Documentary Films & Movies
"Documentary" has been described as a "filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception" that is continually evolving and is without clear boundaries. Documentary films inform viewers about a topic or issue and sometimes have educational purpose. Some people believe that a ‘talking heads’ documentary is the only type of documentary films but actually it is a tiresome type of these films. Because it would be more enjoyable to read someone’s experiences than watch him say all of them in a film since people usually write much better than they speak. The art of documentary film making is the process of 'showing' and not 'telling'. For example, rather than having a person explain the definition of poverty, why not show poverty. The audience is intelligent enough to draw their own conclusions and definitions. Normally, a dramatic video is well controlled in every production stage. But for a documentary maker, she even doesn’t know what will happen next in front of her camera. She’s interested in a subject, then starts to shoot relative footages, but she may not know her point of view towards the subject yet. Most commercial documentary videos are sponsored by certain organization, government, company, or TV station. If you have an idea which some organizations may be interested in and is beneficial to the public, try to approach them, maybe you are lucky enough to get a budget. You will also find it quite attractive to produce your very own documentary movies. I’m sure you have something to say about human being, society, environment, modern culture, and so forth in your heart, don’t you?
