After almost four years’ experience at HASSELL architects as an Architecture Student I am now looking for something more permanent as I prepare to graduate. My responsibilities at HASSELL delved into both the Architecture and Interior Design disciplines, equipping me with a broad range of skills and project experience. Projects ranged from commercial workplace to healthcare, education and residential. My skill set includes strong graphic skills used to prepare submissions, briefing reports and concept designs, undertaking project benchmarking and formulating space budgets, liaising with suppliers and coordinating finishes and furniture. I am proficient in undertaking building and floor plate analysis in terms of environment and space use efficiency. I have a strong work ethic, defined by confident and considered decision making, ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure as well as a willingness to learn and be challenged. I am proficient in a number of applications including the adobe design suite, autocad, sketchup, revit and 3ds studio max. I have begun my architectural registration log book and am looking to undertake registration within the next 2 years.
O B JE C T I V E S 1. To work in an environment where I am challenged and where I can gain
valuable experience and build upon my education 2. To be part of a workplace that fosters design and innovation 3. To undertake architectural registration within the next 2 years

PROJECT 01
3RD YEAR TECHNOLOGY UNIT YARRA VALLEY WINERY
This third year unit focused on the structural side of design. We were given a site in the Yarra Valley on which we had to design a tank room for a Winery. We had to take into consideration the wine making process and what kind of facilities and adjacencies this would require. The aim was to create a building formed of a simple structure and detail the systems involved. To this end we performed a number of analyses on the structure including wind and weight loads to ensure that it was structurally sound We gained an awareness of the relationship between structural and non-structural components. Drawings ranged from suspended walkways, to cladding systems and gutter details.

PROJECT 02
4TH YEAR DESIGN STUDY WESTERN AUSTRALIAN ECOLOGY CENTRE
+ 13
Our brief was to create a Western Australian Ecology Centre in Bold Park Reserve. There were a number of challenges including the protection of the reserve which required a building that had minimal effect on the surrounding context My scheme was holistic in approach, based on the idea of the circle. I took the Deer Valley Rock Art Centre as a precedent which created a building that used materiality and form to blend into its surround. I achieved this by creating a low, slender building which took advantage of the sloping site and sunk into the ground. One of the key features of this scheme was the circular shape and the external walls. By offsetting the circle I created thicker exterior walls which acted as thermal buffers and removed the need for large roof overhangs for shading. This also created interesting ‘pocket’ spaces which could be used as spaces of contemplation or research or relaxation. “All drawings have been scaled to a4 format

PROJECT 03
5TH YEAR DESIGN STUDIO PROJECT: SUBIACO MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT
This unit was focused on developing an existing car park within the residential suburb of Subiaco. The suburb has been earmarked for increased density and development as part of Perth’s latest planning scheme. The area is characterized by a low rise character and small scale urban fabric. The challenge with this studio was creating a scheme that achieved increased density while being responsive to its specific context and considering local planning restrictions. My final scheme was based on in-depth contextual analysis. The driver behind the scheme was diversity; diversity of housing, of form and of scale. This was a response to the rhythm and scale of the Subiaco streetscape, which incorporates a large level of diversity both in terms of size and architectural style. The scheme included active uses along the ground level such as retail and hospitality. Office took up levels two and three with housing from levels four to seven. Two typologies of housing were explored: high density housing with communal facilities and apartment style housing similar to what already exists in Subiaco. “All drawings have been scaled to a4 format

“High Rise Resistance: Overcoming High Rise resistance through the development of performance based guidelines.”
PROJECT 04
HONORS DISSERTATION
In 2012 I completed my Honors Dissertation: “High Rise Resistance: Overcoming High Rise resistance through the development of performance based guidelines.” My dissertation was awarded the HASSELL Dissertation Prize in 2013 and featured in ‘The Post’, a local Perth publication.
“
A B ST R ACT
Perth’s burgeoning urban footprint and growing population are the main focus of Directions 2031. Directions 2031 is the latest Metropolitan Planning Strategy for Perth and was adopted by the State Government in 2011. The policy aims to create a more connected city through the implementation of three key principles: growth management, intensification of existing activity centers and improvement of public transport. The planning scenario consists of both infill and green field development of which infill will constitute 47%. High rise is a logical component of infill development and a key factor in managing Perth’s outward growth. High rise brings density and amenity; it strengthens local business and mass transit, all key issues raised in Directions 2031. However, resistance to high rise has had a major influence on the progression of such developments. Negative attitudes toward high rise are driven by a number of issues. Whether it is negative associations linked to poorly designed high rise of the past or a NIMBY mentality, high rise for many local residents is synonymous with the destruction of culture and character. Resistance to high rise is intensifying, with local communities becoming increasingly organized in opposing developments. Council members and residents may not have the final say in approving high rise developments but they do have the ability to delay such developments, in some cases to the extent where they are no longer viable. If Directions 2031 is to be successfully implemented then provisions need to be made for the integration of high rise into activity centres. The aim of this research is to increase the understanding of high rise resistance and explore methods of overcoming it. The final outcome will be a set of performance based guidelines specifically concentrated on the relationship between high rise developments and activity centres. The intention is to bridge the gap between State and Development industries and local councils and residents by providing easily accessible and understandable information.

Curtin Bentley Campus Map
PROJECT 01 CURTIN UNIVERSITY KENT ST, BENTLEY
The Curtin University project involved the refurbishment of 11 different rooms within their existing campus in Bentley. I was involved in the project from shematic design through to design development. This involved the development of SCHEMATIC DESIGN a conceptual strategy, selection of finishes and DESIGN DEVELOPMENT furniture, and documenting the final design in autoCAD. Schematic design began by exploring key principles that were important to the client. We then needed to translate this into a legible concept throughout the campus. The concept was about creating a network through the campus. This network was intended to foster connection and a sense of being, manifesting itself physically within the materiality of the flooring, walls and ceilings. The idea was that each room would be connected and represent part of a larger whole.

Insertion of new into existing building fabric, aligning with strong north south axis of campus d. Defining a new network of collaborative learning across the campus, subtly represented in each new space 3. Create a look and feel palette 4. Create a materials palette and select furniture and finishes
The final design was full of colour and texture. The linear structure of the materiality creates structure within the space and the opportunity for smaller collaborative areas within these rooms. All materials chosen were designed to foster collaborate learning. For instance cork boar and echo panel were used on the walls, along with white boards to allow for pinups and increased communication and interaction.

PROJECT 03
This project is currently on going. I was involved AURECON WORKPLACE in the schematic design phase. Roles ranged from concept design to schematic plans involving test HAY ST, PERTH CBD fits and void / stair detailing to space budgets and benchmarking. In addition I helped produce SCHEMATIC DESIGN schematic 3d imagery, InDesign documents and concept imagery. The fit out is located within four levels of a new build along Hay St in Perth CBD. It will take up levels 2 through 5. Given its close proximity to street level there was a heavy focus on its relationship to the street and pedestrian interface. To this end we pursued a stair and void concept that was close to the facade and was expressed as one piece.

+ the design Due to its location on the 2nd floor and its proximity to the street, the void and stair became a strong object which would be used to relate to the street and pedestrian interface. As such significant development went into this strategy.
