letter from the editor:

Trends are constantly shifting, as the definition implies “be currently popular,” meaning a certain time will pass and its popularity will fade. To analyze future trends, there is an extended research that has to be done in order to determine what’s coming next. There are several factors that can trigger the beginning of a new trend such as history, consumer habits, season, even current events such as political situations. Fashion and trends allow us the opportunity to show the world a glimpse of our ever-changing personalities. Unlike trends, color is always there to stay. Color evokes emotion and goes further into revealing what’s inside our souls. For every occasion, there is an appropriate color. Color influences in our mood and other’s perception about us. Through an extended research about the current state of fashion I concluded that for Autumn/Winter 18/19 neutrals will be based on minimalism due to the current customer’s desire to be more conscious about our planet. Brights will be travelling to the past and being interpreted in retro active wear and classic street wear styles, pastel tones will be incorporated in voluminous designs and details, and finally darks will be exploring a new simplified way to wear bold plush fabrics. minimal nature This trend features simplified designs that are easy to layer. Right now consumers are being more conscious, and they’re trying to have quality over quantity. This neutral palette features colors that can easily be mixed with a variety of different colors. The key items are the tapered bonded trousers, the Crombie still being inspired by retro silhouettes with a double breasted front that creates a smart look from the 1960s men tailoring, and an oversized clean white cotton shirt which can be styled in a variety of ways. For accessories this trend features the slim pouch which is a versatile item with a former fresh direction for occasion assortments and tech accessories. It’s all about the beauty of simplicity.

This story travels to the past to the past in a study about retro classic street style and sportswear. The designs consist of zip-through track tops and trucker jackets, also high-jaw roll necks all in fun and bold colors. Also, the puffer jacket which takes a direction to geometric stitching, and this trend couldn’t be complete without the track pants. For accessories I included the vanity case bag which has a box-like construction and taps into the resurgence of preppy styling and makes me picture the shape a retro speaker; for footwear strapped sneakers combined with bold colors.

COTTON CANDY The name of the theme was inspired in a cotton candy due to its array of colors and volume. This trend is all about exaggeration featuring full-balloon like sleeves reference of traditional folk dressing and costume silhouetted. For details ruffles and braids are a statement in the trend, and oversized sleeves are the most crucial characteristic of the story. The folk volume top is composed of luxurious silk, ovoid in silhouette, and has dropped shoulders that give way to balloon sleeves. Accessories feature ruffle details, and the unlined, lightweight nature of the hobo which makes it an ideal item for experimenting exaggerated proportions. Del Pozo is always a reference for exaggerated silhouettes. The colors are soft and add a sense of femininity to the trend.

a velvety dusk_ The girl that represents this trend reminds me about modern women, they always want to look put-together in an easy and trendy way. The main components of this trend are the jewel tones and fabrics. Velvet and corduroy are being recreated into more casual designs such as the bomber jacket. This item is shrunk in scale, and sleeves are relaxed. Slanted pockets are chunky and zippers are exposed to represent functionality. Also, the classic oxford bag trouser is a key item with tapered ankle nods to carrot-leg form. The fabrics also are being spotted as details to create statement sleeves, or the combination of velvet and silk lace adds a romantic yet casual mood, due to its sillohouette to the outfit. The track pant loses its instant recognition with this trend due to its ultra-wide silhouette. Velvet is also being used for more playful accessories design such as into the drawstring bucket bag. This trend is a representation of how plush fabrics can elevate a design to look luxurious instantaneously.
