Juan Huerta News Editor

T
his year’s presidential election is no different from others, both political parties stand by their candidates in hope for a win this Tuesday night, Nov. 3. As the presidential election gets closer, hate crime and violence amongst individuals from both parties surge across the country. On Friday, a bus promoting presidential candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris was attacked by a so-called “Trump Train.” The bus was traveling From San Antonio to Austin, TX. Where presidential candidate Joe Biden was hosting a campaign event in hopes of turning Texas blue this election. Witnesses describe the event as horrifying since lives were endangered, video shows trucks speeding across the highway with Trump flags while shouting derogatory terms. The trucks seen on the video attempted to run it off the road in hopes of harming the Biden/Harris campaign. The Biden campaign disclosed that neither candidate was on board
during the time of the attack. Shortly after the incident, President Trump tweeted the video captioning it, “I LOVE TEXAS” and the day after at his rally he mentioned that his supporters were protecting the bus. He mentions “my supporters are nice people.” This wouldn’t be the first time Trump condones violence. During the first presidential debate of this election he also said “Stand by and stand strong” after being asked about white supremacist groups and the acts of hate that have been seen across the country during his presidency. At a Trump Rally on Sunday, Sen. Marco Rubio praised the incident and said “We love what they did!” Biden’s campaign remained calm when asked about the incident. Biden told reporters in Texas on Sunday evening, “We’ve never had anything like this.” “At least we’ve never had a president who thinks it’s a good thing,” he said. Michelle Lee, FBI spokesperson spoke on the incident and told CNN “we’re aware of the incident and its under investigation”

Miami Defense Overwhelms Rams in a 28-17 Victory

hile rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa garnered all the headlines, it was the Miami defense that shined against the Rams. Here’s what we learned from the Rams’ 28-17 loss at Hard Rock Stadium: Coming off a dominating win against Chicago last Monday, the Rams fell flat in
Miami. After the offense punted on their first drive, the Rams defense forced a Dolphins fumble on Miami’s second play from scrimmage. L.A. scored a touchdown three plays later to take the early lead. It was downhill from there, as the Rams offense committed four turnovers, which the Dolphins scored 21 points off of. Miami’s Jakeem Grant also returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown, the longest in franchise history. One of the biggest clichés in
football is the importance of winning the turnover battle. The Rams learned that lesson the hard way. In a game where the Dolphins’ defense dominated, Tua didn’t have to do much. He didn’t light up the stat sheet like Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow or the Chargers’ Justin Herbert, but he did score his first NFL touchdown on a quick strike to Devante Parker. Tagovailoa finished the day completing 12 of his 22 passes for 93 yards and the afore-
mentioned TD. While we didn’t see much of him on the field (the Rams ran twice as many offensive plays as the Dolphins), the future looks bright in Miami. Just like Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino (who spent his entire career with the Dolphins), Tagovailoa earned his first home/career win against the Rams, according to the FOX broadcast team. If you were to look solely at the stat sheet, you would’ve thought it was the Rams who
blew out the Dolphins. Coming into the second half, L.A. had 224 total yards of offense compared to Miami’s 54 yards. Miami’s time of possession: 9:12; the Rams’ time of possession: 20:48. The Rams finished with 471 total yards of offense, while the Dolphins had 145. You can contribute that to the Miami defense constantly getting in Rams quarterback Jared Goff’s face. They were in his grill so much, you’d think he invited them to a barbecue. Goff threw a whopping 61 passes, completed 35, and threw two interceptions to go along with a touchdown. The ineptitude of the L.A. offense underscored a terrific showcase by their defense. They forced two fumbles, setting up the offense with prime field position on both occasions. It was after that second fumble when the offense hit a wall. Setting up shop at the Miami seven yard line, Goff was strip sacked by Miami defender Emmanuel Ogbah. Andrew Van Ginkel scooped up the loose ball and ran it back for a 78 yard touchdown, putting Miami up for good. The Rams’ defense shutout Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami offense in the second half, but the offense couldn’t capitalize. The loss to the Dolphins drops the Rams to 5-3. Their upcoming bye week will give them time to reset, as the Seattle Seahawks will welcome them home the following week. That game will take place November 15 at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff will start at 1:25 pm PST. See you then.
A.J Hinch, Signs to be New Tigers Manager During Astros Scandal Enrique Medina Sports Editor

T
he Detroit Tigers made news official Friday, signing ex-Astros manager A.J. Hinch to be the new manager of the Tigers. Hinch made headlines earlier this year with his involvement in the 2017 Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. Hinch was suspended earlier in the year, prior to the start of the 2020 MLB regular season because of his role during the scandal. Hinch of course was the manager during the 2017 Astros World Series title. The Astros were found to have stolen signs illegally through electronic use that season, during their first and only World Series title. The Astros were found to have used a video feed from center field to decode signs which they would relay to hitters by banging a trash can. The system was altered but was said to have been used throughout the entire 2017 Playoffs. That season the Astros
ultimately would beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series to win their first World Series title in franchise history. Upon the investigation, Hinch was said to have not been a part of the system, its usage, and creation, but Hinch was aware of what was going on and never did anything to stop it. Hinch did not like the idea as he has stated in the past, but ultimately did nothing as the team manager to stop it. Hinch would wind up seeing a one-year suspension from all baseball activities for 2020, because of his role in the scandal. Moments after the end of the World Series, Tigers General Manager Al Avila was already on the phone with Hinch, telling him to get on a plane to Detroit to make the news official. For Hinch, he will replace the recently retired Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire as the skipper at the helm. “I always knew that I wanted to get back into baseball,” Hinch said. Hinch was itching to get back into baseball in some type of way since his one-year

not made the playoffs since the 2014 season, but has young prospects and big-league talent
set to make an impact at the big-league level.
