Early Decision Choose Early Decision if you know Elon is right for you and want an early answer. This is a binding application commitment. Students may only apply to one school Early Decision, and if admitted, agree to withdraw applications from all other colleges and universities. Parents/guardians and students must sign the Early Decision Agreement on the application. A non-refundable $500 enrollment deposit is required by Jan. 10. It is not possible to defer admission under Early Decision.

Early Action This is a nonbinding decision for students who have high interest in Elon. Students admitted Early Action have until May 1 to pay the $500 enrollment deposit.

Regular Deadline This deadline is also nonbinding and admitted students have until May 1 to pay the $500 enrollment deposit.

Residency Requirement All first- and second-year students are required to live on campus except those who are living with their parent/ guardian(s), nontraditional students and transfer students 18 / ELON.edu

who have been out of high school one year or more. To reside in university housing, a student must be 17 years old. Students younger than 17 cannot live on campus, and if admitted, must be a commuter student residing with a parent or legal guardian until he or she meets the age requirement.

Official High School Transcripts All information must be submitted by your high school or secondary school.

Standardized Tests Elon requires ACT or SAT scores. Submit scores from all tests taken. Only the highest scores will be considered in the admission decision. Make sure you plan to take either the ACT or SAT in October or November of your senior year to meet application deadlines.

International Students All international students must submit an official school transcript, including grades and examination certificates. If your native language is not English, or you are attending a school where English is not the primary language of instruction, you must demonstrate English proficiency


through a standardized test or English Language program. A minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL or a 6.5 on the IELTS is required for admission. The Duolingo English Test (DET) will also be considered. Alternatively, students may demonstrate proficiency by completing ELS level 112 or ALA level 5. As an international student, you may apply for admission to Elon without submitting ACT or SAT scores. We will evaluate your application based on your academic performance, your essay or personal statement, Secondary School Report and letter of recommendation. An interview may also be required. If you’re a first-year student and you are interested in participating in an athletic program, you are required to submit ACT or SAT scores.

Admissions Policy Admission to Elon is competitive. Approximately 12,000 applications are received for 1,680 seats in the first-year class. The most important factors in the admission decision are the academic record, including courses taken and grades attained, followed by ACT or SAT scores and the essay. Other factors considered include leadership potential, extracurricular and service-related activities, special talents, and ability to contribute positively to the campus community. Applicants should pursue a rigorous program of study including the following distribution of courses: › English: 4 units required (3 units must be completed for admission consideration) › Math: 3 units required, 4 recommended (Algebra I & II and Geometry are required)

› Science: 3 or more units, including at least one lab science › Social Studies: 3 or more units, including U.S. History for U.S. residents › Foreign Language: 2 units required, 3 recommended

For decades our first financial aid policy has been to keep the cost reasonable, often as much as $10,000 below other private colleges and universities our applicants consider.

Scholarships based on talent

Presidential Scholarships Top student, top recognition: that’s the philosophy of the $6,000 Presidential Scholarship award. You have made academics a priority, and we want to recognize your commitment and hard work by investing in your potential to excel at Elon. Presidential Scholarships are awarded to the top 25 percent of the incoming first-year class and are based on your high school transcript and standardized test scores.

Elon Engagement Scholarships First-year applicants may be candidates for this $4,500 scholarship, which is renewable annually. In addition, each recipient is awarded a one-time $2,000 Elon Experiences grant for a total of $20,000 in scholarship and program support. Selection is based on your high school academic record, standardized test scores, application essay and extracurricular activities. This scholarship may not be combined with the Presidential Scholarship.

Fellows Programs & Scholarships Distinguish yourself as an Elon University Fellow. These premier academic and leadership programs are based on your academic interests and talent and require a separate application. Fellows Programs include Honors, Elon College (arts and sciences), Communications, Business, Teaching and Isabella Cannon Leadership. Learn more about the Fellows Programs at elon.edu/fellows. Fellows receive scholarships ranging from $5,500 to $13,500 per year in addition to a $1,000 Global Study grant to be used for an approved study abroad or Study USA program. North Carolina Teaching Fellows For high school seniors from North Carolina, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program (NCTF) is a competitive, merit-based forgivable loan for service program that provides up to $8,250 a year for up to four years ($33,000) to highlyqualified students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) 20 / ELON.edu

Athletics Elon is a Division I school and a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Scholarships are awarded in all sports by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in compliance with all official NCAA and university rules and regulations.

Performing Arts Elon’s Performing Arts department has a national reputation for conservatory-style training grounded in the arts and sciences. Scholarships are awarded by the individual departments based on the audition. Award amounts vary. Please note: your first-year application does not serve as your application for a performing arts audition or scholarship. elon.edu/auditions

ROTC The U.S. Army and Air Force offer three-and four-year scholarships based on merit, not financial need. In addition, Elon provides all ROTC scholarship recipients with a room and board scholarship during the time the ROTC scholarship pays tuition. Exceptional need and merit-based scholarship program opportunities The Odyssey Program

Additional need-based assistance

Academically talented students with significant demonstrated financial need are eligible for scholarships in the Odyssey Program. The four-year program empowers students through peer and administrative support. Approximately 35 awards are available through the program ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. All students also receive a one-time $4,000 Global Study grant toward an approved study abroad or Study USA program. The Odyssey Program application is required and must be submitted by Jan. 15. Do not wait to be admitted before submitting the Odyssey Program application. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and CSS Profile as soon after Oct. 1 as possible. For students who qualify for need-based assistance, Elon offers a range of federal, state and institutional grants, loans and scholarships.
