28th September We arrived to Leszno in the afternoon and after we met our host families we went for a walk around the town.
29th September We met the students from Friseland and the other Polish students and we did the presentations of the schools. The Polish students and teachers gave us the oppportunity to taste different kinds cakes to welcome us.
After that, we visited all the town with a tour guide.
In the afternoon we went bowling with all the group and we had lunch tasting Polish pizza. We had a really good time. In the free time, we went home to relax and then the students gave as a really wonderful surprise. They took us to a lake to enjoy the sunset.
30th September We went to the institude of technology in Poznan where we saw conducts scientific research and development works in natural sciences and technology in the following areas: protection, use and Environmental Management and nature conservation, agro-ecosystems, water resources, sustainable grasslands and landscape and rural infrastructure; innovative, complex technologies in crop production, livestock and food processing, technical infrastructure in rural areas and obtaining energy from renewable sources; the safety of the implemented technology and the usage of machinery and equipment.
In the afternoon we visited Poznan.
1st October We prepared a small exhibition about each country.
Then we visited the Secondary School in Leszno with IB and we had lunch there, eating Polish food.
In the afternoon we went to Jeziorki, which is a small village in the countryside. First, we rode horses and we saw different animals. Later, we had a barbeque and we had a really good time singing all together.
2nd October
On Thursday we went to Uniej贸w (the Polish Lowland) which is a town situated in the Central Poland. The integrated space heating plant was put into operation in 2001. Geothermal aquifer is situated within the Cretaceous sandstones at the depth of ca. 2000 m. The wellhead temperature is about 60oC and the TDS are 5 g/l. Water is exploited in one doublet system. The installed capacity of the plant is 5.6 MWt, including 3.2 MWt from geothermal and 2.4 MWt from peak oil boilers. In 2002 ca. 40% of heat consumers in the town were supplied by this plant, while the number of connected clients amounted ca. 60%. The total heat production was ca. 20 TJ, with ca. 15 TJ from geothermal water. In the coming years the works on connecting new consumers are planned. Because of valuable curative features, geothermal water are also used for recreation and balneotherapy.
In the afternoon we went to a spa to relax.
3rd October We saw some experiments about renewable energy sources that were made by Polish students. Then we went to a shop where they showed us how the solar pannels make the heating of the house. To finish we visited the classrooms in the schools.
To finish our experience, we had the opportunity to ride speedway motorbikes. We saw the Leszno stadium and we learnt about the typical Polish sport, as we hadn not heard about it before.
This was all about our visit to Poland. We had a fantastic time with our hostage families and we learnt more about their different renewable energy sources.
