Fixing Your Roofing Problem Most people do not realize that they have an issue with their roof until it starts to leak. This can cost you more money because the damage has already been done. It can damage the wood inside your home, and can stain the ceiling. Most people do not even realize that their roof has a leaking problem until it shows up on the ceiling. It is a good idea to check your roofing after a storm or at the change of seasons. This way you should be able to catch the damage early. When replacing your roof there are a few things to take into consideration before starting the project. The first is to consider is what part of the United States that you live in. You do not want roofing material that will retain heat. If living in Arizona, you would want material that would reflect the heat off of your house. Some states have relations in place on what materials you can use. California for instance has a new rating and all groups have to be a minimum of Class C. Roofs in high fire danger zones, need to have a rating of at least Class B. You can get your roofing shingles and most supplies at any home/building supply store. If you decide to go with a contractor, be very careful and make sure to check any references before choosing one. If you will be doing your own roof, there are things to also take into consideration. You can get shingles to match or coordinate with the colors of your house. Asphalt roofing shingles are the most popular material used for roofs. They are easy to install, and easy material for a steep slopes, they do not expand, or contract in weather conditions. Remember, when doing your roof yourself there are safety measures to take. Do not go up on your roof if it is windy outside. Make sure that your shoes have a good tread on them as roofs can be very slippery. You can also use the gutter guard to protect your ladder and to help keep it in place. Never go up on your roof if it is raining or if your roof has snow on it. If you'll be doing your roof yourself, use common sense and safety. Do not try to cut corners when it comes to staying safe.
