The 2019 Women’s World Cup takes place in France as the United States Women’s National Team endures another summer of pressure to hopefully come back with its fourth World title. By Jamie Smed / Flickr
It's the morning of Saturday, June 22 and the United States Women's National Team is in France's Stade Auguste-Delaune. Every four years, its usual journey of securing yet another Women's World Cup title beckons as the knockout phase begins against Spain. After winning Group F with three victories and a plus 18 goal difference, Jill Ellis and her squad face Spain as clear favorites to go all the way and lift the cup July 2 in Lyon. In the squad's last tournament, a bitter result against Sweden in the first round of the knockout phases in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, the Nordic country stunned the world and eliminated the United States in penalty shootouts. "I think that despite the fact that it's been 3 years," USWNT forward Christen Press explained in a pre-match press conference before facing the Swedes for the
first time since its Olympic debacle where Press and her teammates would go on to win 2-0 convincingly. "You don't forget the taste in your mouth when you fail and lose in a word championship and I think that there is a little bit of that which will act as motivation. And you always play to win and to never have that
classified as just another possible winner. A 13-0 victory over Thailand in the US's first game of the group stage signalled just that. The American's were going to leave no prisoners and take nothing less than excellence each game without taking its foot off the gas. "I look at the way we played
“You don’t forget the taste in your mouth when you fail and lose in a word championship.” Press feeling again." Just when the world begins to believe the rest of the women's field is catching up to the USWNT in terms of quality, it's losses like those against Sweden in the first round of the Olympics in 2016 which have fueled the US women's national team whenever they are

tonight and I feel so inspired by this group of women." USWNT striker Alex Morgan said following her five-goal display against Thailand. "When you look at the scoreline it"s high, but when you"re playing in a World Cup every single goal may count, that' s what we were told before the

game and that's why we had to keep going." Morgan's post-game attitude is the mindset the squad lacked down the spine of the club during the 2016 Olympics. Coming off a World Cup championship in 2015, when a team is at the top of the food chain, it's easy to relax and be overly-confident. This time, in France, it's nothing but business for Ellis and the rest of the team. Leaving no page unturned. Against Spain, USWNT veteran forward Megan Rapinoe went on to net twice from the penalty spot as the US won 2-1 in the
team's most suspect performance during its four matches. From the 13-0 thrashing of Thailand to this shakey display against the Europeans, the team's mentality has shifted. Following the hard-fought victory over Spain, Rapinoe went on to mention how different the knockout stage is compared to the first three matches. "I think we showed just a lot of grit and experience, to be honest, in this game," Rapinoe said. "Obviously as we get into these knockout rounds it's more stressful, there's more pressure, the games
are more intense. Every team lifts its level." Rapinoe is right. Tactics change. Strategies change. The knockout matches are winnable for any team no matter the ranking and expectations, i.e., Sweden against the United States in the 2016 Summer Olympics. This summer, the USWNT are highly aware that they can lose at any moment and its helped them. They were forced to defend and also had to find a different way to get past Spanish goalkeeper Sandra Paños as the Spanish defense were able to make Rapinoe, Morgan and playmaker Tobin Heath seem fairly average. That's where the grinding comes in. Rapinoe's first penalty came after just seven minutes, signalling the start of another USWNT rout. Less than two minutes later, Spain's Jennifer Hermoso took advantage of a USWNT defensive mishap and curled a shot past goalkeeper Alyssa Nauher to equalize right away. That's the moment when the team flipped from brash to humble. They found a way to win. It required the referee to blow her whistle twice inside the box for penalties, but they managed to squeeze by when they had to. Following the victory, the second knockout phase for the US is perhaps the biggest matchup of the tournament because it involves the favorites to lift the cup. Host country France will have home-field advantage over the USWNT Friday, June 28 in Paris' Parc des Prince in a quarter-final encounter which can determine the tournament winner. "For us, this is the best game. This is what you want. You want
“This is what you want. You want the biggest teams. You want the most eyes on it, the most media. You want it all,” Rapinoe the biggest teams. You want the most eyes on it, the most media. You want it all," Rapinoe said about facing hosts France. They have a whole nation and a whole stadium behind them. For us, we want every game. We want every game against every big team and hopefully we get to the end and we have knocked them all off.
Winger Christen Press was a part of the 2015 Summer Olympics debacle which she says fueled the squad going into the World Cup.

Road To Victory Why Mexico Will Win

The Gold Cup
15
1
In CONCACAF, Mexico is seen as the "giant" in the region. They have the best league, the best teams, the most money, the best players, and along side the U.S, they have dominated the Gold Cup throughout history. In the last decade or so, teams like Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama and Honduras have made Mexico's road to glory even more difficult, but this year might not be the case. Here is why this edition of the Gold Cup might be the most comfortable for Mexico to win.
The U.S Generation Change
After the embarrassing failure that it was not qualifying to the 2018 World Cup, the United States began to work on a new generation of players. For the last year, year and a half, the U.S has been working on a process under manager Gregg Berhalter for Qatar 2022. The U.S is on an experimentation time, losing the Gold Cup wouldn't be a big failure for the United States, many of the players do not have much experience in the first team. But even though the U.S might not have players like Landon Donovan or Clint Dempsey anymore, they still have good players, players that any given day, can surprise you.

4 3 The Rest Are On The Low
In the last 20 years or so, teams like Honduras and Costa Rica had given Mexico a lot of trouble in the Gold Cup and in the World Cup qualifiers. Panama and Jamaica had grown exponentially in the last decade. Panama reached the 2013 Gold Cup final and last year, they qualified to their first World Cup. Jamaica reached two consecutive Gold Cup finals in 2015 and 2017 respectively. But things have changed, Honduras, is on its worst generation period in the last 2025 years, they failed to qualify to Russia 2018, and like the U.S, they are also in a transition period. Costa Rica made history in Brazil 2014 after reaching the quarterfinals of the World Cup, and they showed a level of soccer that surprised everyone. That side has long changed. Those teams that had grown impressively have failed to continue progressing.
2
Mexico Left Everyone Behind
While everyone has gotten stuck or gone backwards, Mexico has continued being constant. During the World Cup qualifiers, under a manager like Juan Carlos Osorio, Mexico did not play amazing soccer. They became a team that lived off results rather than playing good. Even with a very normal level of soccer, Mexico took advantage of his rivals’ irregularities and walked to the World Cup. Mexico remained undefeated until the last game vs Honduras where Mexico did not play its best 11. Now under Gerardo 'El Tata' Martino, Mexico has improved, even though many important first team players like Javier Hernandez, Jesus Corona, Hector Herrera, Carlos Vela, Miguel Layun, and Hirving Lozano will not be part of the team in the Gold Cup, Mexico has still looked strong during its friendlies against really good opponents like Chile and Ecuador. Under Martino Mexico has won all of its four friendlies, and scoring a minimum of three goals per game. Mexico might not have their best players available, but they are still the clear favorites to win the competition.
Group A Mexico Cuba Canada Martinique
Mexico's Easy Road To The Final
5
If the Gold Cup wasn't predictable enough to see Mexico in the final, the draw and the road to the final for Mexico has made it easier. Mexico got paired up with Canada, Cuba and Martinique. Cuba has never won a single game in Gold Cup history and Martinique is one of the worst teams ever in Gold Cup history. Canada is Mexico's biggest threat in the group stage, but even then, it shouldn't be a tough match. Mexico should finish top of its group and would only face a tough team until the semifinals with a possible matchup against Costa Rica. We could even say the real Gold Cup will start for

What Is The Transfer Window?
thing in the release clause is the fee which must be paid to compensate the current club. This protects the club from other suitors trying to lure a good player from their current club. A prime example can be the release clause that has been set for Lionel Messi. Messi, who has spent the last decade with Barcelona has set a high price to ensure he stays at the club for as long as possible. The 2019 summer transfer window has been one of the most exciting and busiest ever as teams all across the globe look to strengthen their squad. Several big-money deals have already been signed and many more will take place over the next few weeks. Some of the biggest transfer targets who have signed with a new football club include Eden Hazard, Frenkie De Jong, Christian Pulisic, and many more. Real Madrid has been one of the busiest clubs this summer signing five new players to the Bernabeu. Madrid has spent over 300 million this summer, and may not be finished in the transfer window. They have been linked with Paul Pogba, Christian Eriksen, and Fabian Ruiz. Los Blancos are

coming off a disappointing 2018/19 season were they finished third in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax in the round of 16. There are still plenty of summer transfer targets who are set to leave their respective clubs. Every football club will do their best at signing the top remaining transfer targets in order to strengthen their lineup. Some of the transfer targets who are set to leave in-
The transfer window can be one of the most stressful times as a soccer fan. Either your team is linked to every top player who will eventually sign with your dream squad or they are left without signing any of the top contributors. Many soccer fans are wondering if Eden Hazard will join Real Madrid, will Neymar leave PSG, and what will Manchester United do with Pogba? The transfer window is the period during the year in which a football club can transfer players from other playing staff into their playing staff. Every league begins their transfer window at a different time as the Premier League opened on thursday, May 16. In England there are two windows: one which spans from June through August and another in January. There are several factors which can affect the transfer window such as the release clause. The most important

Christian Pulisic will join Chelsea next season after signing him for 73 million after the Premier League transfer window opened on January 1. Pulisic will become the most expensive american player in history when he joins Chelsea.
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could be the newest addition to the rebuilding process of Los Blancos. Real Madrid's biggest rival Barcelona have been linked to both de Ligt and Griezmann. Barcelona reportedly have a verbal agreement with Neymar on a five year contact as he is set to make his return to Camp Nou after two seasons.
As the summer transfer window continues, we will expect more players to sign with the biggest football clubs all across Europe.
Christian Eriksen has reportedly been offered to Real Madrid for about 70 million. The Danish playmaker is set to leave his club after his contract expires in 2020.

Most Notable Signings Ever
made the past decade. The 22 year old Spaniard joined the club for 10 million and helped the club win multiple titles such as the FA Cup and Champions League. In Alonso's first year, he contributed the equalising goal in one of the most amazing Champions League Finals against A.C. Milan. The following years he helped Liverpool win the FA Cup and the FA community shield. Arguably one of the most popular soccer players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo has made every football club he has played for even better. Ronaldo was first signed to Manchester United in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon for 12 million at only 18 years old. In the six years he spent at the club, he won nine trophies including three premier league titles and a Champions League title. Ronaldo also won many individual titles such as the Ballon d'Or and PFA player of the year prize. Six years with the club, he later signed with Real Madrid for 80 million. In his first season with Los Blancos, he did not win any trophies

despite scoring 33 goals. Ronaldo spent nine years in the Bernabeu scoring over 300 goals for the club and winning multiple titles including three Champions League victories in a row. Ronaldo signed a four year contract with Juventus after completing a 100 million transfer.
The transfer window is one of the most exciting times for soccer fans all across Europe. Whether your favorite football club is coming off a historic season or a disappointing one, there is always room to improve. Over the last decade, there have been many signings of players who have revolutionized their respective football clubs.
As clubs begin preparing to spend money for some of the best players available, there have also been many disappointing signings that have occurred in the last decade. One of the biggest flops from the past season would have to include Fred who signed with Manchester United for 61 million from Shakhtar Donetsk. The Brazilian midfielder struggled the whole season and was unable to keep his name in the starting eleven. Many red devil fans feel like they have wasted their money on a player who did not contribute all season.
One of the most notable signings has to be Ronaldinho's 21 million move from Paris Saint-Germain to Barcelona. The attacking midfielder set the tone for the years ahead with his amazing style of play alongside rising superstar Lionel Messi. He helped Barcelona win back to back league titles and helped the team win the Champions league in 2006. After winning every major title, Ronaldinho later signed with A.C. Milan five years later for 21 million. Xabi Alonso's transfer from Real Sociedad to Liverpool turned out to be one of the best signings the reds have
23
Xabi Alonso signed with premier league team Liverpool in 2004/05 for 14 million. Alonso helped the club win the FA cup and the champions league.
Some of the most expensive transfers of all time include Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and many more. Neymar transferred from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain for a world record 198 million two seasons ago. Neymar has been linked to Barcelona this summer in a potential return to Camp Nou. Several transfers have been made during the summer and we will wait to see if Neymar will still be the most expensive player.
Ronaldo signed with Real Madrid for 80 million in 2009. He helped Madrid win the Champions League three years in a row.

Old Faces, New Places
Eden Hazard signed with Real Madrid for 113 million. He player for premier league team Chelsea for the past seven seasons.

Mats Hummels will return to Dortmund for 38 million. He left the club to play for Bayern Munich in 2016.

ORIBE PERALTA AND HIS CONTREVESIAL TRANSFER. Last week Monday oribe Peralta officially confirmed his transfer to Las Chivas De Guadalajara and immediately began to receive hate and even fanatics from the rival teams of America and Chivas threatened to kidnap his family because of the drastic change. Supporters of Las Chivas aren't on board with him being in their team because he came from the rival team. they insult him by calling him old and comparing him to their grandparents and more. others just want him to score on his old team which was America this is one of the most controversial transfers because of the rivalry between the two teams. There will always be rivalries between teams because of the passion both teams and its players have and that is what makes the teams great but it is also why if any slight mistake is made by them everyone comments or worse the situation gets out of hand.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON ORIBE PERALTA TRANSFERING TO LAS CHIVAS?
KENNITH PRECIADO: Oribe Peralta sucks. He's an America guy, Undeserving,Uncouth, Unsportsmanlike... FATIMA Q, ENRIQUEZ: my thoughts on him transferring is that it's on him and that hopefully he makes the right decision for him
26
ORIBE PERALTA FACTS.
ORIBE PERALTA IS A PROFESSIONAL MEXICAN SOCCER PLAYER THAT NOW PLAYS FOWARD IN LAS CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA WHICH HE RECENTLY TRANSFERED FROM AMERICA. BEFORE ALL THIS HE STARTED HIS CARRER PLAYING IN MORELIA THEN HE WENT AHEAD AND TRANFERD ONTO LEON AND MONTERREY. HE THEN STARTED MAKING A NAME FOR HIMSELF AND NOW HE IS A 2X TOP SCORER, 5X MXICAN CHAMPION ,3X CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNER ,1X OLYMPIC MEDALIST ,AND A 1X GOLD CUP WINNER; HE IS NOW 35 YEARS OLD AND CLOSE TO RETIREMENT WHICH IS WHY HE IS RECIEVING ALOT OF HATE BUT HE STILL THINKS HE HAS MANY MORE WINS AHEAD OF HIM.
COMMENTS LIKE THESE STARTED SURFESSING WHEN CHIVAS SUPPORTERS (CHIVISTAS) FOUND OUT THAT ORIBE PERALTA WAS OFFICALLY SIGNED ONTO LAS CHIVAS DE GUADLAJARA. THEY ARE UPSET BECAUSE HE TRANSFERED FROM A RIVAL TEAM AND ALSO BECAUSE HIS AGE. EVENTHOUGH HE IS ONLY 35 YEARS OLD.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHT ON ORIBE PERALTA TRANSFERING TO LAS CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA? Sebastian Q, Enriquez: personally i do not really care about peralta, but hes getting old and probably wont have much to offer but if he does end up doing good for the club then itll be a bitter sweet feeling for the fans if the fans love him then that is a plus for him but i wish him luck because i grew up watching mexico play and he plays good.
Q: WHY DO YOU THINK ORIBE TRANSFRERED AND WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY ABOUT IT? Fatima Enriquez: All I have to say on his transfer contreversy is that its on him and that hopefully he makes the right decision for him. i honestly don't wish him bad I actually hopehe succeeds and that the chivistas end up ovinghim and forget about his age and focus on how he plays. he might be the player that brings chivas back to its former GLORY!

COPA AMERICA BRAZIL 2019 By: Maria Esquivel

CONMEBOL
Q: WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THE COPA AMERICA TOURNAMENT?WHY? Jesus Villagas: I think Brazil will win it because they've been scoring numerous goals in their ast games plus they are one of the main title holders but i believe that it could also be Chile bevause their playing style has gotten alot better but i am hoping it is argentina because they got so close to winning last time and the only reason why theu did not win was because they missed the last penalty
Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WATCHING SOCCER GAMES ESPECILLY WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING IN A TORNAMENT? Jesus Villegas: well you get to see your interntional team play other teams to seewhat level your team is on. thats the thrillof it, you end up getting excited and at times you end up placing yourseld in their shoes. you feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins; also you are able to see the best of every team when they play against eachother, and that then symbolizes the team. In the U.S. it might not be so popular but worldwide it is! you get to see people come together from all around the world to watch and enjoy the sme sport you do and bythe end of it you also end up seeing young talent, frustrations, happiness, and also surprises. that is what i love most when watching football (soccer).

This Copa América is the 46th edition of The tournament known mostly in South America , the quadrennial international men's association football championship organized by South America's CONMEBOL. Brazil and Chile are the two-time defending champions. A total of 14 matches have been recently played in Brazil which is the host country. The teams playing are Argentina, Bolivia , Brazil (hosts) ,Chile (title holders) ,Colombia ,Ecuador , Japan (invited team) ,Paraguay, Peru ,Qatar (invited team) ,Uruguay, and Venezuela. so far these teams have put up a great fight which shows how much they want to win this tournament. unfortunally not alot of teams were prepared for the competitionand pressure that comes with these type of tounaments which is why teams have already been close to elemination and for a fact Argentina has not been playing its best lately and it is not the players that are not good it is the lack of spirit and unity which ha s been going on for a while now.
Q: WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THIS TOURNAMENT? WHY?
2019 INVITEES
If you did not know already there is two guests this year in the COPA AMERCA; those guests are quatar and japan. the reason for this is because conmebol requires invitees to create and equal worable tournament structure. generally the invitees are from North America but because the concacaf gold cup is currently being played/ toured in the United states they had to invite guests from asia and europe.
KENNITH PRECIADO: Brazil is well positioned, with both old and new players, the experience they bring is indelible to their superior maneuver of the soccer ball. Brazil is, therefore, poised to win the match against its rivals. What I enjoy is the competition and rivalry between each team. This evokes their passion for the game and puts forth their effort in the field, creating an excitement in the audience, even for me. Watching them go head to head in the matches is a riveting experience.
QUATAR
quatar had been played good but they were eliminated. after the game they played with argentina on sunday June, 23rd. it was an intense and entertaining game but Argentina still ended up taking the win and with that argentiina moved on to quarter finals. besides that quatar put up a fight the team showed courage and spirit which is what captivates fans all around. Q: WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THIS TOURNAMENT? WHY? THERE IS ONLY ABOUT FOUR MORE GAMES UNTIL WE FIND OUT WHO WILL BE TAKING THE COPA AMERICA TROPHY HOME. MANY PEOPLE WILL BE FILLED WITH SO MANY EMOTIONS FOR EXAMPLE DISSAPOINTMENT, HAPPINESS,ANGER ,EXCITMENT ,SADNESS OR A MIXTURE OF THEM ALL BUT THAT IS WHAT SOCCER MAKES PEOPLE FEEL AND PEOPLE DESCRIBE IT AS A BEAUTIFUL FEELING.
FATIMA Q, ENRIQUEZ: I think colombia or brazil will win because of their strong support on the team and previous victories. Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WATCHING SOCCER GAMES ESPECILLY WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING IN A TORNAMENT? FATIMA Q, ENRIQUEZ:I love watching soccer games cuz i love the sport and it brings communities together.
JAPAN
japan's last game was against EQUADOR on monday June, 24th it was a battle all that they were thinking was qualification and japan qualified for a possible next round. the first goal scored was from Japan by Shoya Nakajima at minuite 15 the final score of the game was 1-1 a tie but Equador did not qualify because they did not play so well yes there was loses but they have to the next COPA AMERICA.

From The editor FourThreeThree When La Cima gave me a chance to help design and fill the content of a soccer-only magazine this summer, four topics came straight to mind. Along with those four topics came three soccer-lovers also in the class in the shape of Gilberto, our resident Real Madrid supporter, Ignacio, up with the Champions League winning Reds and Maria and I, the two Barcelona supporters. The best part about the assignment was how simple it was to speak footy as a quintet. Each writer came with an idea on their mind with the four topics we felt required featuring. The Women's World Cup in France was the obvious standout with transfer rumors also playing a major role in the product. The CONCACAF Gold Cup and the CONMEBOL Copa America in Brazil are tournaments high in the competitive food-chain. None of the tournaments were finished before the launching of the magazine and the transfer window had only officially opened the day before FourThreeThree went up for its debut. From talking about the United States women's chances in Europe to spielling transfer rumors and how we think the future of the top leagues will look like. Cheers, Jesus Manriquez
