Fellows Programs are primarily school-based, so you should be planning to major in a field within the school sponsoring the Fellows Program. The exceptions are Honors Fellows and Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows, which are for students in any major. Students who are undecided about a major typically apply to Honors Fellows if they wish to pursue the thesis option or to Elon College Fellows due to the breadth of majors offered in the arts and sciences. Scholars Programs, with the exception of Engineering Scholars, are special interest programs rather than major-specific. The Fellows and Scholars Program application allows students to apply for a maximum of two Fellows and two Scholars Programs. Students will be considered for any of the programs in which they indicate interest. Students cannot be both a Fellow and a Scholar.
Students may apply for one school-based (Business, Elon College, Communications or Teaching Fellows) and one non-school-based (Honors or Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows) program. However, you may participate in only one Fellows Program. (You may participate in the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program and one of Elon’s non-school-based Fellows programs.) You may not apply to two school-based programs. Because the Honors and Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows Programs are not school-based, you may apply to both of these or to one of them in combination with a school-based program. Candidates selected to compete for Honors Fellows will be required to have a recommendation submitted on their behalf prior to the competition weekend. Further information regarding the format of the recommendation is provided on the application. In addition to two Fellows Programs, students may also apply to up to two Scholars Programs.
All Fellows and Scholars applications are reviewed after January 15. Fellows finalists are selected by faculty committees. If you are a finalist, you will be invited one month in advance to attend Fellows & Engineering Weekend, March -, . Fellows finalists who apply under the regular deadline will receive their first-year admissions status at the time of invitation to Fellows Weekend. The Fellows competition includes attending a seminar and writing a response, an interview with faculty and information sessions about the Fellows Programs. From this competition, Fellows are selected and notified by April 1. Scholars applications are also reviewed after January 15. Students elected for Change Makers, Elon Sports Vision, Health Professions or Legal Professions Scholars will be notified around February 5 and do not need to attend Fellows & Engineering Weekend.
