WELCOME

to Elmhurst University!

As a transfer student, your goals and expectations are different from those you had as a freshman. You’re more experienced now, ready to move toward the finish line of your college experience. At Elmhurst, you’ll find a new world of opportunity: programs that suit your specific needs, people with your best interests at heart, and a college with a growing reputation for excellence. For instance, U.S. News & World Report ranks Elmhurst in the top regional universities in the Midwest—and among the best values in the region, too. The Princeton Review also lists Elmhurst among the best in the Midwest, citing our “great financial aid” and “endless opportunities.” Forbes magazine’s rankings, which measure alumni success, put us among the top 15 in Illinois. On our campus, you’ll become part of an open, welcoming community that includes students from every ethnic, racial, and religious background and from many states and countries. You won’t feel like a newcomer for long. And you’ll get to know plenty of transfer students with experiences a lot like yours. One in three of our students come to us from another college or university. We understand your particular concerns and needs, and we’re deeply committed to your success. Our admission counselors are determined to get to know you as an individual, and to make the transfer process smooth sailing. We encourage you to schedule an appointment with a counselor to ask questions, evaluate your transcripts, and develop a clear road map toward your Elmhurst degree. We look forward to seeing you soon!

JORDAN MACRI Major/Minor Psychology/Chemistry Transferred From Harper College Elmhurst Experience I chose Elmhurst because the classes are small, and the professors are great about making time to meet with students. Also, I had a wonderful advisor who did everything in her power to find the information that I needed to make a successful transfer. The advising staff and the professors here genuinely enjoy working with students and work hard to help students be successful.

JOE AMADEO

Clubs/Organizations The Leader, Game Developers Club, WRSE Transferred From DePaul University Elmhurst Experience Elmhurst makes it easy to let go and try new things. I never worked for a newspaper before, but I ended up writing articles and editing videos for Elmhurst’s newspaper, The Leader. Being able to use my skills to make an impact on campus is pretty cool. And I appreciate the opportunity to challenge myself to try something new and see my name in print.

Major Psychology Clubs/Organizations Kappa Kappa Gamma, Pi Gamma Mu Transferred From Chamberlain College of Nursing Elmhurst Experience I fell in love with Elmhurst the minute I stepped on campus. Even though I didn’t know anybody here, I felt welcomed and everyone I saw gave me a smile. There’s a real sense of community here, and that extends to the professors too. They pay attention to each student and put all of their efforts into teaching. Since transferring to Elmhurst my grades have gone up every semester, and that shows me that I finally found a school that I can call home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is Elmhurst a “transfer-friendly” university? Absolutely! About half of our students come to us with experience at another college or university, and more than 500 transfer students join the Elmhurst community each year. We even offer a special orientation just for transfers. Can I visit the campus and sit in on a class? Yes, we welcome your visit to campus, whether you want to join us for a special transfer student event or arrange your own visit day. Please visit us online at elmhurst.edu/visit for details. Can I get an unofficial transfer credit evaluation without applying? Yes! Send transcripts as an attachment to transcripts4ec@elmhurst.edu. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, major and school you are currently attending in your email. Do any majors have GPA requirements for admission? Yes. Here’s a rundown: • Nursing majors must have a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA, with a 2.8 GPA in science courses.

• Education majors need at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Some programs require a 3.0 GPA. • Majors in communication sciences and disorders (speech-language pathology) need a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA. How will I know if my courses will transfer? Along with your admission packet, you will receive a Transfer Credit Evaluation showing all Integrated Curriculum courses fulfilled, the total number of transferable credits, and any courses that did not transfer. Within a few weeks after admission, you’ll receive a major evaluation detailing all courses approved by the department for fulfillment of major requirements. How do I learn about specific department requirements? Please visit elmhurst.edu/academics and click on Departments and Programs. When do I register for classes? If you’re starting at Elmhurst in the Fall Term, you’ll meet with an advisor and register during the summer. If you’re starting in Spring Term, you’ll meet with an advisor and register in

January. Watch the mail for more information on advising dates once you’ve received your acceptance letter. Keep your eye out for some early bird registration dates. Does my grade-point average at Elmhurst include prior coursework? You will have two grade-point averages: one for Elmhurst only, and one that reflects all of your college-level work. The combined GPA is used to determine your eligibility for graduation honors. Do I need an associate’s degree before I can transfer to Elmhurst? No, you don’t need an associate’s degree, and you don’t need to have a certain number of credits completed. If you transfer to Elmhurst with fewer than 30 hours, however, we’ll look at your high school records in addition to your college-level work in making an admission decision.
