IBDP Overview and Expectations ●

The Diploma Programme is designed to help students develop international mindedness and critical thinking while preparing them for the rigour of post-secondary education.

Students may complete the full diploma or certificates based on their goals and priorities. ○ Full Diploma: Six IB courses as well as the three Core Components ○ Certificates: Students may complete a certificate in any IB course at either the HL or SL level.

○ ●

This year, we are offering IB Psychology SL/ HL (HSB3U - Intro. To Anthro/Psych/Soc) HSP4U (Challenge & Change) will be offered the following year.

Core Components - More Information There are three Core Components of the full diploma, which are requirements all students must satisfy in order to complete the programme: 1. 2. 3.

Theory of Knowledge: A Grade 11 course designed to promote depth of thinking and the forging of divergent connections. Extended Essay: A 4000 word paper, written over the course of a year, that develops a deeper understanding of a topic of choice. CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) Experiences

IB Certificates ●

While the benefits of the full diploma are exceptional, some students may choose an alternative path to success through the IBDP.

Reasons for pursuing individual certificates as opposed to the full diploma: ○ A well-defined plan for university that requires focused attention and consideration. ○ A rigourous extra-curricular schedule as experienced by high performance athletes, musicians or artists.

● As of 2021, Elmwood will no longer be charging a fee should your daughter wish to pursue the IBDP ●
