Williamsport Area High School Girl Scout earns prestigious Gold Award for addressing stress and anxiety

HARRISBURG — Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania is honored to announce Abagail Loudenslager from Lycoming County has earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award, for the 2025 Gold Award class.

Loudenslager’s project, “Yellow to Mellow” addressed stress in the school environment. She partnered with her school to create a flower garden rest area for students to relax and unwind. Her project will be sustained as the flowers are perennials and will return each year.

Loudenslager devoted a minimum of 80 hours to problem-solve, plan, and implement her ideas for change. The impact of her Gold Award project will be felt long into the future, and Loudenslager has shown the next generation of girls what they are capable of accomplishing.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, available to girls in high school who create sustainable change for a community or world issue. Gold Award Girl Scouts address pressing issues in their communities and create sustainable change to make the world a better place.

The Gold Award process not only enables girls to help their communities, but also provides tangible benefits as they grow as individuals. By going Gold, girls build professional skills, earn scholarships, build their network, and for those interested in serving their country, are able to enlist at a higher pay grade when they join the military.

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave

Preliminary 2025-26 hunting seasons approved

approval to the 2025-26 hunting and trapping seasons and bag limits.

TRANSMISSION SERVICES

The preliminary seasons and bag limits are nearly identical to those in place for 202425. One modification proposed for the 2025-26 seasons is:

SHULER FOOT CARE CENTER

For snowshoe hares, a season limit of three hares per hunter is proposed. Presently, a hunter reaching the one-hare daily limit could harvest as many as six hares in a season. This reduction in maximum possible harvest per hunter would protect against overharvest in isolated segments of the hare population.

The public may offer comments on all proposed 2025-26 seasons and bag limits, as well as other board actions, between now and the board’s April meeting, when 2025-26 seasons and bag limits will be finalized, and antlerless deer license allocations will be presented. The board is scheduled to meet April 11 and 12 at the Game Commission’s Harrisburg headquarters.

There are many ways in which we can fall into negative patterns of thought or behavior. We all make mistakes, but when we do, we should try to look at them as learning opportunities. We all occasionally say or do thoughtless things that hurt our friends or families, but when we do, we should consider it an opportunity to ask for forgiveness, and our relationship might be deepened thereby. We should all pay closer attention to what we say and do throughout the day. How much of it is knee jerk negativity? And, not just what we say to others, but how much of our internal dialogue is filled with negativity? How often do we berate ourselves for minor mistakes or omissions? We should try to be more like the coach who builds up her athletes with a pep talk or the teacher who convinces his students that they can work out a difficult problem. The important question for the track athlete is not whether you won the race but whether you did your best. Studies show that there are very few times when negativity helps us; it is almost always better to be an optimist than a pessimist. So, do what you can to throw the negativity overboard and to have a more positive attitude. Life is good and

Williamsport

Symphony Orchestra to present

‘Marvels of Majesty’ on Feb. 11

WILLIAMSPORT — The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Gerardo Edelstein, is excited to present Marvels of Majesty on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Arts Center. This stunning concert will feature the dazzling Piano Concerto in G major by Maurice Ravel, with celebrated pianist Byeol Kim, and Anton Bruckner’s majestic Symphony No. 7 in E Major. A special highlight of the evening will be the rare use of Wagner tubas, a unique brass instrument designed by Richard Wagner, adding a distinctive richness to Bruckner’s symphony.

SPAGHETTI SUPPER

About Byeol Kim, Pianist

Steinway Artist Byeol Kim has earned critical acclaim for her “ingeniously colorful imagination” (Agata Nowakowska) and her “hushed performances as an operatic singer on the piano” (Cleveland Classical). A top prizewinner in the Cleveland, Paderewski, Dallas, and Washington International Piano Competitions, Kim has performed at world-renowned venues including Carnegie Hall and Koerner Hall. She has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra and the West Virginia Symphony and has worked with esteemed ensembles like the Escher String Quartet. Kim is a passionate educator, currently serving as Assistant Professor of Music at Rollins College, and a winner of the 2019 Astral National Auditions. Her innovative approach to classical music includes multimedia concert experiences and social advocacy projects, making her one of today’s most exciting and multifaceted artists.

The Wagner Tubas

A rare and unique feature of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 is the inclusion of the Wagner tubas, a special type of brass instrument invented by composer Richard Wagner. These instruments were designed specifically for Wagner’s operas to blend the sound of the French horn with the timbre of the tuba. Their distinct sound is deep, resonant, and full of mystery, offering a rare sonic texture that adds an extraordinary dimension to Bruckner’s symphonic masterpiece.
