs.

INSTALLATION The goal of this semester-long project is to change people’s impression about manufacturing in the U.S. Manufacturing has always been a big part of the economy, however its impact and benefits to the society are usually understated. One of the solutions we came up was to strategically place temporary installations in large scale cities - by targeting the urban population we are hoping to spread out the words and make people understand the importance of manufacturing, therefore support and participate in the movement.

KE A LIFE. KE A CHANGE. KE A COMMUNITY.
02 URBAN
INSTALLATION
We want to raise public awareness by sharing stories of local manufacturers who have contributed their work to improve local economy and community. We chose New York City to be one of our urban settings because it is not only one of the largest tourist cities in America , but also a big hub for urban manufacturing in the U.S. By putting a story-telling glass box in a high traffic area such as the Times Square, more and more people will gain knowledge about the “Made In NYC movement and local manufacturers.

CONSTRUCTION Throughout a one-month process, seven sections cooperated with each other, coming up with their own designs based on topography, view of the site, circulation, and neighbor conditions. Every section had the exact same amount of MDF boards and wood pieces to build with. Real life construction allowed people to travel through the space.

PLANE BLOCK The very first project we did for studio. Using lines and planes to create a spatial composition. I focused on the idea of intersecting and centralized for my design, working from the inside out. Final products are both 12 by 12 inches cubes.
06 MIXED MEDIA 7 8 9 10
Taking negative space from a series of photographs, manipulating the relationship between figure and ground, then using watercolor to reflect the color scheme of the original photo series (pictures in the backgrounds). All techniques are combined in Photoshop then printed.
