Quick and Easy E74 Error Code XBox Repair
If you're getting an error message on your screen or monitor that shows:
"E74. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support."
The usual cause is when your xBox 360 is experiencing a general hardware failure.
Microsoft suggests at this point to submit a console-Xbox repair request online. However, I'll show you a faster and simpler way than that in a minute - but you may want to try the following first. 1. Turn your Xbox 360 console off and on following these steps:
Turn off your console. Disconnect all of the cables. Reconnect all the cables. Turn your console back on. 2. Now Turn your console off and on without the accessories using these steps.
Turn off your console. Disconnect any accessories you may have connected. Such as , xBox 360 controllers, all memory units and the xBox 360 hard drive. Once the accessories have been disconnected - restart the console. This will show if it's the console or an accessories that's experiencing the problem.
If the previous steps have resolved the problem - great. That was simple and you're now back to gaming on your xBox 360. However, if you're still experiencing the E74 system error then your console may need an Xbox repair. If you chose to use Microsoft's repair service then you'll need to begin the 4 to 6 week process online. If you're still under warrantee then all you'll pay will be the shipping and packaging charges. If you're not under warrantee - then Microsoft will usually charge you $140 plus shipping for your Xbox Repair. I've found that most people from 12 years old and up can easily and permanently repair their own Xbox 360 in under 1 hour. Even if you've never had your Xbox 360 apart before!

A couple tools that everyone has at home. A few items that you can get at the local Hardware store for under $8.00 And, a good quality repair guide that can be downloaded online for instant access.
That's all that is required to have you back to gaming in the next 1 - 2 hours. But, DO NOT fall for the scams and gimmick repairs that are so prevalent on the Internet. They can permanently damage your Xbox 360.
