2014 Latino Festival:

The good, the bad and the ugly El Sol de Ohio Redacción Central

THE GOOD: 1. The joy of the Latinos 2. The quality of the singers 3. The exquisite flavors of the food 4. The beauty of the Latino Art 5. The beauty of the park 6. The supporting companies and individuals of the festival 7. Being able to enjoy a free festival with great singers and ambient. THE BAD: 1 The Latin culture is very rich in diversity. Can not be the same each year. Latinos are much more than an explosion of music, dance and food. 2 Having a VIP section at a festival is absurd, the beauty of a festival is that it unites people from all classes. The VIP area should be replaced by two or three rest areas for whomever would like to use them.

3 The festival should not be managed like a business. The people should be able to buy food and culture items at a reasonable price, as cheaply as possible. Those who organized the event should not be asking for such high fees from the vendors, there must be an agreement to lower fees for the vendors in order to lower the prices for the consumers. 4 This year the area off the stage was a disastrous. People improvised seats due to there not being bleachers or proper seating of sort, and under the discomfort of the intense sun. Also, some people could not see the concerts due to there not being shade to protect their eyes from the intensity of the sunlight. 5 The park is beautiful but it had a limited amount of

space for the vast number of Latinos and non-Latinos who could have attended the event. The size of the site should resemble that of the Ohio State Fair site or fairgrounds. 6 The event must have professional entertainers, and if possible, famous names or those of vast popularity in the Hispanic community of Ohio or the USA. 7 Management of the mass media should be handled by specialists. There must be someone in charge of media relations who knows how to handle interactions between areas. This includes the proper facilities and equipment needed to run the even as efficiently as possible. 8. There should be more recreational spaces and more areas of involvement for the children at

the festival. Their recreation can’t just be limited to the water fountains. THE UGLY: The festival should show a renewed and refreshed image annually. It can’t be that every year you have an announcer named Ramona Reyes. People don’t know who the lady is nor care about who she is. Whether it’s to introduce the Mayor or thank the main sponsors, that’s a job for the announcer. The stage for the festival cannot be used to present politicians or for presentations by politicians, that is just downright bias subliminal manipulation of the public; and that’s ugly, very ugly.
